How hard is it to be a UH-1 pilot
so hard
How come the pilot does not have a door? Why did he take it off?
juraink McMarly I don't know, but that's the co-pilot. In helicopters, the pilot sits on the right.
Yeah, that wasnt really my point, pilot is shorter to write, i was just asking about the doors.
hitssquad No, not all the time. The pilot is the most senior of the two, also known as the Helicopter Aircraft Commander (HAC), and can choose to sit on either the left or right side and a lot of the time I see them sit on the left especially in my T/M/S (CH-53E). However, from a maintenance standpoint we refer to the right side as pilot and the left side as co-pilot to keep it standardized.
The doors aren't necessary for most missions and add weight. No doors equals more ammunition and better aircraft performance/maneuverability.
