I dont care what anyone says, animals have feelings and heart.
I am with you!!!
@@13juju in the words of Radar O’Reilly on MASH…”Animals are people too”!
Gut wrenching! Very sorry Dusty
They absolutely do.
You are damn right they have feelings, they have intelligence that overtakes their instinct where their feeling are involved.
Seeing Belle Starr laying down beside her calf was heartbreaking. 💔
That said, it was remarkable how she allowed you to get as close as you did; that’s a lot of trust.
YES...sad with You and Belle Starr...sweet Joe checking on her ... ah!
I felt like Belle Starr knew you were trying to help her calf which allowed you to get so close to her. It is apart of life, humans or animals. Sorry for your loss Dusty.
So sad but that’s nature. I’m sorry for your loss. How will the red dog be managed now?
Peaches having a calf - cliffhanger, nooooo 😱%. Cannot wait 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🐨🦘👋🏻
Exactly...it was as if she knew Dusty was hoping he could help her baby. Brings tears to one's eyes.
They trust Dusty he's a damn good Rancher
As a fellow rancher it’s hard losing even one calf. I think the hardest part is watching the mama being so heartbroken. You run a good operation and you presented this part of the operation in a very compassionate way. Thank you.
But you know you will send them all to slaughter, anyway!
@@lucykelly7152And your point??
@@mia.primaveralet me guess your one of those that lives on salad and sprouts . Well hate to inform you but your vegetarian diet kills more living insect an animals then we do when we raise cattle . Every time that plow turns it’s killing every ant frog fly mesquito rabbit you name it . Then that food gets sprayed with chemicals to keep them from eating it so don’t criticize our way of life . We’re the reason your alive . The store don’t produce your food we do !
Is that true?
@@doreenmercado50 yes mam that is the gods truth !
It was surprising to see how Belle Star allowed you to handle the calf. She looked like she was hoping you could fix it.
I thought the same thing
Sorry abt the calf you are allowed to be sad 😂
I also kinda felt that she was watching him hope he could get him up. Poor thing!
Yes, it was as if she saying, " Please help my baby!: 😢😢
All ranchers are very kind, good-hearted people. Sorry for your loss of the calf.
You know all ranchers?
@stacymirba1433 right. Not all are kind hearted some get neglected. I've seened those animal PC show where they arrest the owners.
💯💯💯💯💯
I know what is like ukufekwa yinja
You seem like an honest, hard working, and compassionate person. Looks like your animals couldn't be in better hands brother.
I admire your honesty Dusty. It wasn't a "great video" as one might say but it's one that needs to be shown to keep your channel in the real world and as you said it includes the good, the bad and the ugly times.
Well said, Andrew.
You are a good and compassionate rancher. It’s hard to loose one. I feel bad for Bell
Kind and compassionate ranchers? These animals end up in the slaughter house. There is nothing kind or compassionate that these people are doing!
It’s heartbreaking to see how an animal bison has the feelings of birth to its calf and mourning the death of her calf. So sad. And to see her watching you try to save her calf without even trying to go after you she knew what you were trying to help. That’s how much trust she has and you.
❤
I have to whole hearted agree...Momma's need time to morn. Thank you for giving her those moments. So sorry momma Bellstar 😢 and so excited for peaches at the end...what a rollercoaster of emmotions. ❤
Dear Mr. Baker: this video is the first I've watched from your channel. Yes, you made the right decision to show one of the sad sides to ranching. I hope Peaches delivered her calf safely and that she and the calf are healthy and well. But mostly: I want to salute your caring attitude and empathy toward the animals in your care. You're good people.
The Good Lord knows who will be a blessing to the animals He trusts to your care. The compassion and respect you have shown in this tragic situation show years of experience and heart you have for your herd. They will flourish under your care and I appreciate your example to other ranchers. Continue on with your herd and plans to increase your productivity. It's so obvious their health is a priority and you will both reap the rewards! Your herd for healthy lives with good pasture management from you, You from watching your dream prosper and multiply under your care. Blessings to you for sharing the reality of a ranchers life many folks aren't aware of and your family for sharing your dream and being able to grow up with a ranching heritage.
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly 💯. I've seen it first hand. Some people don't know what they are saying. Animals have souls and can feel like we can. 🥺
I agree with your comment 100%.
@@brinleythesiberian only in your weak fool mindedness way of thinking
creepy
I thought she was big then BIG Joe comes in and made her look small.
It shows they have a huge heart and care for each other just like we do.
As Belle's baby boy is born, but 'doa' at birth, yet another baby is born by Peaches nearby, to take its place. I would have been a nice conclusion, to see the ending of this sad 😔, along with probably a happy story! 😊
Bless the momma's heart. She did her best to save her baby, & is lovingly mourning her baby.
What an amazing momma.
💔
We're so terribly sorry for your loss. Even though it's part of farm life and ranching, it's never easy. It happens with horses too, it's always sad when it does. You're a great rancher, don't let this shake your confidence. Sending love and best wishes from Memphis.
It will always hurt when one of your cows or bisons has a dead calf.
Yeah it'd be so much better for them to be slaughtered by humans
@lilitharam44, also from Memphis yes, I respect Dusty for his empathy and stewardship for these wonderful majestic animals
@@sarahgriffith8790 Do they still have a herd out at Shelby Farms? The last I read the bison there weren't being taken care of properly. I hope they are now. Dusty is an awesome rancher. I would love to have a small herd of bison, just for the fiber production. Bison wool is one of the absolute bests!
@@lilitharam44 I haven't been to Shelby Farms in quite a while, I'm actually gonna have to go and check it out, I'm also thinking there may be some bison at the AgriCenter International if I'm not mistaken as well
I know I'm supposed to be sad about the sweet baby but I'm just too busy being in awe of how much mom trusts you. To be able to build that kind of mutual understanding when you have the number of bison you do is just amazing.
😂❤
Animals know. My dad could walk up to any cow or horse and there was a bond. Drafts knew time to go to work. Cows followed to the milking shed. Metal need of each other. Dad brought round a green horn to help one summer and every animal on the place didn’t trust him even the dog and cat. They know! I was 3 years old going out to the field to get the draft horse team in. They wore short strap leads that barely touched the ground. I would holler their names and take there leads. 3 year old leading 4,000. Thousands Pounds drafter team to the tack barn to get in a days plowing. Animals just know!
It was definitely heartbreaking! She tried to rouse her little one, even letting you get as close as you did. We are blessed to see the good. Seeing the bad isn't always pleasant, but it is the reality of life in the herd! Thank you Dusty for sharing both with us!
We see your compassion for the animals . Everyone should know what ranchers have to deal with . Very respectful video .
Sorry but herding cows in captivity or any animals only for profits is not way of shape or form of compassion.
Fun fact; I’m 61 born and raised in Okla. My paternal Grandfather and great Uncle owned the Hadden Ranches 10,000 acre w/many head Bison back in the day that is now referred to as the Osage Nation Ranch. So happy I found your channel!!!
That’s awesome! Jealous of the amount of land. I would bring them back!
Belle Star is a great mommy. It is so sad to see her grieving the loss of her baby.
She trusted you Dusty to check on her baby That speak volumes.. You are doing your best with these animals.. and that was proof right there by her allowing you to be close to her baby.. It's hard losing an animal but you're right it's part of farm life❤
So sorry for her loss...praying Peaches and her calf are doing well Jesus name!!!
You think it was a loss to him!? he started to tell a damn joke and left a mother dragging her placenta behind her in the dirt with the baby still stuck inside obviously dieing, and went home and took a fucking break, providing no care not calling a vet.... Seriously wake up and think a little bit on your own people, Good God!
@@chorynerenque9564???
Belle Star is an awesome momma. She tried her best to take care of her baby. They have feelings just like us.
no they do not have feeling just like us, not even remotely close.
Better momma than the humans who want to abort their babies.
They have more than some people.
@@AsTheWheelsTurnthat's your opinion
@@AsTheWheelsTurnGoes to show you apparently have less feelings than animals. Yes, animals have feelings. Read up on it.
Sorry for your loss. Births are always risky for all mammals. The loss of the baby is all part of ranch life. Thoughts and prayers.
Dusty, you and your family are doing a great job.
WOW, how exciting to get to see plol Peaches have a calf.
What a beautiful soul you are caring so much about your bison. It’s such a sad situation but I’m so impressed with your empathy for your animals 👏👏👏
First critter I ever raised that I lost was a chick from an incubator. I tried everything I could think of. It still didn't pull through. I felt really stupid for being so upset over a chicken... until someone told me that a sure sign of a good steward of any animal is having a heart and respect for all life.
Praying for your walk as ranchers and for comfort over you and your herd. ❤
All i can say is Amen.
Lost a few just recently, crazy how I feel more empathy for animals than I do for most people
Sir, you are not stupid for feeling sad about that- it shows you have a heart.❤
I remember the first lamb i lost i was devastated
We have felt the same exact way over almost all of our lost chicks. But some hatch, and you know they're not going to make it no matter what you do. It's the ones that you bring in the house, and try to feed with the droppers, and they start making a slight recovery, and you think you have helped them to turn that corner..... then suddenly, they are gone. It just kills you! 😢
No matter how detached you may think you want to be, when this happens, it still hits hard and as was clearly demonstrated, its hard for the cows too. Prayers from across the puddle.
Thank you!
So sad…We’ve all developed a love for these beautiful animals…
I’ve been watching you guys for almost 3 years now and I came over from Daniel’s channel Arm's family homestead and I was just wondering how old your daughter Brooks is and Bell star is a wonderful mom so sorry for the loss of your red dog
Dusty I’ve been here from the beginning with ya and I love the Bison, and I especially love that we are included in on everything the good and the bad so I’m not going anywhere buddy. You’re raising one of my favorite animals ever I support you 100% and it actually hurt me watching you try to save the red dog 💔 you are a good man Dusty God Bless ❤🦬 ❤🦬
My condolences to the Bison mom and your family it is heartfelt. Thank you for sharing this video. ❤️🙏🕊
Definitely heartbreaking to see her lay down beside her baby wondering why he won't get up. Brought tears to my eyes for sure and I've been farming my whole life so I've been and seen a lot and these situations are never easy
It never is! 🦬
Poor Belle clearly mourning her loss. Thank you for sharing.
Death is part of life. Thank you for sharing reality.
Poor Mama Belle
I am a total animal lover ! Thanks for sharing this video with us. I'm so sorry for the calf's passing at birth. You're right...this is life. God bless you and your heart for the Bison.
So sorry for Belle's loss and yours.... You cannot be a rancher without a big heart ❤️
Condolences to you and “mom”. She stepped back enough to let you touch her baby and she waited there; hoping you could do something. Humans just need to see this; to help them understand all animals are "human." And ALL animals should be given the same love and respect that you give your Bison. I’m sorry Dusty. My tears are with you and “Mom”.
My heart breaks for this. What a beautiful bond. Poor Momma just hoping her baby would get up. Animals are amazing in how raw and beautiful they are. Nothing fake, staged or otherwise. So sorry you lost one. Never easy.
I’m really sorry you lost the calf. I hope peaches did ok and her calf was healthy. I wanna wish you a Happy Father’s Day nonetheless ❤️🙏
Sorry you lost a calf. It's tough for you and the mother. It was absolutely amazing the way she trusted and interacted with you when you tried to help. You have an amazing relationship with these animals. We were privileged to get to watch this whole ordeal even though it wasn't a good outcome. Yes - you SHOULD let your viewers see the good, the bad AND the ugly. What a fantastic video.
I'm glad you showed this. This is the reality of raising animals.
This is very sad, but an amazing demonstration of the love and compassion these animals have for their offspring.
Poor Belle Star ! I'm sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose an animal. But then you turn around and Peaches has a calf. Talk about circle of life. ❤
Awe I can feel her pain. It made me cry. It's all about life cycles and what every living being goes through. Sending her loves.
So heartbreaking to see the momma lay beside the red dog and mourn her loss. Very real, poor momma. Thoughts and prayers for all of you.!
Seeing Belle Starr care for and lying down beside her calf was so sad and we know sometimes it happens when raising animals but still hard when you have such a bond with the animals. Her allowing you to try and help and get so close was amazing. ❤
We can see that you are trying to keep it together, yourself, at the loss of this baby. You are a good man and a great farmer that has compassion for all of your animals. May God bless you and your family, and all the animals in your care.
These are actually very good teaching moments for future farmers and ranchers. It’s so very important to talk about and teach. Also shows how much love and feeling animals have toward one another and their offspring or children per say. Was very sad to see momma with her baby lying on it to protect it from others and to just mourn in her way. Glad u did the video.
She was such a good mama letting you work on her baby. She never showed any signs of aggression- only concern.
She stood there watching and hoping her baby would get up.
If someone says they don’t have feelings they are a complete idiot who know nothing about animals . Animals are no different then humans they have souls, they feel sadness, pain, happiness etc if not they would sit there and do nothing almost brain dead .

Mam, she was getting pretty agitated when he started putting hands on the corpse.
Belle Star will have another. Be thankful she was able to deliver. If it was stuck you could have lost her. Thanks for showing us all of ranching. It’s very important to see it all even the loss.
So very sorry for your bison having to go through such a horrible ordeal. My heart goes out to her losing her baby and for your family’s loss. She seemed to know you were there to help her!
I am so sorry Dusty, my heart breaks for Belle Star. Death is a part of ranching but this poor guy not even getting a chance to live is the roughest. I shed tears 😭
Belle Star's trust reflects how well you care for your animals. Still-births happen - human, cat, dog, bovine, it just happens. And, thank you Peaches for letting the video end on a high note!
I was raised on a farm and seen happiness and sadness as well, yes animals grieve as well as the farmer, I would cry for days when we lost one of our herds, thank you for all you do for our beloved bison, stay safe
This was indeed a hard video to watch. However, I am thankful to have had the opportunity to click and sit through the heartbreak! Every huff and grunt was heard and felt. It's very hard to watch the momma trying to get her calf awake and to move. I appreciate that you are always showing the real life of being a rancher. That's what makes me keep watching.
Hope you have a good Father's Day

Why do they care unless it's money? They're going to kill it.
Thank you for sharing the good, bad and ugly. I appreciate your openness. And with that cliffhanger of a closing you have us all checking our UA-cam feed repeatedly. Can’t wait for the next video.
Aww, I'm so sorry she lost her baby 😓

Dusty I watched a video a few years ago and I think it was in a national park and one of the older bison from the herd had passed away and the rest of the herd gathered around the dead animal and stood watch over the body, heads down as if they were praying....it was very touching. I believe animals have feeling just like humans and you can tell she is grieving....so sorry for your loss....♥️🙏
I am so sorry for the loss and the Belle Star sadness. Excited to see the Peaches calving! Stay with her, Dusty.
She knew you were only trying to help. They show the love you give them. Bless your 💜😊
Belle Star is such an awesome mom, she stayed with her newborn calf hoping it would wake up and start walking, it's very heartbreaking to know that animals know when they lose a loved one, sometimes they go into depression and stop eating and they also end up dying because of their depression,
May God bless you Dusty and all your animals that are truly family to you

It's never easy when death enters the picture. When it is an animal you care deeply about and doing your best to bring awareness to the species, it is very emotionally painful and sad. Dusty, you and your family, have the prayers and support from the thousands of your channel followers. I think we feel your pain also because you have brought us to care for these awesome animals, America's bison, as much as you do. I, as one, have a better understanding and appreciation and love of the American bison because of you and your family allowing me/us to be a part of the good and the bad. THANK YOU. prayers and condolences at the loss of a precious red dog.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Very sad and so sorry for your loss. You run a good operation and your a very caring and compassionate human. We can only hope other farmers care for their livestock as much as you do!
I feel you did the right thing playing this video, it is part of life. I bred dogs for 30 years, and had to experience this too. It's hard at the time, and Nature can be cruel. Hopefully all the other mamas will have strong healthy calves.
Such sad news for CTB and Belle Star. I am sorry for your loss. Thank you so much for sharing this heartbreaking 💔 news.

Wow that’s so true 🥺. I never thought of it that way.
Many years ago, when my daughter was 4 or 5yo, one of the calves died and the Mama was upset. My daughter looked at me and said, "it's the circle of life, Mom. Its okay." Wisdom at age 4. Love that kid. Thanks for sharing the "entire" experience with us.😃😃🥰

Seeing her lay down beside her baby was so sad but also poignant. As hard as it is to see the death of a newly born calf it speaks to the fierce love these momma's have for their babies. It's beautifully sad...if that makes any sense. I've worked in healthcare for eons and you do learn to kind of shut it off but this is also a testament to the love farmers and ranchers have for their livestock. I'm glad you shared this side of the story with us all Dusty. God bless you and all who follow the noble trade and art of caring for animals.
