He had a very thin/airy but beautiful high voice (like Dimash used here) and his face expression ( he looked much. much younger than he was) reflected the pain of not being home for a long time (some years!!). All, who were present were silent and reverent. I grew up in the former GDR and my parents were friends with some soldiers (ranks from a sergeant up to a colonel) who were stationed nearby. Some memories come back, because of that.

He was actually raised by his grandparents, it’s a Kazakh tradition for them to raise him, he considers his grandma his mother too. I strongly urge you to check out "Dimash sings with parents." There are several versions but they are all similar and so exquisitely tender and loving. When you see him with his parents, you are able to understand so very much about how he came to be the wonderful person he is. Just put those words in UA-cam "search"--"Dimash sings with parents." And you'll see that he got the voice and the love of music from both sides. Actually, his grandmother raised him (as is the custom with the eldest child, in their country) and from the time he was 5 she got up early and walked him to his Music Academy every day, even though her legs hurt a lot. In the video of him singing with his parents, he will go over to the audience and acknowledge his grandparents who are sitting there, watching and kind of weeping with joy. Everything they did for him, he returned with deep gratitude and appreciation.

This is a Ukrainian song. His mother was a famous opera singer in Kazakhstan in her own right,and had as much to do as anyone with his career. When he was a small child he would run onto the stage when she was taking bows and would bow with her. I think applause is Dimash's crack that way. His dad also sang some pop backin the day. I strongly urge you to check out "Dimash sings with parents." There are several versions but they are all similar and so exquisitely tender and loving. When you see him with his parents, you are able to understand so very much about how he came to be the wonderful person he is. Just put those words in UA-cam "search"--"Dimash sings with parents." And you'll see that he got the voice and the love of music from both sides. Actually, his grandmother raised him (as is the custom with the eldest child, in their country) and from the time he was 5 she got up early and walked him to his Music Academy every day, even though her legs hurt a lot. In the video of him singing with his parents, he will go over to the audience and acknowledge his grandparents who are sitting there, watching and kind of weeping with joy. Everything they did for him, he returned with deep gratitude and appreciation.

Absolutely loving all your reactions xxx That is a Ukranian folk song that he learnt less than 2 days before his concert in Kyiv; and is one of his Mom's favourite songs and sung in honour of her and Mother's day back in March 2020 (one of the last organised gatherings due to Covid pandemic) Was so blessed to be at this concert and there are no words to describe that experience! This is a Ukrainian song. His mother was a famous opera singer in Kazakhstan in her own right,and had as much to do as anyone with his career. When he was a small child he would run onto the stage when she was taking bows and would bow with her. I think applause is Dimash's crack that way. His dad also sang some pop backin the day. It was Dimash's concert in Ukraine (right before the pandemic) and notice how Ukrainians love and know their folk art well, how beautifully and harmoniously they sing their folk songs with good confidence in their voice, with what pride and respect for their loved ones and relatives the Ukrainian people applies if you carefully listen to the singing of the audience! I love this song so much... What adds to the effect is he's being so sleepy after preparing this very song over night to make his mum feel special on Mother Day. And then whole crowd singing for his mum and her tears...

There's another mv of this performance but in the beginning he introduces his mum and dad to everyone then his Dad goes back behind stage. As you said, it's a very emotional Ukranian folk song which he only learnt in Ukrainian the night before as a surprise gift to the audience. This performance and dedicated to his mum.
