    This QB class shows how much development at the NFL level matters more than simple prospect talent / rankings.
    Trevor Lawrence - Urban Meyer situation in his first season
    Zach Wilson - Jets (need I say more?)
    Trey Lance - Overshadowed by Brock Purdy, and essentially forgotten about and subsequently traded to the Cowboys, where he’s still the 3rd string QB.
    Justin Fields - Matt Nagy & overall Bears development has sucked for him, probably the 2nd best QB at the end of their careers.
    Mac Jones - Belicheck is not a good developer of QBs, and has obviously regressed.

      Trey Lance was mostly due to injury I think. Iirc he got the starting Job 2021 -> Got injured instantly (Concussion?) missed two games, played two games got injured again and then it was Jimmys job. 2022 he then got back the starting job in preseason only to get injured again after two games and then Jimmy and Purdy came in.

Or not get him a real #1 receiver and instead let his best one walk out in free agency? Or let his O-Line get progressively worse as years pass? To have Matt Patricia as offensive coordinator in his second year and be benched a number of times Belicheck has destroyed his confidence and honestly he’ll probably be better off at another team as a backup. @LarryDaGamerGuy 6 місяців тому +4

      @@herbgottidadon well it depends. if a team is notorious for being a shitty team no matter the QB, at what point do you start looking at the management of the team? In the last decade, the Jets have only had a .500+ record twice with 6 different starting quarterbacks. Are all 6 of those QB's solely at fault? I would say no. A team example of a QB at fault would be the Texans. Last year they had 3 wins. With a new quarterback and very few roster changes offensively, the team is already at more wins than they were last year.
      I wouldn't say that the '21 draft class was screwed entirely by management though anyway. Mac has gotten worse as a player overall despite his OK weapons (though Billy B hasn't really done much to help him out); Lance had some injuries that held him back and when Purdy stepped up and played better, Lance got overshadowed and eventually traded as the 49ers are contending and need a QB now rather than later; and Lawrence is really the only true exception as the Jags hired Douggie P right after his first season and both took their 3-14 team to 9-8 and a playoff win (despite mid QB play).

      @JJ-zr6fu 6 місяців тому

      Explain Jordan love. I think if a qb can play he’ll show it. In reality I think there’s very few qbs that would’ve done better if they went to a different team. This new narrative of bad spot is made up by draft media to cover up their bad evaluations.

    • @LarryDaGamerGuy
      @LarryDaGamerGuy 6 місяців тому +3

      @@JJ-zr6fu Jordan Love was put into the same situation that Aaron Rodgers wanted out of. No solid WR1s, mid RBs with no offensive line to help them or Love, bad offensive play-calling with only the defence keeping them in games. I don't even think Love has been that bad. This is technically his rookie season with no major pieces to keep them in games. By no means is the team bad, they just aren't good enough right now and the media hyping them up in the preseason didn't help them.

  • @KDub2234
    @KDub2234 6 місяців тому +32

    What happen was most of those QBs(Wilson, Fields, Lance) were drafted because of their potential. Everyone is or was trying to get the next Mahomes or Josh Allen. But teams are forgetting these QBs with huge potential need to be developed right. Mahomes had Andy Reid who's a great QB guru(McNabb,Vick, an Alex Smith) and only played 1 game his rookie year. It took Allen 2 years to reach his potential and it was thanks to Buffalo building a great system around him to succeed including trading for Stefan Diggs. The Jets and Bears historically can't develop Qbs so Wilson and Fields were in a bad situation from the start. Trey Lance struggled because Shanahan's scheme is too complicated for certain QBs. And Mac Jones showed how bad the Patriots are at drafting talent around the QB.

    You might say its hindsight but I always thought 2021 QB draft class was nothing but a phantom.
    2020 College football had one of the worst defenses I've seen. I think COVID hit defense harder than offense and there were too many broken-coverage-wide-open-TDs, even in college football standard.
    And plus, with reduced games, QBs really didn't have too many "bad games" to pick apart. They looked great on paper.
    Add two together, and we got multiple QBs with huge stats and highlight reels, and not many bad films to complain, and with so many teams with needs at QB, they all gambled, and I guess they all paid for them.

      Been trying to think of what teams would be best. Since the Pats & Giants are likely gonna finish low enough to draft a prospect, I'm thinking the Titans & Vrabel might be a place he can succeed. Cripes, the Browns _and_ Bengals may need new starting QBs.
      The Saints & Falcons would be more of the same, coaches with too many Preconceived Notions about what a QB "should be" & not how to best use the ones they have. The Jets would be an amazing fit but they won't deal for a QB if Rodgers is coming back. Same with Geno Smith & the Seahawks although that fit seems *ideal!*
      Raiders? I'd hate to see him get stuck on that team. Jets & Seahawks would be where he could succeed _now._ But they have little or no need to get him.

      @@fireye0889 Watch his highlight reels. UA-cam has plenty. He's *excellent* at throwing TD passes into tight windows. WAY above average. (You won't find stuff like that on Tom Brady's highlights, that's for damned sure).
      For Some Unknown Reason he simply started staring at open receivers last season. A _LOT!_ If I'm not mistaken, that's a New Feature of his.
      So if he's doing it intentionally or semi-so, to indicate he dislikes the play called or is trying to wait for a better pass to open up, it's stupid of him to do so. If he's concussed, then the coaches should have responded to this WAY before now.
      I honestly don't know what's going on with him. To me, I think that yeah, the coaching staff had it in for him & Fields doesn't know *what **_players_* also might. The fact that he developed a close friendship only with some guy they acquired in the off-season implies he hasn't gotten close with anyone already there.
      Even if they don't outright say so, coaches who dislike their QB communicate this to the team. *They **_see_* the differences in how they're treated. & what's a player to do? Side against the people paying their salary?

    I am a firm believer in QBs being given time to develop etc. However I think we are overdoing it slightly in the comments.
    -Zach Wilson has had an F situation with Jets no questions asked but he also just doesnt have full understanding of how to respond to pressure while still going through reads properly.
    -Mac Jones had a fine enough cast around him year 1, arguably the best of the bunch since Trey didnt play, but he has a lot of the same exact problems Zach has as a player. Neither guy is very good. At best they are average middle of the pack QBs when surrounded by a perfect situation.
    -Trey had worst luck of group by far. Injuries derailed him and during that time a rare good day 3 QB emerged and took his job.
    -Fields was literally never more than a project QB who cant read defenses but his coaches have refused to put him in an offense tailored for him. He is the guy I think has been held back by coaches the most as you can do a lot with a guy with Fields talents, despite his limitations.
    -TLAW just isnt a difference maker despite his physical talents. He needs better blocking but I dont see why anyone would think at this point Urban Meyer has anything to do with his game....Urban wasnt playing on the field then and def is not now lol

      You are showing your ignorance. Lance Played his entire 2019 season and one game in 2020 before the football program shutdown due to Covid.
      The Niners drafted Lance in 2021 because Garoppolo is always injured. Garoppolo was QB1 in 2021 and Lance as the backup was to learn the playbooks. However, to get Lance more playing times, Shanahan used Lance like how the Saints were using Taysom Hill. We saw glimpses of Lance skills, but due to his pointing finger injury in his rookie preseason that seem to affect his throwing motions and his passes. Lance sustained a sprained ankle starting for injured Garoppolo vs AZ and loss that game but not by much. He then start another game because Garoppolo again is injured and kept the Niners playoff hope alive by beating the Texans.
      What went wrong with Lance is the previous QB coach didn’t develop him, because Garoppolo didn’t improve as a QB either. Had Lance went outside to develop his skills with Mahomes throwing coach a year early, things might be different.
      In 2022, the Niners got Brian Griese as the QB coach and who also pushed for in getting Purdy drafted. Griese did say he saw an improvement in Lance this past OTA vs last year.

    What happened to Mac Jones is criminal. Dude looked like the best QB from the Class in his rookie season, but due to the circumstances everyone is aware of right now, he’s fallen big time. Sucks to see.

    The issue with Mac is coaching.

      His poor decision making and play is the issue. Have you watched any of the games lately?

      @@jasonlejuan975 with the cluster around him. Even good veterans would be making bad decisions. Dudes been given a bad offense. And horrific coaching. When he had a good OC he played very well. I think if you get this kid in a good and stable system. You will get a solid QB. Not top five or anything. But a solid dependable QB.

    1. The thing with Zach Wilson is .. he has to be mobile and in that role, he has to be accurate throwing while on the run. He is unsuccessful "off schedule". That's pretty much it. That is a guy who's ceiling SHOULD be mobile Taylor Heinicke. He isn't.
    2. Mac Jones finished 2nd for ROTY .. 10 TD 10 INT isn't good - but he lost OC Josh McDaniels - and that dude NEVER should've left New England. I think jury is still out, tbh
    3. Lawrence had Head coach Urban Meyer .. that being said , I agree . I just think he needs better accuracy in the red zone and I think he'll turn the corner SOME HOW. I kind of think he gets over the hump next year.
    4. Trey Lance should've gone back to school. 3 first round picks were ridiculous and the Niners LUCKED the hell out with Mr Irrelevant Brock Purdy.
    5. Justin Fields - the jury is still out, but he has to stop the "hero ball." .. holds on to the ball way too much.

    Why do people keep saying the niners gave up 3 first round picks? Lmao they traded two picks and had a pick swap.

    Only thing i can say for Wilson is its not his fault the Jets drafted him #2. Idk why they thought this was a good idea, but he was never gonna live up to that

    This draft class really did get screwed with their development. Besides Trey, they all kinda got thrown into the fire year 1

    I'm surprised Wilson's completion pct is over 50.0%.

    Think all these guys well not Trevor but think maybe the others guys on this list need a fresh restart on different teams

    I thought Mad Jones was on his way to become an Andy Dalton qb but I gave him way too much credit lol
