    I really like the way Wisconsin takes care of the natural resources. They make it very inviting to everyone.

      You should have seen it before the nature freaks and tourists took it over. Now it looks like a damn city park.

    Amazing how they start out so small...l live about an hour away from the start of the mighty mississippi river where you can step across without getting your ankles wet...

    Thanks for this video. The drone footage was epic. I have always wondered what the headwaters of the Wisconsin River looked like. Big fan of your channel. Looking forward to new videos.

    😅😅you most definitely earned the like. Obviously not from here. You just did what we've olny talked about doing for 55 years. You almost got to head down to Eagle River to get the manicured shoreline and river treatment.👍

    What king of drone do you use? Do you like it?
    Where are you staying the nights during these nights?
    What boat are you paddling looks like a Northstar phoenix

      My drone is a DJI Mavic Mini (the original Mini, not the newer Mini 2 or Mini SE). It meets my needs well. It doesn't have obstacle avoidance sensors or the better cameras of more expensive drones, but it's good enough for me as I'm not interested in spending a lot of time color grading video footage or editing RAW format stills. A big plus for me is that it weighs less than 250 grams, so it's exempt from registration and upcoming remote ID requirements in the US (as long as I use for "recreational" purposes only). Even more importantly (to me), it's exempt from Canada's more onerous testing and licensing requirements, so I can use it on my Canadian trips. Another big plus of it being so small is that the batteries are smaller so I can recharge them 2-3 times from a 20,000 mah power bank (this isn't true of larger drones).
      On many of my trips, I camp along the river. But I did this Wisconsin Headwaters trip as 3 day trips with a shuttle each day. I camped in the campground at Rohr's Wilderness Tours (rwtcanoe.com) on this trip. Nice people and very knowledgeable about the river.
      My canoe is a Hemlock SRT. I considered getting a Northstar Phoenix, but I felt it didn't have enough volume for me for longer trips or running rapids loaded with gear.

    What canoe did you use for this trip? I have a wenonah prism do you think it would be suitable for this stretch of river? Thanks for taking the time to make this and post it.

      I used a Hemlock SRT. I haven't paddled a Wenonah Prism, but I see by its specs and reviews that it has no rocker and is known as a fast, straight line cruiser. The headwaters of the Wisconsin has a lot of tight twisty turns, so a Prism wouldn't be my personal first choice. But that being said, they hold the Callie Rohr Memorial Canoe and Kayak Race on the 14-mile stretch from Rohr's Wilderness Tours to River Road Landing each August. They have a pro class in that race, so lots of people do it in fast, straight line cruisers.
      The upstream stretch from Lac Vieux Desert to Rohr's supposedly has some scrapy stretches. My experience may have been somewhat out of the ordinary in that they had several inches of rain the night before and there were aerial flood warnings in the area, so I was able to cruise right thru. I would suggest you contact Rohr's Wilderness Tours (rwtcanoe.com). They cater to paddlers and the owners know the river like the back of their hand.

    I paddled there with a friend. He fell out of the canoe and was eaten by alligators.

    Have you ever seen a moose up there while canoeing?!

    • @dunordable
      @dunordable  2 роки тому

      Moose are very rare in Wisconsin, so I’ve never seen one in Wisconsin. But I just got back from a trip on the Spanish River in Ontario where I did see a cow moose with 2 calves swim across the river in front of me. I’ve also seen moose on other trips in Canada.
