    The nature of your rig is surely not good for fish welfare with anything caught on the bottom hook getting hammered in the head by the lead weight!! It is not surprising you hurt a few! Rethinking your rig might prevent that?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 роки тому

    Nice video! Once the greatest cod beach on the south coast producing astonishing catches by todays standards I dream that one day the cod will return - not in my lifetime I think!... My biggest was 17lb in 1983. Always at night. Never fished there (Dengemarsh) in daylight. Such great memories. Coldest night was -14 degrees. F. had to keep the bait in my coat to stop it freezing solid.

    As soon as i saw that moon high in the sky at 7am, i thought you might struggle bro. Avoid it during the day. At the moment the moon is in the sky during the day around new moon here in the southern hemisphere, but not around full moon. The opposite is true for you. Try 2 days after new moon in a week and a bit, you will do much better if you find the fish. Good luck

    Used to fish in front of Hythe ranges at weekends in the 70,s. My mate used to dig fresh lug while the tide was out and we would fish there all night in the winter. Icicles hanging off the nose lol. If the army was using the ranges on a Saturday morning we had get to off before the flag went up or we were trapped there until it came down again. Plenty of cod, whiting and pouting in those days. Best a couple of days after a storm when things were settling down.

    Just wondering if you had any further thoughts on your 'stop-gap' rod? I'm fairly new to sea fishing but I'm a seasoned game angler and I bought one of these to cover what sea fishing I do during Autumn through to spring. Just fascinated to hear what you think of it and,also what your next rod will be. Loving your channel - very practical, informative and addictive - keep up the good work!

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 роки тому +1

      Hi David thanks , the rod I got as a stop gap is easy to cast , wobbly in the mid section (just like me) two rod rings have bust and the eye fell out of the tip. It actually casts o.k but has a real limit of power meaning you put everything in to a cast on say a half pendulum and it won’t get any more spring from the blank. However the bight detection is actually reasonable with whiting really rattling it. It suits a 4oz much better than a 5. It would be suitable for a stop gap or a new angler but more enjoyment comes from spending just a little bit more I think with Italian conti rods of around £100 being a sweet spot for choice and updated carbon

    • @gellytroch2380
      @gellytroch2380 3 роки тому

      @@SaltwaterAngler That's perfect. Thanks for your very helpful and prompt reply. That wobliness was kind of what I gathered from watching your casts with the rod. Mine arrived in the post with 2 ring liners broken so I had to replace those rings from the outset. Ive only fished a short session with it on my local small beach. It seemed ok, but I was glad to get the opinion of a seasoned angler on it. I might consider upgrading if I catch the sea bug! Thanks again. Dave.

    Iv'e often said that if there was no such thing as fishing I'd find another excuse to occupy myself by the water. Dungeness is a favourite , theres always something on the feed.
    Good production and editing on the vid, well done.
