@chriskolaska897 It locks all the gears together permanently. It's definitely not ideal for corners on pavement, but if it's always off-road, it shouldn't matter.
2nd gens are great. Cheap, replacement parts available at every home depot. Would love to see a good size steel winch front bumper. 5.2s and 5.9s are awesome.
Great video! Love the off-road content. Pro tip before you go through any water. Spray your electronics in your engine bay down with WD-40 it repels water.
I have waited for this moment for a long time. Watching these guys see how good the 2nd gen ram really is offroad even stock except tire's was great. Mike is now a believer and its beautiful.
Mike was tremendous the editing. All of it was wholesome. It had everything I love Thank you bud. Ben gets 🅰️ family togetherness for the win Absolutely hilarious love y’all enjoy the playlist.
Mike if you run across an early 2000s Dakota R/T you should scoop it up. They came with the same 5.9L Magnum V8. They were only 2wd but, weigh much less than the 1500 Ram. Take the Dakota, swap out trans for 4x4 1500 trans, run front drive shaft/axles and put a 6+ " lift on it to make a trail beast out of it.
Honestly being a 2nd gen guy it hurt to see a shorty cut up but it is pretty cool I will admit I think the thing that bothered me the most was seeing a clean oem fender cut up
My first truck was a 98 gas 2500 on a 7” lift, got it for $3500 and that truck made it more places than most jeeps. The 2nd gens are cheap and capable for sure.
The second gen Rams are some of the toughest and most capable trucks ever made imo. Where I’m from in East Tennessee you can still find many of them still on the roads and trails.
I'm not big into this off-roading crap, but I have to say I'm really impressed with what that otherwise stock Ram was able to do! And, not even break, or breakdown!
I think it'll make it with through the mud hole with at least one locker in it. It'll definitely make it with two lockers, but with open differentials in both im pretty sure you're going to need to be winched out.
Mike, your driveway never looked better than with those two Ram trucks at the end! REAL hardware that REAL people in the REAL world can relate to. You took an affordable useful rig they can relate to, buy and use everyday, spent a few bucks and conquered most anything. Best upload in a long time (Ben may be making you look good?)! Very cool mods on the old girl! Add those rear window stickers to the 717Supply catalog! 🔥🔥🔥
That’s pretty sick. I’m currently building a 3/4 ton Ram into an off-road rig. It’s got the 8.0 V10 and is the same color scheme as this one: two tone blue with grey
You need to look up the ultimate adventure and see how they build their off road rigs. Fred Williams has a bunch of videos building rock crawling rigs. Just add some lockers, build yourself a tubular front bumper with a winch.
Sweet truck love the older rams almost brings ya back to the movie twister could almost have movie theme going Mike, good job on the video buddy you’re always bringing great things that’s why I can never stop watching
This was exactly like my first truck! 😂 In highschool, I had a 99 Ram single cab 4wd with a V8. However mine was Black. It was a BEAST! I beat that truck everyday, and it took everything I threw at it.
Reminds me of mine. I had a white 4dr 99 ram sport 4x4 with the 5.9L 360 gas motor. I had a custom 14.5in lift in the front and a 15in lift in the rear. I ran 40 x 15 in TSL super swampers that weren't radials. I drove it daily for a while. So mich fun wish I still had it sometimes.
other then the blazer, this might be the best off roading rig mike has made. the new trucks are nice but something about a beater with some bog ole tires on and cut fenders is just way better!
I went to high school in Alabama. We all had something like this and we drove them daily to school and would tear up some old logging trails on the way home lol
If you disconnect the front sway bar and get rid of the coilover on the rear ( keep the leafs) you can get more suspension flex. I love your vids keep it up
u might wanna swap out fluid on both diffs, and make sure u have long tubes for the diff and trans vents, itll make er last longer in deep mud and water
You gotta get a sxs mike, get an x3 turbo rr or a Polaris pro r. The combination of speed and off-roading you would love it. I think your reaction and building it would make great content too.
But why pay 35k for a sxs when he gets this type of content for 1k . I don't think he has the right audience for a sxs . He already loses views doing the off road stuff . It's just tougher for him in the winter. Oh and he already has the best sxs ever in the Blazer.
I challenge you to ship it to Utah or w/e and meet up with Kevin of LiteBrite and run it against The Step Child. I bet you loose, lol. Grant it him being a better driver in general and driving The Step Child for years, he knows his rig well and definitely has an advantage over you. But knowing the shit The Step Child has been through, Kevin will leave you somewhere if it doesn't have a bypass. And I don't think they have ever damaged a metal body panel, only the plastic fenders that snap back on after a rock rips them off.
Dude, in case you didn't know the guy isn't supposed to wear a ring until the damn deal is done and official. Pretty sure they say it's bad luck even. Engagement rings are only for the ladies not the fellas. But, if y'all did finally tie the knot that's awesome and I'd say best wishes and congratulations
I apologize for leaving the paragraphs but you know what would be cool if to Cummings swap it and bigger bumpers and tint the windows if the yellow garage ain't really staying this year I hope soon we get another crazy Corvette or mustang build keep building the truck to be a crazy off-road monster
I have a 97 ram with a six inch lift on 35s and my tires rub bad. I'm gonna have to do that mod to cut the fender behind the wheel to get the full turn out of it.
You will be amazed if your throw another like maybe 2grand into upgrades like steering and shocks and lockers and bumpers it will be a offroading machine.
Hey Mike, you may remember me from the toy drive on Sunday, I was the kid on the cowboy hat that was asking about the SVJ, would you be able to do one pure video of just driving the SVJ kinda like randy did with the pov drive
Short wheelbase, amazing entry and exit angles. So much fun
Perfect combo!
I had one! This video made me miss it 😢
Mike if you’re just going to use it off-road, Weld the differentials!!! She will crawl everything 😅
This! LOL
Yes
What does welding the differential do?
@chriskolaska897 It locks all the gears together permanently. It's definitely not ideal for corners on pavement, but if it's always off-road, it shouldn't matter.
@petergjengdahl2243 hmm that's interesting thx
2nd gens are great. Cheap, replacement parts available at every home depot. Would love to see a good size steel winch front bumper. 5.2s and 5.9s are awesome.
Yep I've have my 5.9 for 10 years now love my 2nd gen
Excellent work Mike ,fantastic to see Steve alive and well . PA winter = truck stuff .Adds contrast too channel thankyou
I dont know how mike gets lucky with these finds lol first the blazer and now the ram being hella off-road capable 😅bravo. Keep it coming man 👍
I get lucky! But to be fair, don’t forget I paid $8,000 for that C4 that blew up on the day I bought it😂 So I don’t win every time-
Honestly this are probably my favorite vids. Lots of fun for cheap and can’t wait to see it against the mud hole
Great video! Love the off-road content. Pro tip before you go through any water. Spray your electronics in your
engine bay down with WD-40 it repels water.
Good point
I have waited for this moment for a long time. Watching these guys see how good the 2nd gen ram really is offroad even stock except tire's was great. Mike is now a believer and its beautiful.
I gotta say… I love it!
@@StreetSpeed717 im glad you do i have built a couple of these and loved every bit of them if you need any advice on anything let me know.
@@justadakota1822 same here, can’t go wrong with a ram regular cab
Even had a Dakota with a 5.2 back in the day
The old Ram looks SICK 🔥…..btw that little voice impression you did 14:02 was hilarious 🤣.
My radio voice😂
This is the best build you've done yet in my opinion. It's a real world build. I'll be paying attention to this one.
VERY FUNNY @14:02 the mud hole will the ram survive
Thanks Bob!
Mike was tremendous the editing. All of it was wholesome. It had everything I love Thank you bud. Ben gets 🅰️ family togetherness for the win Absolutely hilarious love y’all enjoy the playlist.
Thanks as always Rob!
I think it would look killer with the front grille and the bottom of the doors painted black.
2 minutes spray can job is all it needs ;)
Mike if you run across an early 2000s Dakota R/T you should scoop it up. They came with the same 5.9L Magnum V8. They were only 2wd but, weigh much less than the 1500 Ram. Take the Dakota, swap out trans for 4x4 1500 trans, run front drive shaft/axles and put a 6+ " lift on it to make a trail beast out of it.
You should go ahead and weld the rear differential, and put a front locker in. After that your truck will literally go anywhere.
Honestly being a 2nd gen guy it hurt to see a shorty cut up but it is pretty cool I will admit I think the thing that bothered me the most was seeing a clean oem fender cut up
Mike now all you have to do is put some lockers in it and the ram would be even more fun offroading. Love the videos been watching for 5 years now!
Those old Rams rock, I had a 2000 that was indestructible. I can’t believe you can fit 38” with no lift , wish I knew that when I had mine lol

I love the feeling of constant dread driving a shit box off road. Nothing like risking becoming stranded in the middle of no where, feels great!
Everytime Mike shows his face without sunglasses an angel gets its wings 🪽
Call it the "Rambo"
Mike, your driveway never looked better than with those two Ram trucks at the end! REAL hardware that REAL people in the REAL world can relate to. Your filming and editor guy needs a raise these are feature film quality!
My man! ❤
Weld that rear diff and then you will really have something unstoppable.
Lincoln lock the front and rear (weld the spider gears together) and send it!
Great upload Mike, from the look of those old tires I think a leaf might of poked a hole in the tire lol.
I also think it would be great if Ram came out with a Gen 2 Retro Ram with all the modern interior touches of a Gen 5.
Mike I know of another C4 for around $1000. Supposedly runs and drives and has a title. And it's yellow.
Hellcat and lockers now 🤝
need to see more videos with this thing!! Looks like an RC car and I love it
How cool is that? It comes with easy clearance mods from factory :D
Lockers seem like the next step. Looks fun to drive!
That’s pretty sick. I’m currently building a 3/4 ton Ram into an off-road rig. It’s got the 8.0 V10 and is the same color scheme as this one: two tone blue with grey
Mike, Feeling the Ram love. Put lockers in it and a winch and you'll have a shorty Power Wagon.
Really trusting that stick in the mud, I was waiting for a snap!
Awesome, loved the 4 wheel action, takes me back to my college days!!
Needs a 717 livery! Awesome Build
Dude that thing is actually sick...I need that for my hunting truck....amazing how capable something could be if you had the balls to cut it like that
You need to look up the ultimate adventure and see how they build their off road rigs. Fred Williams has a bunch of videos building rock crawling rigs.
Just add some lockers, build yourself a tubular front bumper with a winch.
Some lockers and gears that thing would be unstoppable
Mike should really make that into a rock crawler some badass suspension so it can truly climb and flex
NEED SOME LOCKERS !! great video
That's a bad unit baby!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Those vintage dodges are badass!
Id take them any day over a new dodge
This thing is amazing. Always awesome when a truck can do things that should seem impossible.
DUDE! The Dodge is awesome!!! Now I want to build one!
Mike you have created a monster with a few cuts and different wheels!!!
I beat that truck everyday, and it took everything I threw at it.
i really like to see an RAM TRX single Cab short bed Dodge need to build one
You should do a colab with Lite Brite !!
I don’t even remember 4:53 happening. that’s insane 😂
So mich fun wish I still had it sometimes.
i’m not the biggest on the off-road stuff but i must say, i am fully invested in this truck.
other then the blazer, this might be the best off roading rig mike has made. the new trucks are nice but something about a beater with some bog ole tires on and cut fenders is just way better!
Petition for Mike to get 4:56s and lockers->
Weld the diffs and take out the front sway bar
The camera man was excellent
Thank you!
I went to high school in Alabama. We all had something like this and we drove them daily to school and would tear up some old logging trails on the way home lol
Gen 2 Rams are great. Still have my 97 Gen 2. My Gen 2 has become my daily again and my TRX sits safely in the garage so it doesn't get stolen.
You're gonna need to weld those axles up
Disconnect the sway bars too it'll help the suspension articulate
If you disconnect the front sway bar and get rid of the coilover on the rear ( keep the leafs) you can get more suspension flex. I love your vids keep it up
u might wanna swap out fluid on both diffs, and make sure u have long tubes for the diff and trans vents, itll make er last longer in deep mud and water
Insane truck, maybe some lockers and a 4 link this thing will go some nasty places.
That's the lil truck that could!! Lol. Love it! 😂
You gotta get a sxs mike, get an x3 turbo rr or a Polaris pro r. The combination of speed and off-roading you would love it. I think your reaction and building it would make great content too.

Mike i love the offroading vids with that ol ram please keep them going needs winch bad. Love your vids. 😊
I challenge you to ship it to Utah or w/e and meet up with Kevin of LiteBrite and run it against The Step Child. I bet you loose, lol. And I don't think they have ever damaged a metal body panel, only the plastic fenders that snap back on after a rock rips them off.
You should be fine you have to send it Steve saved in your contacts just in case you get stuck
I had one. It never got stuck. All I had was newer 20” ram rims and some meaty tires mine was 5 speed
I’d definitely unhook the air bag in the steering wheel if your gonna be ramming stiff with it lol.
Love Bobby representing with the Hershey Bears hat!
Street Speed 717 Awesome Video I think it's awesome that your Ram Charger is going to get built for Off-roading and I can't wait to see it
Man, if you get a winch bumper, and do some ARB lockers on that thing, it will be unstoppable!
Honestly hysterical those stickers are still on the window 😂 gotta love it
I need to start editing my off roading videos.... awesome content Mike. Love the old Dodge
Hey Brother you need to service them differentials now there's a very good chance you got water in there
I apologize for leaving the paragraphs but you know what would be cool if to Cummings swap it and bigger bumpers and tint the windows if the yellow garage ain't really staying this year I hope soon we get another crazy Corvette or mustang build keep building the truck to be a crazy off-road monster
I have a 97 ram with a six inch lift on 35s and my tires rub bad. I'm gonna have to do that mod to cut the fender behind the wheel to get the full turn out of it.
Put lockers on!!
Bro that thing is wild and looks like so much fun.
I think it'll make it as long as its 4*4. Looks sick man on those 38s
Mike you should buy your Zr1 back!! Loving the videos
You will be amazed if your throw another like maybe 2grand into upgrades like steering and shocks and lockers and bumpers it will be a offroading machine.
Get lockers it would be unstoppable
Hard to beat an old 2nd gen.
we need a performance build on the blazer or the ram for off-road purposes
Truck is 🔥🔥👌💪
Spray paint it yellow to match everything else! lol Cheers from Detroit
That thing would be killer with a overland setup in the bed
Hey Mike, you may remember me from the toy drive on Sunday, I was the kid on the cowboy hat that was asking about the SVJ, would you be able to do one pure video of just driving the SVJ kinda like randy did with the pov drive
That announcer voice though!!! " The Mud Hole " 🤣🤣🤣
Literally my favorite truck so far
Need to disconnect the front sway bar or take it out.
Such a classic truck to build!!
