I saw him play live once. He was having a quiet game (maybe ill) and seemed to be contemplating it as he bent down to tie up his laces. The next play he gets the ball at about 60m out, proceeds to run through 5 tackles including hardman Alama Ieremia. TRY.

Nothing is funnier than the last try, where he steamrolled over the perfectly lined up English fullback like he was a child - the poor guy will never live that down. I was watching the game live when it happened and burst out laughing.

As a South African, he WAS the best player of the game of all time. Not just was he a gentle giant but he had that amazing unheard of speed and determanation go with it! True legend of our time... South Africa will never forget the respect he showed to Joost van der Westhuizen! I thing NZ ans SA will dominate the game for the the next 8 years!
