Helpful video thanks, tip for getting the tyre bead to seal on the wheel rim before you inflate the tyre is to put a retaining strap or a narrow rachet strap around the tyre and this pushes the side of the tyre out onto the rim once it's bedded and holding a bit of pressure remove the strap and inflate.
I am picking up a 2017 Africa Twin. They only issue I have is the tubed tires, I want tubeless. I have seen some of the tape videos and think that is a viable way to make the tire tubeless for short and intermediate trips. I would just be concerned with higher speeds, for extended periods of time. I have priced several tubeless wheel and yes, they can be expensive, but I look at it as a tool, yes the tape may work, but is it the right tool for the job (jerry rigging) or get the actual tool for the job, a tubeless wheel. I dont want to be 8000 miles away from home, having issues because I did not use the right tool.
I would suggest if you don't like the idea of the tape then go for tubeless wheels. I certainly had no issues with mine and no way would I want to change a tube in the rain on a motorway! Great bike the AT. Enjoy.😁
With the stock front tire that came on the Africa twin I had a puncher the sidewalls were strong enough for me to drive 50 miles home on a really challenging gravel roads and the tire did not come off the rim, when I went to repair it it was difficult as hell to get tire off
Ah yes , as practice i removed the front tyre several times , much cursing and blooded knuckles to prove it , therefore went tubeless. Loved that bike 😂
Thanks for this video! I had a flat (nail in the tube) with the wife and OMG 🤦🏻♂️ what a nightmare…I’m going to convert my 2017 Honda Africa tubeless & will be replacing my tires 🛞… question 🙋🏼♂️ do I buy tires for tube or tubeless? Thanks any advice is greatly appreciated! Ride safe….
That was why I changed to tubeless. its all unofficial /not approved..at your own peril etc. etc. I had no issues with mine and I had the Pirelli SCORPION RALLY STR, brilliant tyre for the road and a bit of gravel work. My main issue was being on a motorway in the rain with the wife on the back and getting a puncture.... if this happened my wife would have killed me for the time it would take to repair the puncture!!!!!!I practiced in the warmth of my garage and it was ok but something I would not want to do if I am being honest . ride safe. 😁
@@JoseOrtega-xn4mj You can, I believe , use a tubeless tyre on a tubed rim with a tube inside. what you cannot doing is use an inner tube on a tubeless designed wheel rim. The Pirelli STR was a brilliant tyre for going quick on the road. Looked good and went well.(for a 21 inch skinny front tyre!!!!!)
Hi I still have the Honda and have a new KTM 890R which I have ridden for 2 months without riding the Honda ! Checked the pressures a few days ago as took it out for a ride and the front tyre was down by 2psi!! Which I believe any bike would do, if sat around for several months. So the answer is yes it’s still holding air 😎
Hello, mate. Excellent video. I’m interested in the Japanese Outex kit conversion, but with your video, I’m wondering if it’s the same and much more cheaper.
Hi . There are many videos out on UA-cam about how to do this conversion .... and indeed I copied how one chap did it . I have seen the outex kit which is not cheap , but i guess it’s what you feel happy to use . I’ve had no issues with mine so far . They are all obviously diy and the bottom line is you are taking a calculated chance with the way I did it or indeed the motex way so you do what you feel happy/safe with .... personally I have changed the tubes on my Africa twin several times for the practice when I first got it and even in the warmth of my garage in was a right pain in the ass !!! hence the conversion with a plug and go kit as backup and a mini compressor. Good luck 😉
Hi enjoyed your video about converting your rims and thanks for showing what can go wrong. I am looking to do the same thing and was wondering are you able reuse the tube tyres once you have done the conversion or do you have to buy new tubeless tyres. Many Thanks Peter
Peter Whitmore hi Peter. I am no tyre expert. I would have a look on the side of your existing tyre and see what the coding says. I would say that most oem tyres fitted as standard to the AT can be used without the inner tube , BUT check first. if you have a proper knobbly , tubed only tyre , then you may have to get new tyres. I have always found e mailing the tyre company customer service department very helpful. Videos a bit long but I wanted to show everything!!!!

Hello Is it still holding air after a year? Thanks so much

Hello Sir.
May I ask where you get that Smoked Windshield? Its OEM?
Thanks ✌
Hi Bruno . It came with the bike and put on by the previous owner . I don’t know if it’s the standard size or bigger ?
I think it's the standard size and a little smoked/dark then the original. But thanks, I will do a research 👍
