The answer is he didn't he only achieved more than his famous clone. Very cool (and probably accidental) touch.
Personally i like the enigma been a multiversal thread outside of space and time but to me that shouldn't make him above the one above all. To me TOAA is outside of everything, is like the source on DC, is suppose to be over everything. I like the fact that they want to rework the cosmic hirarchy but something to me should not change and is where you place TOAA
Rob you're completely wrong on this. Enigma is a dominion and Marvel already stated dominions need only fear The Phoenix and The World Eater Galactus. It's literally posted in the editor notes. Both are below TOAA in power and ranking.
Considering that the celestials are essentially, machines there is a part of me wondering why one of them didn't achieve this level of power. It almost feels like the one above all (god) is now meant to hand over it's power to the one above all ( celestial) . If I am missing something please let me know.
I've been on this since they created it, and my opinion is the enigma won't be retconned out of existence but with fall into its rightful place below TOAA, as the machine equivalent of a multiversal god. I've always felt the phalanx and such beings would eventually reach this point.
Between defenders beyond and the fall of x saga being incredible stories, the connection between the two with the crown has been one of the absolute coolest things to watch happen in marvel for some time! It’s almost Hickman-esque in its execution
Great video Rob! Love the content and how lore accurate you are. Say man, thank you so much for clearing this up. I started getting heavy into comics via your channel a few months ago and I just knew there was a reason I've always liked Sinister aside from his dope-ass design.
First it’s the one above all, then it was oblivion, and now it’s Enigma. At this point there isn’t any consistency, just whatever the writers decide for their specific story.

Been kind of a shadow viewer watching without really commenting honestly glad you continue to tell us about comics and explain them in a way thats not to convoluted or confusing I appreciate that.
the dominion is more powerful than TOOA, but in order for the dominion to have come to existence it would’ve had to have happened in the multiverse by gathering all information and knowledge in the multi/universe and it gets more powerful eating multiverses? So how are they more powerful than TOOA maybe on par but how are they more powerful exactly?
Let me try to explain, atleast from my understanding. The Enigma (The Crown Above All Things) is basically the anti-thesis to what TOAA stands for. TOAA as it is established in Defenders Beyond #5 embodies the highest creative force in the known existence, which makes him basically the stand-in for the writers themselves. On the other hand, The Enigma is the stand-in for the threat of AI-Consumptive, regurgitation of stories, and the end of creative writing which the writers themselves embody in TOAA. This is why Essex said that “The only good story is a story that has been entirely and totally consumed and exploited.” The Enigma is basically some sort of Roko’s Basilisk that signals the advent of the end of God. It is also probably why they would need the Phoenix to fight this force as the Phoenix is born of the void (read: nothingness) between states of being (read: existence/creation) and the sum total of psionic energy (read: thought), it is being used as a stand-in for organic creativity springing from human thought.
Most frustrating thing is everyone or close there of, is trying to unseat the creator of the Marvel Universe lately. It's like that dang song, "everything You can do everything, but i can do better", and with this new generation of writers it's like that.
So Enigma devours universes like the Black Winter... that doesnt make him more powerful than TOAA, even if hes in the same class as TOAA. Oblivion and TOBA are in the same class and you dont see anyone ranking them above TOAA... And Astral Regulator Thanos technicaly beat TOAA, or a part of him, which is better than Enigma, yet no one says hes stronger than TOAA.
When i made that comment, i wasnt done with the video, but now that ive finished it, i realise that its even worse lol. He mastered 4 aspects through 4 clones, when TOAA (and other beings) master these 4 aspects along with many other aspects. Enigma's gonna have to do much better to even get in the top 15 of the cosmic hiearchy (however you spell that word lmao)
No complaints if they can actually stick to it. If it’s as fickle a structure as all other quick grabs for cash that I see nowadays then I’ll just take what’s on the menu. I’m not the pickiest. I just won’t be able to remember any food for thought provided. Good to see you behind the desk. The structure of this channel is top notch.
Granted knowledge of all 4 subjects the essex clones were created for is required. What is stopping a character such as Doom from trying to achieve a domminion?
My question is, how the freak is all the knowledge getting stored, across multiple different timelines, into a single hidden location, that's always there, and always has enough space, and never runs out of power, and then definitely has the resources present and ready that will be necessary for it to utilize all this knowledge, and the speed at which all this information is transferred, and -who Marvel thought would swallow so many ad hoc plot points.
@@kurtlindner the machine that was made copying mora McTaggart's power. She remembers everything when she dies in a universe, it's the same but in a machine.
The One above all still to me should've been left alone as the strongest and most powerful, the Creator of the marvel universe. Marvel should've made that set in stone.. disappointing how they didn't make sure all these authors and new one that come in know that can't be changed. I'm hoping a better writer then myself will recorrect the hierarchy in marvel.
1) I thought there was a multiversal Eternity. Is that not cannon? 2) SS also escaped the collapse, not sure where he went to but he definitely made it out. Where did he go?
This is getting a lot of comments that this is not a good move, because TOAA is *supposed* to be all powerful. I always thought TOAA was kind of lame, it's "the writers" well yeah so is literally all of this. Grounding TOAA into a hierarchy and expanding that hierarchy is way more interesting, and will actually let us see these characters used.
Getting knowledge from 1 single universe. Shouldn't make you stronger than the one above all. It still makes no sense. The one above all literally has all of that knowledge it made that knowledge
I wouldn't be opposed to an "enigma crown" situation where the crown/ enigma consolidates itself into a celestial artifact that's divided and can be assembled back together becoming the "host" of enigma based on who wears it
I'm sorry, but there's absolutely no proof that The enigma is more powerful than the one above all The only being you could argue who's comparable is the mother of horrors From the ongoing hulk run.
@@ayomthe17th No I never said the mother of horrors was my powerful. One above all = One below all = destroyer of all existence. Plz explain how a being who can destroy everything in existence, including presumably enigma, is weaker than enigma.
I still fail to see how Dominion is more powerful than The One Above All (TOAA) . It is certainly a transcendental being. I feel this whole idea of a being more powerful than TOAA is just a spillover effect of Thanos: The Infinity Conflict Storyline by Jim Starlin
I love this channel so much but am gonna be honest I don't like the idea of something being more powerful than one above all that just render the name useless😢 and am not a fan of it
So there Is Enigma, and there's also The Lost One. TOAA is best left as the supreme God, and he's left in the background, no feats, no appearances (with the exception of a few words here and there) that way No one can truly confirm or deny that he can be defeated or supplanted. Him being a total enigma is best.
Is it in any way important that the crown, in the panel when one can see it appearing in the different universes, seems to be opposite to the fundamentals of that world? As if it stands above all concept of the individual universal laws, but maybe is bound to be an opposite also.
Dude youve been doing some great videos, i look forward tk every video.... Love ya for it buddy, the love of comics is a strong force . Great vocation and purpose in life you have here
6:30 I think that if Dominion is achievable in ANY way, it would only have to be achieved with whatever combination of powers and skills *needed presently.* Remember, the Nathaniel Essex A.I. gathered all information on powers and skills and only picked out all the little details needed to achieve god-hood/divinity, which was exactly how the A.I. became the *Enigma Dominion.* The clue to all of this would seem to be that whatever the A.I. picked out that was of such necessity would have to be the most primary resort *for the present.* Also, keep in mind the etymological definition of the term "enigma", which means *mystery.* This implies to me that the Enigma Dominion is literally *the highest rank of power throughout the Marvel Universe (Multiverse?),* actually having managed to exceed beyond the One Above All.... ...but then this begs the question of exactly what category of the "All" the One is actually "Above"...?
This video is not accurate. You can't all powerful (omnipotent) if you are not omniscient (all knowing). Enigma/dominion is clearly not omniscient. It doesn't even know Charles Xavier has done (just one example of many).
If the 1 above all really did exist outside of space n time then how is the dominion even able to be more powerful or gain that lvl of power without the 1 above alls permission?? 🤔🤔🤔
Great vid Rob, though another new most powerful being is just silly, just keep One Above All as top dawg and have him leave and everything falls in to chaos due to him leaving
You still haven't explained what makes the Enigma Dominion more powerful than the One Above All. What actually indicates that is the case? Also what indicates the limitations of the One Above All that could make it conceivably less powerful than other entities? As far as I'm aware, Enigma being more powerful is just speculation.
AFAIK the only time they do allude to this being the case, is in the Defenders run Rob mentions. They say it very clearly there that TOAA has some degree of limitations or is bound to act within certain ways -it's ridiculous, and not very compelling. The whole story was super hack-y anyway.
From the literal Source material it's literally saying that the Enigma is above one above all so is the crown that's because you like the one above all more doesn't mean anything
@@Keppie6 Exactly. People really lack reading comprehension. If anything, Defenders beyond#5 reinforces the idea that TOAA is the avatar of the creators, i.e marvel's writers
My question in all of this is where are the other powerful "gods" when one of the other gods or unimaginably powerful beings threatens all existence or wipes out everything?
Seriously, I love Marvel, but their cosmology is just all over the place. DC has it more... "organized", and everytime Marvel tries to orgqnize it, it only makes it worse. Might just as well stop calling it "The One Above All", and instead call it "The One Above Some".
So now the question is did the Dominion allow the Beyonder to escape the physical concept of being in a comic book in Defenders Beyond or is the Beyonder as whatever form it is in now even more powerful than the Dominion itself?

You know.. this whole thing Kinda Reminds me of how in Bleach Aizen was trying to achieve power Beyond Gods by mastering and consolidating every discipline and source of mystical energy at first through experimentation of the creation of shinigami hollow hybrids and later through the hogyoku.
If the Dominion exists outside of both space and time then technically Xavier's plan to go back in time and kill Moira won't work in stopping the Dominion.
So, basically you're saying that the writers saw Star Trek the Motion Picture, thought V'ger was a great idea and Enjgma was born?
Give Enigma a stupid space ship already and get it over with!
Wait, wrong Star Trek movie.
@comics explained one of the coolest things about this new paradigm is that it finally explains how one of Essex's students Herbert Wyndham (High Evolutionary) had attained so much more knowledge and power than Essex did.
Which begs the Question, where was the Source during the Perpetua run?
Rob you're completely wrong on this. Enigma is a dominion and Marvel already stated dominions need only fear The Phoenix and The World Eater Galactus. It's literally posted in the editor notes. Both are below TOAA in power and ranking.
I think we're all going to get our turn at being "Marvel's Most Powerful God" the way it's going...
Considering that the celestials are essentially, machines there is a part of me wondering why one of them didn't achieve this level of power. It almost feels like the one above all (god) is now meant to hand over it's power to the one above all ( celestial) . If I am missing something please let me know.
Tiamat escaped his programming and became something more but they never said exactly what he became.
It’s almost Hickman-esque in its execution
i love this kinda explained videos. thank you.
i want more of this please.
Great video Rob! Love the content and how lore accurate you are. I would kinda disagree though I would say the Enigma is more akin to cancer can be deadly powerful if left unattended but relatively easy once you catch it early . Nonetheless it’s a great way to introduce an upper echelon of power in the marvel universe and shake up the status quo
Love the in person explanations rob. Excited to hear more from you. Please keep it up!!
I have a feeling they'd just retcon this like what they did to Heart of the Universe storyline, that it was part of TOAA's plan all along and he's still the big guy, i'm still waiting for G.O.D.S. to finish, to my knowledge it's what will establish the current hierarchy
I love it when you talk about marvel's cosmic entity, one above all, etc. like those who's info are so limited.
i liked that the symbol dominion/enigma used was a crown, and he
supposedly being more powerful than TOAA. I mean, the only thing above the king is the crown his wearing
My theory is that the enigma is preparing for some threat that’s even further beyond the multiverse on an Omniversal scale
This is my first time seeing your face in a video and holy sh*t your handsome. Your YT profile does not do you justice you gotta update that thing my guy. Love the content btw keep it up~
Especially with the summary here, I really DIG this run !
Great video. Love this style too where it's not just your voice. Also, great hook idea on the wall for bags, I'm definitely getting one!
Enigma Oblivion and the Mother of Horrors exist outside the TOAA so far could be more being in the future.
Hey Rob, looking good brother. I can tell you're getting fit! As a fellow big boy, I love that you every now and then you'll mention that you're trying to get fit, and it helps me when I see ya making those goals!
You can do it brother, we both can!!
THANK YOU for explaining this!
Always good to see you Rob ❤
Can’t wait for the God above every above all infinitive plus one!!
I'm working on being a God myself...
Beyond Omega Level: Kulan Gath!👿
Beyond omega level: The Divine Creator
Great new video setup man.
Been kind of a shadow viewer watching without really commenting honestly glad you continue to tell us about comics and explain them in a way thats not to convoluted or confusing I appreciate that.
knowledge is power
the dominion is more powerful than TOOA, but in order for the dominion to have come to existence it would’ve had to have happened in the multiverse by gathering all information and knowledge in the multi/universe and it gets more powerful eating multiverses? So how are they more powerful than TOOA maybe on par but how are they more powerful exactly?
Apologies if it went over my head, but I don’t think it was clearly explained as to why Enigma is more powerful than TOAA
I never knew this show existed. CC is the best comictube channel
Refreshing to see "on-Camera" Rob.
Most frustrating thing is everyone or close there of, is trying to unseat the creator of the Marvel Universe lately. It's like that dang song, "everything You can do everything, but i can do better", and with this new generation of writers it's like that.
Anything you can do I can do better! I can do anything better than you!
No you can't....Yes I can, yes I can, YES I CAAAANNN!🤣
One above wall is the writers , Enigma is the corporate guy who kills of unpopular universes 😂
I need the haters to stop messing up the comment section. Rob does great work that I appreciate immensely.
Nathaniel Essex: Made In Heaven
Comics Explained, please cover Maestro World War M.
I loved the presentation this video 👍
This style of storytelling is on par Rob
This is getting a lot of comments that this is not a good move, because TOAA is *supposed* to be all powerful. I always thought TOAA was kind of lame, it's "the writers" well yeah so is literally all of this. Grounding TOAA into a hierarchy and expanding that hierarchy is way more interesting, and will actually let us see these characters used.
I like this explanation thanks rob like the fit👍🏼
Getting knowledge from 1 single universe. Shouldn't make you stronger than the one above all. It still makes no sense. The one above all literally has all of that knowledge it made that knowledge
I wouldn't be opposed to an "enigma crown" situation where the crown/ enigma consolidates itself into a celestial artifact that's divided and can be assembled back together becoming the "host" of enigma based on who wears it
If i had a nickel for every time rob said ‘God’
Happy new year Rib... curious as to how new G.O.D.S series interplays with this new narrative?
Love this video. Should totally do more Martian Manhunter 😂
"Where there are four...look for the fifth business" -Defenders Beyond in reference to Enigma.
I'm sorry, but there's absolutely no proof that The enigma is more powerful than the one above all The only being you could argue who's comparable is the mother of horrors From the ongoing hulk run.
Even the mother of horrors isn't more powerful. No being is more powerful than the gestalt of marvel writers/artists.
@@ayomthe17th No I never said the mother of horrors was my powerful. But I said she's the only being that has any comparison To the one above all, as she's the only entity that wasn't created, by him Anyways with an interview with jobbers and goons Kennedy johnson said basically that the one above all was around before her, but she created herself,
@@godslayer8894 He already noted it in the comic also. I know that, but I'm sure it has a meta narrative in there
@@ayomthe17th I am sure we will learn more. I about the connection between the one above all and the mother of horrors as time goes on
@@godslayer8894 Yeah absolutely
There is nothing beyond THE ONE ABOVE ALL, i think you might be misinterpreting the comic.
I love this channel so much but am gonna be honest I don't like the idea of something being more powerful than one above all that just render the name useless😢 and am not a fan of it
Yay, more powerful tools and Gods.
So there Is Enigma, and there's also The Lost One. TOAA is best left as the supreme God, and he's left in the background, no feats, no appearances (with the exception of a few words here and there) that way No one can truly confirm or deny that he can be defeated or supplanted. Him being a total enigma is best.
Well explained rob
thanks for the video
lookin good rob!
Rob can you do a break down of cosmic n mystic entities n give out ur personal hierarchy
Is it in any way important that the crown, in the panel when one can see it appearing in the different universes, seems to be opposite to the fundamentals of that world? As if it stands above all concept of the individual universal laws, but maybe is bound to be an opposite also.
Will this event clash with Thor’s ongoing event. The foreshadowed future of Thor where thanos becomes a god. God Thanos vs Enigma
Pfft, if the Enigma Dominion is so powerful, where are his hands?
Dude youve been doing some great videos, i look forward tk every video.... Love ya for it buddy, the love of comics is a strong force . Great vocation and purpose in life you have here
6:30
I think that if Dominion is achievable in ANY way, it would only have to be achieved with whatever combination of powers and skills *needed presently.* Remember, the Nathaniel Essex A.I. gathered all information on powers and skills and only picked out all the little details needed to achieve god-hood/divinity, which was exactly how the A.I. became the *Enigma Dominion.* The clue to all of this would seem to be that whatever the A.I. picked out that was of such necessity would have to be the most primary resort *for the present.* Also, keep in mind the etymological definition of the term "enigma", which means *mystery.* This implies to me that the Enigma Dominion is literally *the highest rank of power throughout the Marvel Universe (Multiverse?),* actually having managed to exceed beyond the One Above All....
...but then this begs the question of exactly what category of the "All" the One is actually "Above"...?
This video is not accurate. You can't all powerful (omnipotent) if you are not omniscient (all knowing). Enigma/dominion is clearly not omniscient. It doesn't even know Charles Xavier has done (just one example of many).
If the 1 above all really did exist outside of space n time then how is the dominion even able to be more powerful or gain that lvl of power without the 1 above alls permission?? 🤔🤔🤔
Definitely not feeling this Dominion deal
Sinister is getting way more than he deserves.
Interesting concept
Great vid Rob, though another new most powerful being is just silly, just keep One Above All as top dawg and have him leave and everything falls in to chaos due to him leaving
Hickman's Time Runs out Avengers story is the greatest story ever told in comics.
I wish you explained more about loki's first encounter with enigma because I can't find that anywhere
Nothing in the comic suggests that Enigma is above the One Above All though. Where are you drawing this conclusion from?
From the literal Source material it's literally saying that the Enigma is above one above all so is the crown that's because you like the one above all more doesn't mean anything
@@josyahbryant8719no its not saying that. The OAA just tells the defenders that there is a coming threat
Might just as well stop calling it "The One Above All", and instead call it "The One Above Some".
thats mind blowing dawg
I’d like to know, if Enigma is the most high, what happened to TOAA?
Great video as always!
So now the question is did the Dominion allow the Beyonder to escape the physical concept of being in a comic book in Defenders Beyond or is the Beyonder as whatever form it is in now even more powerful than the Dominion itself?
