    Having used an i7+/i8+ for more than two years and the obstacle avoidance is a critical feature. An S9+ style machine combined with the J7+ avoidance system would be ideal.

    Fascinating to see that Amazon acquired iRobot over the weekend. It'll be interesting to see what this means, if anything, over the next couple of years. Do you think we'll see any immediate changes?

    Glad it works for you man, but my experience has been one of frustration since 2020 with the S9+. Rarely does it finish a job, and only if the job happens to be a small room. If you give it a job that will take 30 minutes or more it'll throw an error, you're not getting through it. Bin not detected (it's there), lids open (it's not), Error 31, gets lost....etc. It is such a finicky vacuum. I updated the firmware, seems to have gotten slightly better but still fails all the time. Maybe I have an earlier version, hopefully any that are bought today are more reliable. I'm going with Roborock next time, and that next time being soon, I should've returned it way back when.

      when I first got my s9+ in 2019 I had the same issue. To the point that irobot replaced it. But the updates have since then fixed all the issues.

      Although this thing does a good job vacuuming, it can’t even dock itself without a push 9/10 times. Pass on it!

      We have an i8 and s9. The i8 is a work horse. Just goes and goes. The s9 was the newer model, and ours seems to constantly want attention. Error messages about “ can’t empty bin” or “ clean dust sensors”. Just replaced the rollers I bought on Amazon and they must be after market ones. Put them in and the thing makes noise like crazy. After market ones in the i8 work just fine. If I could have done it over again I would have tried to find another i8 for the upstairs instead of going with the “model upgrade”.

      My S9 can’t dock right either. It wants the steer right when climbing on the dock. It also bumps into things way too hard which according to iRobot is normal for this unit. I call BS.
      I have a high-end shark vacuum. Navigation on the shark is miles above the capabilities of this Roomba. I bought the Roomba used, and I would be highly pissed if I paid full price for this piece of … If I can ever get the damn thing to work right, I am going to unload it.

    I don't have the s9+, but the J7+, but I think there are many pros and cons. First off the bat, I bought the J7+ for the AI, as with 7 digs in the house, and one getting old and leaving surprises in the house every now and again, I had to change my robot I had, to something with AI (after a disaster in the bin!). At that stage only the J7+ was available in my country with OR, so i went for it.
    The biggest con was the navigation. My main house is around 350 sqm and with the VSLAM camera and poor battery, it took about three days of running, charging forever, running, charging, etc for the robot to properly map my house. Once it had the map, no issues ever. The second con is a little in the app. It would have been great just to see where it is busy and what it has completed. App just a little too basic.
    Pros. The J7 just works! My previous robot (lets not mention names) - which now runs in another part that is 100 sqm, used to have frequent clogs in the channel to the auto empty bin. The J7 doc has never had it. Like I said, it just works.
    It has also done very well to avoid any dog mistakes - something the other did twice!
    The battery life sucks, but I runs schedules which only do two rooms at a time and areas in higher issues areas. That way I make sure I never run out of battery.
    Unfortunately the J7 has only 2500 kpa suction, which is not adjustable. I was worried about it, but honestly, it performs very well. I have some carpets where it runs daily and it does well. I also have a daily cleaning around the chinchilla cage that is on tiles, it it cleans it perfectly, picking up anything from chinchilla food to straw.
    As a final comment - there are a lot more sophisticated robots on the market, but the J7+ just works without complaining. My other, much more advanced robot , not so much.

      Depends on the power level you give the motor for the suction. For mine, I believe the highest suction on carpet you get about 40 minutes and on the lowest you can get well over an hour.

    Great review! Neato vacuums started the D shape vacucms and the mapping via WIFI instead of the random cleaning and the rounded shape of the roomba. D shape is all god no downsides i had a neato for 8 years running once a day everyday. Amazing! now my neato is broken and I am looking for the J9s since Neato is leaving the robotic vacuum market to focus more in another line of robotics.

    Good video! But will no brand produce a robot vacuum cleaner with all the functions? hhaha the function of mopping the floor was missing! and it could also have the function of recharging its base, its tank, with water, or even if possible, some other perfumed liquid, right? OR IS THIS ROBOT VACUUM CLEANER ALREADY EXISTING with all those functions I mentioned above? if the answer is yes, what is the name of it?

    Actually Neato Pioneered the D Shaped Robot Vacuum. Not iRobot.

  • @user-ph1qr9yl6h
    @user-ph1qr9yl6h 3 місяці тому

    The side brush tips rip off within weeks unless you have all hard floor.
    The navigation has gotten worse over time, not better. Probably because IRobot is losing money and was really counting on Amazon bailing them out.
    The suction is amazing, but I think the Dreame X40 Ultra now has them beat with 12000 pa suction. However, that's why I'm looking up videos about it to see what the s9+ pa rating actually is. The suction was the main reason I got it years ago.
    But I have to say, you're comment that the side brush is one of the best things about this robot, I would have to strongly disagree based on years of experience with it continually losing all of its brush arms.

    Neato had the D-Shape long before iRobot had it. Maybe Neato isn't available in New Zealand?

    • @RobomateTV
      @RobomateTV  2 роки тому +1

      You’re right! I know Neato very well actually but they haven’t got auto-emptying at the moment, sadly. There have been some other square front robots too from the likes of Samsung, Electrolux and probably others. Still, I think the S9 is the only one available in NZL with auto-emptying. Thanks for the comment :)

      @@RobomateTV I don't think Neato is doing very well as a company. The company has had several rounds of layoffs and its introduction of new products and innovations has slowed way down. Too bad - they had a very good product, but have fallen behind.

    Very good review! As far as Amazon is concerned they don't have a good track record with acquisitions. The S9 Is a beast of a robovac and I believe that we might see a Neato resurgence {would love that, I'm glutton}, which would be ok with me. iRobot has been struggling the las t few years and I think the J series is what baited Amazon to buy them. The camera AI function of the J7 is a (tin foil hat on) is what Amazon is after...Just my maybe, ok informed opinion?

    • @RobomateTV
      @RobomateTV  2 роки тому

      Mmm, I must admit I haven't followed Amazon's other acquisitions so I wouldn't really know (with the exception of Ring). I would love to see a Neato resurgence too - it would be amazing to know what they're working on. A few people I talked to immediately speculated the conspiracy theory too but who knows. I suspect they probably already have enough insights, if they do want it, through their other products. I think it has the potential to be a great acquisition for them if they manage the transition well.

    Hi! Does it have problem going through from tiles to carpets in the same area? I never had a cleaning robot, so my guess is that it would never fall down the stairs, correct?

    • @allisonhuckstep4001
      @allisonhuckstep4001 8 місяців тому +1

      My S9 does great with transition from tile to carpet. Increases suction when it detects carpet. And no it will not fall down the stairs. It has "cliff" sensors.

    • @RobomateTV
      @RobomateTV  11 місяців тому

      I haven't had any issues with that. If it scratches, it's probably a damaged or incorrectly installed brush cover. Having said that, probably better options by now for hard-floors. :)

    Why is everyone testing these things on super easy to vacuum stuff like rice and cereal? I’m going to have to assume it’s because they are terrible vacuums and they can’t vacuum up real stuff.

    Never buy this iRobot products. It is made by a scam company. I bought brand new from an eBay seller. It is still under warranty and it broke down. The support person told me because I didn't purchase it from an authorized seller. So there is no warranty. They told me I have to pay for the repair even though it is still under warranty. Avoid this scam company.
