Yes, myself included. One needs to pay attention to the body. I kept coughing one night and realized it was inflammation from a small amount of carbs I had earlier in the day, otherwise I would have shrugged it off.
Of everything I have learned on my carnivor path THIS is the key for my journey. A month into carnivor I dropped 50 pounds in just a few weeks time. It scared me because I could hardly stand up. I had to wrap my legs to try to stop all my blood from going south. I knew nothing of salt or what sugar was doing to fluid in me. Trial and error taught me to put salt in my water. It took longer to balance than it took to drop all that fluid. It has been nearly 3 years now and I put Redmonds in all my water every time. Most of my excess skin is smooth now, I looked like a deflated elephant at first. I never feel light headed anymore and watching your video today explains all my pre carnivor symptoms, all of which are gone, and why salt was the answer. In my 70s but finely understand. Thank you so much for explaining it all to me.
What you’re saying is 100% spot on! Before going carnivore about a year ago, I had a BP of 171/110, weighed 271 pounds, & had swelling in my ankles. Now my BP is 117/73. I’m down to 191 pounds (still a work in progress) and my ankle swelling is gone! I’m trying to share this vital information with all of my family & friends, but even with my educational health background (I’m a DDS), the good news is sadly falling mostly on deaf ears. Thank you for your videos!
It does fall on deaf ears even when you stand before your loved ones weighing 25% less in a matter of weeks. They try to say things like I have better will power. I try to explain that is not the key but how the body reacts to the food you choose to eat rather than amount of food and they just say they can't do it. I have given up trying to change minds. If someone asks and I have had total strangers stop me I just say carnivor and leave it there. If they wish to look it up and study for themselves I am sure they will find their way. My own family fill of heart issues and obesity would rather reject me than ask. They don't want to give up their carbs. It is so sad.
Thank you Dr Cywes for this video. It was extremely educational. We have all heard that sugar is inflammatory to the body, but I’ve never heard anyone clearly explain exactly HOW it is inflammatory to the body tissues. You explained it very well. Great job! Thank you again. 🙏
Thanks for your great information. I've introduced my cardiologist to your channel and just hoping she listens. She doesn't like me much because I espouse your information so maybe now, she'll learn new tricks. I appreciate you!😊
My cardiologist disliked my espousal of Dr. Cywes and others in the carnivore space so much that she sent a private message through her portal that one of her employee’s ears “were met with unkind words” and asked me not to come back! What can you do but laugh and move on. She was not to be challenged and heavy into lipidology methods of trying to treat CVD. Most will die on that hill I’m afraid.
When my partner went carnivore over six years ago her tinnitus completely disappeared, and has never returned. I now understand why! An excellent video.
Well, that was a lot of biology but I listened all the way through so everyone, hang in there! Made sense after I thought about the facts you presented.
This is the reason I put a little salt in my water and drink half glass at a time. Too much water causes me nausea from standing up after squatting a few minutes but when I drink the right amount of water with salt. The nausea from standing do not occur even when after squatting for many minutes. I experiment with my body many times which is the reason I know.
This is essentially the reason why most young children have so many behavioural issues. Not enough water and glucose overload. I have seen this play out after lunch time with preschoolers.
Vegetables were traditionally prepared as a vehicle for animal fat. Fat soluble vitamins are no longer present in preparations that use seed oils instead of animal fat.
Thanks for giving us something new to think about. I was starting to wonder if anyone was going to come up with a new thought in connection with keto or carnivore, or if we were going to keep hearing the same ol' same ol'.
I need help folks. Keto for years, carnivore 6+ months I can't reintroduce any carbs soluble or vegetable fibres my inflammation comes back immediately. I have this ankle swelling from keto days to even now. I tried potassium+magnesium it didn't work (sodium potassium pump theory), I always have water with lemon juice and salt. I take Lugol's iodine also. What am I missing neither my swelling goes down nor high BP despite carnivore over 6 mth. I lost 5 kg water weight no fat loss and I wonder why am I such an exception .I thank you & appreciate you all.
keep with it, make sure you’re high fat moderate protein. e.g. 2-3g fat per kg bodyweight and 1g protein per kg bodyweight. 2.2lb=1kg If you lose weight on that try 2g fat and 1g protein per lb of bodyweight.
@egg399. I was advised by dr Berry to move to re-introduction phase after finishing 90 days elimination diet initially for health issues, and it appears that I can never do keto as I get huge water logging after eating carbs from veggies, I can't do greek yoghurt either. Alot of people can comfortably navigate to keto after carni if they preferred, I am not able to so I cancelled the re-introduction phase and continued carni but ankle swelling is next level, not going down.Hope that answers your question.
YEP, and once you get it sorted, there is no going back. I can literally put on 2kgs in one day, even eating less than 1000 calories - if the carbs are say 50 or 60g. I cannot go over 10 -15g of carbs ever or weight just stacks in the most bizarre fashion despite hardly eating anything else. Carnivore is a great quick fix for me, to knock that off over a few days, but more moderate approach if thats too hard, might be a tiny bit of low carb veg if cravings for something sweet. BUT the secret on that is to make sure you eat the 'low carb veg', WITH the fish (salmon is the best) or meat and fat. Does not have to be a massive qty of fat, (if trying to lose weight it still matters) but must be some for satiety and taste. I have about a tsp butter to fry fish/vege. The good protein/high fat litereally diffusses the carbs effect on BS if eaten together as a meal. Who would have thought it! A balanced meal. I have done experiments with a wearable blood glucose monitor on this, the spike is nill (in my case) when I eat like this, combined. If i ate those veges on their own the spike is much greater. Again nothing in excess. I keep those veges under 10gram of carbs. I intermittent fast from 2pm till 8-9am next day.
Thank you so much for explaining what I came to understand what was happening in my body for 40 years and finely was able to curb. But I have another issue you may be able to explain for me. I believe though I eat NO CARBS I wonder if my body is still producing glucose at a level that causes some fluid retention. Perhaps to much protein. I wonder if my body has been addicted for so long it makes its own fix. The only way I seem to be able to stop an event is to fast. I can go for days without eating and not even notice. But the swelling in my feet goes back down and I feel better. Is my body so addicted to glucose I will always just over make my own?
@@robertcywes2966 I was wondering about that and maybe my body is going to take a long time to regulate its need for glucose before it converts fat. Something is causing fluid retention from time to time. Fasting stops it for a month or so.
Carnivore since August 1st. Most of my UC symptoms are gone... Except for the morning. I wish I understood why. No stomach or gut issues all day. It's always morning. I've tried eating earlier in the day. Later in in the day. Right before bed. Don't make any difference. There's something about sleeping that makes me sick... So ofcourse I'm miserable from lack of quality sleep. Cycle goes round and round.
Love and appreciate your content so much! Have been carnivore fpr almost 2 years due to collagenous colitis with D for many years and intolerances to grains, dairy, eggs, bacon and chicken. Symptoms are very much improved but still have daily diarhhea and wonder why if Im exclusively eating ruminant meat with heavy salt added. Could the meat be converting to glucose through gluconeogenisis, and be having the effect of drawing water into the intestines which you explain here in relation to the sugar/salt balance? Or am I missing something? I do drink 2 cups of coffee a day. Thanks again from a fellow South African expat!
@ I cannot remember which video you said if you're overweight it's only your brain who is saying it's hungry. Shouldn't we discretely eat more than once a day for hormone health as a woman?
My elderly mother has for many years experienced optical migraines - she sees the colorful geometric shapes in a chain. Past few years, she's been experiencing debilitating vestibular migraines that cause her world to spin to the point that she cannot stand, and make her vomit. Perhaps she should take some salt when she feels these vestibular migraines coming on?
Hi Doc, thanks for the video. On a somewhat related note, since migraines are caused by swelling up of parts of the brain, what role does the absence of caffeine play in this process? If I don’t have caffeine I get terrible migraines, would salt reduce that as well or is caffeine doing something else to calm the vegas nerve, etc (migraine is always over this region and behind my left eye from caffeine withdrawal). Thanks!
I do not eat a lot of sugar I am on 90% carnivals since July I do have any questions but specifically related to this video you always recommend over salting I was never a salter all my life but I am now except I don't like to do it for meal I take about a half teaspoon of Celtic salt with water and drink it down first thing when I wake up and then I don't salt the rest of the day what are your thoughts about that? And what is a really solid way to get potassium RDA which is super high on a carnivore?

I literally cant eat carbs. Everything i would eat in SAD i was instantly met with swelling and red hands. Carnivore has eliminated all of that.

Too much water. Glucose 'drags' or attracts or pulls water with it. IIUC.
