I installed an Autostop Eliminator for $99 on my 2023 Crosstrek Limited in the first week I bought the vehicle. One of the best auto accessory purchases I’ve ever made.
Regardless of likes or dislikes, the information is great to have. I believe the more I know about my vehicle the greater enjoyment I will attain and therefore value will have a positive affect on my overall ownership! Hope Subaru comes back out with a truck option as I will have one next to my Forester!!!
That is awesome thank you for sharing that cause that’s the one thing I dislike the most the auto start Stop on my previous 2019 Forrester I bought an aftermarket to bypass that. I am the process of getting a 2025 touring and that’s awesome news to know thank you very much.
Hi Alex, Thank you for all the amazing work you do! I recently chose the Subaru Forester as my first car in Canada, and your videos were incredibly helpful throughout the decision-making process. Much appreciated!
I watched a video recently where one of the new metrics for new cars was how long it took to disable all the features. Modern times I guess. I think on a regular/premium Forester you just turn the auto-stop/start off and it stays off. I turned it off and it has not shut down at a stop sign. Several other features are also supposed to be sticky but haven't tested them but will because things like lane detect are just dangerous and while Subaru isn't as aggressive about bumping back into the middle of the lane as other manufacturers they still do it which has put me into near collisions with cyclists and vehicles turning right/left who are swinging wide back into my lane as they make their turn. I also tested to see what would happen if auto-correct was left to it's own devices and the answer is within a few corrections there is a good chance you are going to exit your lane at a pretty aggressive angle either off the road or into oncoming traffic.
They do really need to release the feature you point out here. I can't think of anyone who actually wants to stop/start on by default. I think I've saved a tenth of a gallon once. I try to remember to shut it off, but don't always.
Alex very cool! I got my 2023 Forester Premium to avoid that big screen TV!!! Now a question do you think the 2025 Forester Hybrid will be an option on all trim levels (Premium)? Any idea what Hybrid will add on average to the price? Thanks!!! Cheers, Michael Albuquerque NM USA

I've got a 2022 Outback Premium. I'd love to be able to disable the auto start/stop but I'll be surprised if they apply this to a car that's that old. We'll see. Also, my Outback doesn't have the S and I driving selections. A friend of mine has a 2021 Forester and his car does, but my Outback does not. I've always wonder why that is. I'd love it if Subaru would give us the option to set the transmission to act as a straight CVT without the simulated shifts.

I have a 25 Forester, when I drive over train tracks, a rough spot on highway or over a higher than normal speed bump I hear a single chime. Nothing showes up on the display. Any suggestions, thanks
Just a guess but… could it be the pressure sensor briefly doesn’t see the weight in the seat? When I’m a passenger in my wife’s Ascent and I shift my weight from side to side, the seatbelt chime sometimes dings… not really sure why though.
Hopefully Subaru will roll this out out to the Gen 6 Legacy/Outback which have the same head unit. Having to set these every time I start my car is annoying.
I wish I could somehow set AVH to default: on for my 22 Forester eboxer. It’s usually the first switch I hit after starting the engine. Engine auto off/on can’t be disabled anymore on new cars in the EU afaik.

Thanks. I just tried this on my 25 Subaru Forester Touring and it didn't work. I did not receive a prompt when I entered the car again and it restarted with the defaults. Do I have to go through user recognition again to get this to work?
Sounds like you have the settings adjusted correctly. Just be sure you've changed at least one of these settings: Auto Start/Stop, AVH, or S/I drive and it will prompt you the next time you get in the car.
Explain this to me? My wife has a 23 Ascent. Once AVH is turned on, it stays on even after the car is turned off then back on. In my 23 Outback, AVH resets every time the car is turned off.
@ And that’s another thing that doesn’t make sense. I have a Limited XT, so the same engine as the Ascent Limited, but different features offered. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm not sure how useful this feature would be on the Ascent given AVH stays with last setting, no Auto start/stop, and I don't remember a setting for sport mode.
Is yours a US spec? If so, it will have the auto start/stop on/off switch in the lower left hand side of the touch like you see in my video. It just doesn't have driver focus so you can't remember your last settings like I show in the video.

Every once in a while my carplay stops working for whatever reason on my 2025 outback. Worth a shot.

I will never understand the appeal of auto vehicle hold. You’re driving a car. Keep your foot on the brake when you are stopped. It’s not that hard. If that’s too much effort for you consider taking the bus.
Where's the feature to disable Subaru's, and all other manufacturers, ability to collect & sell my driving habits and other personal data to 3rd parties?
Yes this would be a great update for my 2024 Legacy Touring to eliminate the ASS without paying for the eliminator and potentially screwing up the cameras installing it. I thought using the AVH in conjunction with ASS would be a good thing.. FAIL!!! It will shut the car off when your foot is not on the brake pedal and START the car without your foot on the brake pedal while it is in gear!!! WTF !! Why isnt this a safety issue??? AVH is a safety issue!! IT NEVER GETS TURNED ON!! I HATE IT!! Been driving for 40+ years..Your foot belongs on the brake when at a stop!!! Disengage the AVH by tapping on the accelerator? WRONG!!! Pure stupidity! Also having the ASS start whenever it wants is just as stupid!! It makes the car jerk.. Live in New England.. what if I am on ice? ASS and AVH are stupid shit! ASS prevents auto emissions and saves gas.. whatta crocka shit! You have enough balls to use AVH and ASS sitting at a railway crossing waiting for a train to go by? Hold my beer, I wanna watch.
So this helps in a tiny way but its not enough.Auto stop start is the most annoying warm green fuzz ever.I try to always turn it off when i start the car but forget most of the time and then swear when i pull up somewhere and it turns off.I have had the car for close to 3 months now and the car has been off by this setting for 2 and a bit hours and saved all of 3 litres of fuel if that..What a joke. There i am at the lights with diesel trucks and buses merrily idling away and a Tesla that took who knows how much black energy to produce it and its batteries and unless it was charged off grid or by 100% renewables is just more greenwashing.

I found holding down the volume/power knob down for 10 seconds, which causes the infotainment system to force restart, usually resolves the issue, and once the screen boots back up my phone reconnects automatically. Worth a shot.
@ I give it a try thanks
@@jeffreywaters4778 go to the settings where you would go to add a new phone > select your phone from the device menu > then be sure CarPlay is turned on. Sometimes this will disconnect and switch to Bluetooth.
@@alexpmo thanks Alex I watch your videos all time. I went from a car with hand roll up windows to this new forester. This has so much it’s a bit overwhelming.
@@jeffreywaters4778 I know the feeling! I made a 20 year leap in models myself, and it's a bit overwhelming to me, too!

When is Subaru going to improve their interior lighting, it's dark, horrible, map lights are not user friendly in any way shape or form.
I will never understand the appeal of auto vehicle hold. You’re driving a car. Keep your foot on the brake when you are stopped. It’s not that hard. If that’s too much effort for you consider taking the bus.
@@du3223 it’s helpful at long stops like in traffic. I use it but I can understand it’s not for everyone. I think many find it nice to have
Where's the feature to disable Subaru's, and all other manufacturers, ability to collect & sell my driving habits and other personal data to 3rd parties?
I feel like I’m in the minority here but I really like the auto stop/start.
I've learned to live with it so it doesn't bother me now but many people hate it lol
