Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment too, hearing that always make the time and effort put into producing these videos feel very worthwhile.
I’m in awe of you. You’re not only immensely talented.. but also so humble and thorough when explaining/teaching. I truly hope you know how many people you’re inspiring by the content you’re creating, I personally can’t wait to get back on the wheel and create thanks to you. Also looking forward to hopefully owning one of your pieces one day🤍🤞🏻
Wonderful! Pulling the handle on the pot isn't something I had seen before- only heard of it. I will try it out this week! Thank you! Your efforts to video and explain are much appreciated!
Thanks! It’s a good method I think. It certainly takes some practice but once the basics are learnt it becomes incredibly fast and versatile. Additionally the joins always feel so natural, they flow from the pots in a way that other methods can’t quite replicate.
Just stumbled across your channel, fell in love with your style and calm demeanor. If you haven’t already I think a video of casual pottery with narration of how someone could get into pottery would be an amazing watch!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching. Damp cupboards are wonderful things, I really should allocate some space to one, it would certainly make my life a little easier sometimes!
How my first jug went: centred unevenly Didn’t cone up or down Made air bubbles with metal rib Closed it off, trapping the air Attached the handle without scoring while the body was fresh off the wheel Added the spout unevenly Used too much clay Turned when too dry, with the handle and spout attached Let’s just say I’ll never forget that one jug. I had no idea what I was doing😀 I just thought ‘it can’t go any worse, I may as well learn in the process’ I ended up recycling the clay.
Thanks for sharing! New to watching your channel and will go back to the very beginning of your videos and watch them all in time. Really enjoyed this and noted the plastic under your pots for the final drying process, something that is easy to forget. Cheers and be well!
Your videos are wonderful and you are very good at explaining what you are doing, I wish you will continue making these videos for a long time! I have started to regret that I didn't take any pottery classes in high school when I would have had chance to take some, even to this day I have a beautiful "elephant leg" candle holder that I made before high school that I use everyday.
Hi! Thanks for making this videos they are my inspiration to one day try pottery. Also, they are the best for sleeping, I bet this Chanel will grow fast. Wish you luck!
I have bought a Shimpo RK 55 potter's wheel and will be practicing cylinders until I perfect it like yours. Will be going through all your videos again as reference and learn everything you shared. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and skill 😊
Best of luck! I've spent hundreds of hours on one of those wheels. Thanks as always for taking your time to watch and don't let the cylinders get you down, destroyed cylinders equal results.
I have a video all about my apprenticeships and things, if you haven’t seen that it may be useful! I could do a video about applying and attending the DCCO course though, it was honestly the best decision I ever made, it’s like the Hogwarts of the pottery world.
@@floriangadsby I've watched your previous video about your apprenticeships and found it so interesting and Id love to know more about applying to the dcci course. You've thoroughly gotten me interested in pottery which id only done a little bit of in school with hand building techniques and I'm attending a short course later this year but I really want to know more about further education for ceramics specifically. You've really inspired me to try this different form of creativity as I mostly have done other crafts before.
i've been watching your videos for for my own reference but i was never really good at the pulling part. However, recently i came to the realization that my hands were on the wrong side this whole time. Whenever i watch pottery videos, the camera would always be across from the potter and their hands would be on the left side. so i would mimic this: pulling on the left side of the pot even though the wheel is spinning counterclockwise lolol. Im going to need to relearn pulling from the correct side now
I absolutely love your esthetic. You are certainly a true professional. Would it be possible to get an approximate height to throw this piece. Not sure I can get it to the height you make them with 12 ounces, but would like to try. Thanks so much for your faithfulness to your channel.
Thank you William, I don't have my notebook with me at home but I think they're approximately 17.5/18cm tall, but I may be really wrong 😬 I'll get back to you with a more accurate measurement.
Thank you for your videos, they’re inspiring. Curious how many ounces or grams of liquid do they hold. Trying to get a scale of quantity based on how much you started with and the final size. TY.
For volume, you use litres (and its prefixed variants), as different substances have different density. A ml of water is 1 g, whereas the same volume of oil tends to be about 0.9 g.
At the moment I’m using 16mm birch ply. It isn’t perfect, it warps occasionally do I have to flip the boards and use both sides. Then, if they get too bad I just place them over my heaters and they seem to even out again. I’m sure there are better types of wood to use, marine grade ply could be good. I’ve also seen ware boards made with lengths of wood or even metal attached on the underside, to keep them straight and to provide an area to lift them up from, as they’re slightly suspended above the table.
Do you sell these? If so, how profitable is it? Do your creations go to stores like Target, Ross, etc? Are you one of those famous potters? How did you get into pottery? What keeps you going? How do you make money to afford everything? This is super interesting and I’d love to learn more.
I do sell them, like Karyn said, only through my own website though or via Make, Hauser & Wirth, in Somerset, which is a gallery. Never in places like Target or Ross, in fact, those shops don’t exist in the UK. It’s quite profitable! But it’s also a huge about of work, I do everything myself. If you’d like to learn more about how I got into the craft I recommend watching my “All About my Apprenticeships” video, it’ll explain my journey from a student up until the present day.
It's just the way I do it, no other reason really, I feel the tapped out end provides me with more material to smear into the mug nicely. It also helps get the top join I like, which flows out from a right angle.
Dude thank you for spending ur time filming

I'm gonna binge watch this. Perfect for a rainy, stormy day...
I was not expecting an upload from Florian today! What a treat.
It looks like you've been really busy preparing for the exhibition.
I ended up making two videos last weekend, so at least I'll have next weekend off - why do I do this to myself. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for sharing your work! It helps a lot for a 2 years learner and now I have a damp box to store the handles too.

Thank you so much for these videos. They really help with my anxiety
Thanks for this excellent demonstration and explanation!
How my first jug went:
centred unevenly
Didn’t cone up or down
Made air bubbles with metal rib
Closed it off, trapping the air
Attached the handle without scoring while the body was fresh off the wheel
Added the spout unevenly
Used too much clay
Turned when too dry, with the handle and spout attached
Let’s just say I’ll never forget that one jug. I had no idea what I was doing😀

Thank you so much for sharing I really enjoy your throwing videos and your detailed instructions God Bless

Id love to know more about how you applied for DCCI and you education experience! XX love the videos

This might be a dumb question, but is there a particular type of wood you use for your boards?

Hi again loved the vid I would love a heart and a hi back

Florian what kind of clay do you use

He sells online. His last sale was sold out in less than 10 minutes after going live.

Is there a reason that you tap out the the handle rather than pull or smear the top apart?

when you said 340 grams. I was like gasping... lol.
bring back the diddler!
It’s gone! And it’s never coming back!
Where are u from?
