Thanks for this tutorial. I need to use this process myself, and your information was most helpful.

After much experimentation and video watching, I accomplished similar results but your mention of the resistance element is new to me and much appreciated. Placing a “resistor” in a different location that between the face of your negative plate and the target object appears to net quicker results than covering the plate with felt or other absorbent material and having to dab and move it around for up to 8 minutes (at 15v and 3a DC for material removal). Could you tell me the name of or where to obtain the stencil material you are using? It appears to be good for only one use.

How large of an area do you think you could do at once?

I've done steel sheets that were at least 3' by 5' using a kiddie pool.

    dear MASON DIXON,
thanks for perfect video! But what do you mean AC from same power source? I mean there is no video how you connecting AC for marking. Is this same power source? what have you changed when going from DC to AC? I mean your same transformer. It's little bit tricky "Connect art piece to + but after connect AC (alternate power current). Does it means when you using AC metal some way getting blackening (just electrochemically?)
    Thanks once more!

Rope, Look at the video (~1:04) at the top of the Tyco transformer you can see 'DC Track Only (+/-) and AC Accessories Only'. There is two screw connection on the back side of the Tyco transformer. If you are using DC you connect your etcher to those two terminals; if you are using AC you connect your etcher to those two connections. For DC +/- is important for AC it is not. You can get these (Tyco transformers) off of Ebay for ~$15- $20. Hope this helps. Don't know where "mason dixon " is.

Better using a cotton bud not flat steel , it gets into the etch ,

I'm pretty sure the electrolyte has no problem getting down into the etch.
