This figure has lots of problems (the BST AXN line as whole does) but the fact that this is at a lower price point and has more sculpt work, accessories, and arguably nicer paint than the average marvel legends figure is something I find to be both hilarious and very very sad.
If you’ve followed this line like other people then you’d know this shredder along with the 4 turtles that go with this shredder have come a long way. The scale is correct according to other reviewers that favor tmnt and the sculpt and articulation are far superior than any of their previous figures
@@johnb.8977 I’m well aware of that, the new IDW stuff is much better than the classic turtle stuff they did years ago, that being said just because they’re better doesn’t mean they’re perfect or even amazing, not by a long shot. This shredder has issues as the video pointed out & the turtles have their own issues with wonky/ugly joints and some QC stuff. But that being said they’re still an improvement and that’s promising for the line overall.
@@NordicWiseguyI think the saddest part isn’t just that the marvel legends fans defend Hasbro’s lazy garbage, but that genuinely consider marvel legends to be standard for action figures in general, or at least for domestic stuff anyway.
@@justicemagnum5242 Hasbro only cares about Transformers. Marvel legends isn't their main priority. Their quality have gone down but prices have gone up. It's ridiculous.
Very good and honest review as usual. The main selling points for these figures imo are probably the price point in general (albeit still a little too high for the quality or rather lack of) and that they're the only TMNT figures based on the long-running IDW comics if I'm not mistaken, which is a somewhat clever business idea provided that they either increase the quality or reduce the price by a couple of dollars.
I don’t see $22 as meaningfully better than $26 if it’s smaller, has bizarre engineering and joint cuts, and suffers from really odd proportions. Legends have issues, but having handled both they are definitely $3-$4 better than BST AXN. The IDW Turtles might be an exception, but that’s a toss up…and it’s not like Legends is a great value lol
You know, I bought the Shredder In Hell version of this figure several weeks ago and I decided to unbox him. Not even 5 minutes out of the box and his left hip snaps right off with zero effort involved. It got me upset because I now have a broken Shredder figure that I really wanted to keep. I liked the detail and the golden armor he had. There's no point in trying to repair it, so off to the garbage bin he went. I got it on clearance at Walmart for $17, so at least I didn't pay a lot for it. To have a figure break so easily like that... you have to be kidding me. It's a good thing I didn't deep dive into this figure line.
I have their cartoon-styled Turtles. I like them because they scale perfectly with 6" figures, but the human characters in the line are too short (they're basically the same height as the Turtles, which is wrong). They're clearly not on par with NECA or SHF figures, but not everyone can afford those and it's nice that BST AXN gives even those on a tight budget (like me) the option to have some '87 Turtles representation on their shelf, even if you are having to put up with some iffy paint and janky articulation.
Thank you so much for putting him next to Darwin! So far you are the only one who gave me a decent idea of the scale of this figure. I've been looking for a decent height comparison picture for a month now. I love the look, though I'm kinda bummed out he doesn't scale with ML. This would be my first Loyal subjects figure and I'm still doubting. I wanted this figure with the conviction that it desperately needs a cloth wired cape. Now that I see the articulation in action, I have strong second thoughts on getting it alltogether. I can no longer unsee that long torso now. Looks like I'll have to hunt down the Power Rangers Shredder/Green Ranger figure instead, though it also has its flaws.
This line is incredibly mediocre, their larger figures should cost $25 max with base figures closer to $12-$15. At $20 base price and continually creeping up, it's a hard pass, particularly because they are way too brittle to be effective kids toys. The QC issues make these a pass for me at even Ross prices under $10.
Yeah bst axn seems to have a problem with bicep swivels, my IDW Michaelangelo has a very loose one, I almost snapped it off trying to move his shoulder.
This Shredder’s only real utility is if you have the pretty decent first set of 2012 Nick Playmates turtles (which only retailed for like 5-8 bucks iirc, I got mine for 4.99 each a few years ago at a discount store), cuz it seems like he’ll scale with those okay and be much better than the Shredder from their own line but that’s a very niche use case for this figure lol Engineering is horrible on these figures
I got this figure to go into my Random Villian Nostalgia shelf. Bummed he is so tiny. Was really hoping it was as big as Marvel Legends at least. Still a pretty cool looking figure though, but I may have to find somewhere else to display him. I also thought about using the extra unmasked head for Stormshadow from GI Joe but the skin color is soooooo much lighter.
I agree with you, not only with this figure but the whole line and toy company in general. Just feels like they're new and still figuring things out. But even Neca was like that at one point and look at them now. I think I'll wait until these guys figure some things out and make better versions of these characters a few years down the line. (If they're still around by then.)
I know bst axn has issues but and quality wise they are the best but especially here in the Uk they are pretty cheap. Got the shredder/foot and tmnt four pack for like £30
They've been making improvements, but they're still making these weird decisions (like you pointed out: Bicep cut and the diaphragm joint being the worst for me). I don't know why they busted out the gate calling their line "BEST ACTION" when they couldn't even get some standards down and still have a long way to go, but I guess there's something to be said for confidence. And hey, they ARE improving, little by little. Some companies don't even do that. So i gotta give them something.
I would say a 6-7 is fair for all the IDW figures so far. I was really hopeful, and it is very nice to have IDW comic figures. They are great to have for that spot in my collection. However, I really hope we get a better offering of the current IDW TMNT>
I bought the gray colored Turtles 4 pack on an impulse. I returned them since a lot of the weapons and joints felt like they could break at any moment. I'm happy just buying the releases of those 80s TMNT figures
So far I just like the idw turts, overall fun figs, I modded them a bit and gave mikey like real chain chucks and fixed some paint apps. Their super shredder has some decent sculpting too but they need to fix the retention in their leg joints. They are so loose. I love the donny fig with the armored shell, really well done part of that fig. Visually I do like their cartoon toka and razzar too but I dont own them. So they still have lots of room for improvements but I think they will get there. I do love their silver paint apps, way better than hasbro,
I tested one of these. I went with Leo. I figured if I chose not to get any more, Leo looked cool enough and was my favorite turtle. I may get Don is Amazon ever has a deal. So yeah that neck joint...smh..same. Leo gets away with the bicep joint. I had a feeling a human character would not. The knees are not the best looking when bending (But does not bother me too much. But that's something they need to work on. what nags me is you cannot push the foot on the turtle forward up. My neck too and a 90s movie...LOL, they have single-arm joints yet I feel like I can still get them in better poses. I mean it's not terrible articulation. But its not good. I'll just toss Leo up with the street fighter figures for fun. It's gonna be a while to fill that Streetfighter shelf out anyway. But yeah. Also, I have to be careful with Leo's swords. it feels like it could break easily. I was considering getting their new Super Shredder........pffft I have the Neca movie one I'm good. I was not going to buy all four. I got the Krang with the robot body from then just to have a krang. And that one is okay for what it is. But enough to tell me to tread lightly and just get one.
I wonder if the Shredder comic bundle figure would have a little bit of a better quality. I really want to get this figure but don't wanna waste money for it to break.
My leg popped out of joint immediately after opening. (Mine can't even come close to doing a split or sitting.) I popped it back in, but it can't really do anything but stand now. Glad to know I'm not alone!
The torso looks like a tubular line to me. No lats and a flat chest. For $22 I feel like we can expect more. That’s just $2 less than the Joes. Accessories are definitely a win though, like that. And the silver paint.
I’ve been so tempted to buy a few of these because of the cool designs, but I’ve seen too many reviews like yours that show too many flaws and most the lack of articulation.
I'm actually happy that they made this Shredder, it's my favorite out of all of them. What I'm not happy about is the fact that a handful of people have broken theirs straight out of the box. I get that their quality has been dog shit for the most part, but the IDW bros are perfect and yet, this Shredder seems to be way worse than the ones before. They plan to keep expanding this line with future releases already "leaked", but my worries are if they're gonna keep being as bad in quality as this Shredder, or as good as the brothers!?
Picked up the comic ver. Got it for 15 bucks at wally world. Had i paid full price i would have returned it. But its good enough and looks good with my neca turtles. Hes actually just tall enough to fit in.
I got them for display mainly. The Leonardo is pretty decent to pose but still not great. The accessories and details are pretty solid. Donnie is also pretty cool, but Raphael isn’t great.
You think this is bad, the animated Beetlejuice has a mid torso cut that goes through a Jacket and Tie! What??? The guy behind TLS is super nice though and the bst axn Krang rocks!
This looks like a stylized/cartoon version of the face. Are these monster eyes or they are not colored? I can’t tell? And the helmet design is not working for me.
Shredder is supposed to be intimidating, but he is still an average height Japanese guy. So just being 6 inches tall works against a bunch of 5 inch turtles. BST's plastic, articulation, and quality control are garbage. It's a shame, because their sculpts, accessories, and price are fantastic. I think the figures are in this scale for the same reason Diamond Select figures are 7 inches with limited articulation. Playmates doesn't wants them to compete with their turtles. So they have to be a different scale, and not in the toy section, but that's just a theory.
Just stand it there and don't look at it at all. A glowing recommendation. Reminds of a time my friend tried to hook me up on a blind date. Just don't look at her and you'll have a great time. Hard pass.
No I haven't. If that's how they chose to design shredder that's good with me. Speaking from my perspective a fan of the shows and movies just not my cup of tea. I love what the comics did with shredder as a power ranger that still felt authentic to me.
