If cheapest way to build these wasn't one amp central amp there'd be an amp in each speaker. In fact, I refuse to buy any powered speakers that are not wholly self-amplified. A lot of folks don't mind the central amp build, look at Klipsh's range of wireless speakers. I only buy powered monitors with the amplifier in each speaker...and I've bought a few because at their best this is the "biggest bang for the buck in audio".
Why can't they have amplifier in each speaker? Have a cable lower the output on that speaker
