Great video - thanks for sharing! I've seen this rig or similar in a few videos. I was wondering -- since the leader sits on a slip float, does this mean that the fish has ran at least the distance from the bait to the weight at the end of the line before the rod starts to bend? Just trying to wrap my head around it and wanted to know the benefits over putting your bait under a fixed float. Is this set up popular to keep multiple anglers' lines more or less in place when everyone's on the pier? Thanks!
As soon as the fish hits and moves the rod bends since the swivel is resting on the bobber and can’t go further. It’s popular because it suspends the bait while preventing drifting. Thanks for watching!
Haven't seen any Skams off the piers in a couple weeks now, surprised y'all are still on them. But they're being caught at the dams now, just watched one get caught on the Rogue yesterday and some on the Muskegon over the weekend. Seen a fishing charter on the Grand as well, apparently they're up to 6th St. as well
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 You and me both. Hit 2 fish walking out with a hot n tot in GH this weekend and lost both, then nothing for 3 hours after. Been weird lately, only place that's been consistent for me is deep water on the big lake
So what do you consider the right conditions? I’m from Ohio and would like to head up but I don’t know what you mean by the right conditions is it the wind direction or what?
So if I try this same technique do you think it would work down by the Milwaukee harbor too? Because I did not know there is steel head up by shore this time of year
hitting up a pier this weekend on lake huron, its about ten-15 feet deep, i wanna try this rig. how long should my leader be? thank you and i subscribeds
Depends on what depth you want to fish. This time of year people are mainly fishing bottom I believe so this rig may not be the best. If you want to try this rig tho, just keep changing leader lengths until something starts working. Good luck 👍
Hey love your videos just got into salmon and steelhead fishing pretty hard last year always did steelhead but now I do everything. I fish northern Michigan on the west side I was going to try some scammin I’ve hooked a few in the rivers but not on the pier. Looking to get some lamiglas x11s but didn’t know what model would be good for pier scammin? Also do you fish your shrimp cooked or cured or just normal?
Nice job, also I have a question almost every time I cast this rig the swivel always gets stuck and never follows the float (btw I am using the exact same swivel as you)
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 okay the only annoying about that is if I make a really long cast my swivel will probably get stuck halfway which causes my shrimp not going out that far
@@yummy9731 as long as ur lines in the water where ur swivel is it’ll still be at the same depth. Maybe let some slack out if its being pulled outta the water
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 thanks for the reply. My wife @JamCel and I are planning to come up to Michigan in late September. We might give it a try one day from the pier instead of fishing in the river.
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 I don’t understand or respect these types of useless responses. Do you think if you share the name of the pier you fish all the fish will be taken out of Lake Michigan? 👎🏽
@@jaysmith6013 nope, but you’ll show up with 100ppl shoulder to shoulder, leaving trash all over. Every pier in Lake Michigan gets fish, no point in name dropping where you are. They all fish about the same
Once the weight hits the bottom, the float slowly rises up pushing the bait up to the water surface. The float has much to do with rate of which the bait rises.

Really cool rig! I've never seen anything like it, but I'm going to try it during my next trip to the great lakes!
I don’t know that there are prettier fish than those summer steelhead. Love those fish off the piers! Nice video!
Sure hard to beat the fresh colors!

We are new to fishing in Michigan. We will be summer pier fishing in Manistee, Mi. What size rod and spinner real combo would you recommend using?
You don’t need anything fancy for pier fishing. Get a rod at least 9ft and any spinning reel 2000 size or bigger will be fine👍
You guys are awesome. Great videos.
Preciate that man!

Yup lotta fish in the river rn for sure. Hoping the wind changes and we can get a little more pier luck

Just cold water towards shore. Usually based off of wind direction
Bout time foote started fishing

I don’t understand what prevents this rig from going all the way to the bottom? Where is your bobber stop?
Your leader sits on your float, which floats to the top. So length of leader is your depth 👍
Which pier was this?
So if I try this same technique do you think it would work down by the Milwaukee harbor too? Because I did not know there is steel head up by shore this time of year
Yes the same technique will work! It’s all based on water temp
When fishing this method, does the fish set itself or do you have to be watching it like bobber fishing? Thinking of trying this in Washington state
It prettt much sets for you just pick up and reel, rod will fold over in the holder
@@sbsoutdooraction3055 nice!!! I wanna try it with steelhead here in Washington using coon 🦐
