I can't get any neurologist who can agree on a diagnosis. One told me it was charcot Marie tooth, and I did meet some distant relatives with the same issues. Another says it's not that, it may have started as length dependent but is consistent with small fiber. I just so fed up with these, 24 hours a day, vibrations and fasciculations, feet, calves, hip shoulder. They're harmless but they are constant and ruining my life. It all started with Lipitor, before that I had mild neuropathy, 3 years straight I keep hoping they will stop but they are spreading and getting worse. Wish I had a neurologist who saw me more than half an hour a year, who thinks everything my previous neurologists said was wrong. I'm so fed up.
Thankyou. I have fasciculations along with shooting pain, spasms and cramps all over my body especially the throat /tongue , neck, limbs and chest. I also have numbness and weakness. It was previously diagnosed as hemiplegic migraines however that diagnosis was made with no tests. I'm finally having tests so hope to find cause.
Do not know if the two are connected but I developed outer thigh/outer calf fasciculations in the aftermath of recovery from a sciatic episode in 2017. Brought by compressing the sciatic nerve via too much pressure with a TP ball, as trying to get rid of an upper glute trigger point. Managed to improve outer thigh fasciculation with scraping technique. The outer calf not so much although the intensity of the outer calf fasciculations are nowhere near as strong or problematic as when first started. What was odd was that I started to get months/years after fasciculations began to start on the inner calf...and the intensity increased there as the outer calf intensity lessened. NHS after MRI focused on old L5-S1 nerve disc tear and that fusion, pain killers or live with it, as only options. Told em I've managed disc tear for years fine with nothing more than a bit of neural tension. Seemed over focused on structural issue vs poss soft tissue restrictions somewhere. Tried aggressive scraping therapy. Tried osteopath..Tried trad physio..none had desired effect or were able to confirm if nerve entrapped/irritated somewhere along the pathway.
Hi! I have this, although it used to be more sporadic is has been a little more consistent lately.I’m gonna be put on SSRIs/SNRIs for anxiety and I was wondering,is there a possibility that they make the twitching worse?
I have had calf muscle pain and twitching for over 2 years. All started after a flu vaccine oddly enough. I have been to a neurologist multiple visits. Brain and spine MRI were normal. So was an EMG and an ultrasound of my legs. My VGKC and vitamin B6 were high but retested and came back normal. No diagnoses for me. Desperate to figure this out!
One type of Peripheral Neuropathy is Motor Neuropathy. This can be caused by toxic effects of many common medications and even vaccines. The best option is to do a detox (ua-cam.com/video/k0O6r7OSC-A/v-deo.html) of some sort. Often this is all that is needed to help this type of problem.
This is exactly the way my diagnoses kind of went. I have the muscle twitching in my legs, arm and some times even the side of my head. My metabolic panels and blood work all come out normal accept I do read 100 mg of blood sugar levels, but my doctors seem to think its not a cause for concern and likely with that low level, would not be the culprit behind what is causing my BFS. I did have 3 EMG's and they diagnosed me with poly neuropathy but no signs of visible nerve damage and they said the results are very low for it to be a cause for concern. I also had a MRI and Xrays of my legs to rule out any possible blood clots, tumors, etc. I serously doubt alot of these doctors some times though because to me its deffinitly lessoned my quality of life. I never had this until 4 years ago and all the sudden i got it and im 38 years old. I am really not sure what to do about it at this point. Other people also explained that that no pain occures but clearly for me it does over time. My legs start to feel a bit sore after all the twitching. Should I be worried about this and what other tests or treatments can i do.
Twitching is definitely a problem as the muscle will fatigue and can cause pain (as you have found). From your history above it looks like many questions. You have peripheral neuropathy based on EMGs and you have symptoms that make even a low level concerning. I would start looking for treatment options. A normal EMG can be present (yours wasn't normal) even with small fiber sensory neuropathy, motor neuropathy and autonomic neuropathy. More tests should be run to rule out these. With a normal metabolic panel, it doesn't rule out vitamins as a cause. Vitamin D for example needs to be at the high end of normal, not just in the range. Vitamin B12 can be in normal range, but still be too low for the nerves. If you get a homocysteine level from the blood that is higher, it means you need more Vitamin B12. And blood sugar effects on nerves should be tested with hemaglobin A1C not just blood sugars. That will tell you if your average blood sugars are spiking.

@@NeuropathyDoctor Thank you for reply. I don't know if I suffer from neuropathy, but I suffer from heaviness in my feet and both legs. I cannot move them. It lasts for minutes and then goes away.
Hey, I’m 29, a former Marine, one day after taking Claritin D my left tricep started to twitch, it quickly spread to my whole body and seems to favor different areas at different times. It has persisted for 3 months now. Magnesium, vitamin D and electrolytes don’t seem to help. Caffeine aggravates. I saw a neurologist 3 months ago, but she didn’t detect clinical weakness at that time, only blood was taken- since it’s the VA I got the gold standard of care and haven’t heard back since. I recently took my bike out and my legs got tired extremely fast. I haven’t kept in great shape but it was an 8 minute ride and they felt depleted. Should I be worried about this, or is the weakness associated with ALS different? I have not noticed any specific muscle waste but I am fairly thin naturally. I have a two year old daughter. Though I have gotten pretty good at not worrying about this and assuming it is BFS, the continuous twitching sometimes causes me to become deeply worried that I am already in the jaws of something sinister. Recently I have started to have unexplained pain in my extremities that is usually short lived but is not relieved by any movement etc. Any insight, unofficial as it would be, would be deeply appreciated.
Perceived muscle weakness, muscles getting tired quickly and even muscle twitching can be symptoms of multiple disease processes including motor neuropathy. Often the symptoms present before clinical weakness is seen. Further evaluation for Peripheral Neuropathy is recommended. Another option would be to try detox of some sort. Many medications can cause a toxic neuropathy or toxic presentation to some of the peripheral nerves (damaging the nerve cells). Through a detox process you will often see improvement.
Hi @Neurophysiology. I hope you are well. Going off topic quickly, is Benign Fasiculation syndrome a brain disorder? And what can be the causes? It’s just about 6 months ago I caught covid, and about a week later I took ketamine for the first time. 2 days later I woke up with involuntary twitching and myclonic jerks. A few days later it went, but the one thing that happened a few days after that, and has stuck ever since, is that both of my calves constantly twitch at rest, and it led me to having a mental breakdown. I paid to see a private neurologist and he told me that it is all anxiety related, as I am scared that using drugs once has ruined my whole life. I had an emg on my calves and it came back clear. Of course I’m not asking for medical advice over the internet. But in your opinion, do u think this can go away? And would something like Botox be a suitable treatment? Thanks
Fasciculations can be caused by more than just motor neuropathy. For example there are medications that can cause it. The big thing is to help determine the cause and treat that. In so doing you will resolve the fasciculation problem.
VITAMIN WATER zero sugar has done trick for me. I've been drinking 1-2 bottles of vitamin water every day for the last 3 months and my spams have been entirely eliminated, I went a few days without drinking it and started to get spams.
Is there any way nutritionally to reduce the level or acetylcholine or glutamate? Or reuptake of acetylcholinesterase? Or what can be done to the calcium, sodium or potassium channels?
Some common nutrients that may help reduce acetylcholine and glutamate include Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and magnesium (which also reduces muscle cramping). Vitamin D is also a powerful down regulator for calcium channels.

I know how you feel the last month or two its started to drive me crazy I rarely cry but it has gotten to that point and more . All I can tell you is see a doctor and try to do things to keep your mind off it .
Hi how are you doing now
@@leemin569 im alive 😅 I had magnesium deficiency. Started taking magnesium citrate and in 2 days it was gone.
I twitch all over my body, also have burning, numbness, tingling, internal vibrations and some cramping too off snd on. For three days I had terrible weakness in my legs with the cramping but my legs are no longer today feeling that weak , so I’m thinking not als but only because I think with als once you have clinical weakness it stays, isn’t intermittent . Not sure if clinical weakness found in als can be “felt” as a perceived weakness can be.
Lyn I have all them symptoms too .started 2 years ago twitching all over then the burning tingling in my back my arms and legs .do you have any idea what's causing yours
I have also. Started 7 months ago, with my right leg starting to shake while driving. A few weeks later my left leg stated to hurt and muscles stated to twitch and 2 days later my leg started to hurt imcredibly much, i could do other than scream and cry my eyes out and it became paralyzed in 3 weeks and noone knows why. The twitching spread first to my right leg and then to my stomach, arms, eardrums, face etc and now it twitches so much that I wake up several Times every night, and at the morning my whole body shakes. Also have numbness, tingeling and weakness and cant coordinate my left leg. I hate to dont have any idea why this is happening, ive seen several doctors and my mri of my brain and spine are normal:(
@@simoncowell2694 Since you are two years in, I think you should have peace. And know it’s not als. I’m only five monthis in, so still scared. I think it’s neuropathy related as I get the numbness and burning, and also internal vibration .I have lupus and personally I feel it’s attacking my nerves like it seems to attack almost everything else in my body,it is hard not having a diagnosis but since fasiculations are lower motor signs, so this scares us all as to ALS anyone two years into it This and doesn’t have loss of limb function , should Rest In Peace they don’t have Motor neuron diseases

Hi any update
Sir, I had rabid dog bite exposure 3 months ago. I had taken the prompt post exposure prophylaxis (with immunoglobulin) but for the past 80 days or so my body starts twitching anywhere. Can feel pins and needles too.
Sir could it be rabies or stress//anxiety symptoms?
@Ashish Tonk bro I still feel it but very less
@Ashish Tonk doctors said may be that area tissues are damaged
Can stress cause fasciculations in different parts of body muscle? I mean not only the eyelids.
Hi, did you get any answers
Yes off course
Is it true that after months of body-wide twitching without presenting weakness, should rule out MNDs?
It is always a good idea to determine the cause. Only then can appropriate treatment be started.
My fascikulations is worst at the early morning, does that tell someone something?
My sickness started with shaking in my right leg 7 months ago, then 3 weeks later fascikulations and severe pain started in my left leg and it became paralyzed from knee down, but only when i stood up, and the pain also got much worse when i stood up. The fascikulations spread to my right leg and then up to my arms, face etc, and every morgning i shake so much from my fascikulations that I cant barley sleep. And when i flex my neck i also get fascikulations. Also have muscle weakness in my left leg still (but the pain and paralyzis only lasted for 3 weeks) Mri of brain and spine is normal, and my neurologist have no idea whats going on and said that she will soon discharge me cuase she has no idea what to do. :( i have done some bloodwork, and lucocytes, gt and calcium is a bit higher than normal, but nothing alarming she said. Dont know that to do. :(
As with all types of peripheral neuropathy, motor neuropathy (which this is most likely) will have periods of worse and better presentations. Usually early morning or late night are when symptoms are the worst.
@Ansh Bawa no :( did a new mri and found several brainlesions and inflammation in my central nervous system. Im going blind and still no one has any clue whats wrong with me. :( they say that thats nothing they can do than just another mri in 2 months and hope that the new mri gives more clues. -.- so frustrating :(
Well, it seams like i finally might have i diagnose! At least they will treat me for NMO, but the bloodresults should come in soon. Can barley believe it 😭❤️
@@shadesofdespair6437 I started muscle twitching 2 mths ago, now it's all over. I also have a brain lesion. Worry now, I'm so tired I'm on a sick leave.
How are you doing?
@@bartsampson4325 oh, im so sorry :/ im also really tired, but can manage to work 3 hours every day atleast, so im greatful for that. Have a few days every months when im not so tired, but I spend alot of time in bed.
My results for nmo came back negative, and the meds im on doesnt work, the lesions keep growing alot. So dont know what the next step is. I workout with a team every week to build up my function i my leg and balance so I hope for results soon :)
Do you have any idea whats wrong? Do you know what type of lesion you have?
I suffer from muscle twitching and spasm and it affects my heart I feel irregular heartbeat
The muscle twitching is usually the motor neuropathy associated with peripheral neuropathy, but this is only one type of peripheral nerve that can be affected. Autonomic nerves can also be, which could directly influence the heartbeat. If you think this may be a problem, it would be beneficial to further evaluate your condition. @@NeuropathyDoctor Thank you for reply. I don't know if I suffer from neuropathy, but I suffer from heaviness in my feet and both legs. I cannot move them. It lasts for minutes and then goes away.
Hi is twitching the first of Als
How r u now plllllzzz pllllzzzzz REPLY
@Ansh Bawa no brother facing same problem
I have read that BFS can cause some weakness
@producedbyFYI Thank you for this encouragement!! I know it was intended for me but I needed it right now for sure.
Thanks
Hi, Just wondering if you have any updates with your symptoms and how you are feeling? We have very similar symptoms.
I have epilepsy
With fasciculations
What should i do????
Im on AED
Fasciculations can be caused by more than just motor neuropathy. For example there are medications that can cause it. The big thing is to help determine the cause and treat that. In so doing you will resolve the fasciculation problem.
