You found an angel brother. Damo saw everything you now are, and more. I honestly and sincerely look up to you, every day. I'm about 5 years behind you in admission, reality and guilt. Thank you for everything. I'm stuck in the corporate world, paying off a mortgage, paying bills in the western world, supporting a family with all their collective demands, and it's really, really tough. Your ongoing development and progression, spiritually, mentally and personally is nothing short of amazing. Thank you, brother.

Great vlog. Damo’s insight into that era of your lives was very interesting and you could see that she was really speaking from the heart. Today she was also very articulate, more so than on other topics where she just jokes around. Very impressed!😊❤

I was a very heavy drinker up until the age of about 38 , my every day was about having a drink, and it was crazy . Im 51 now and don't drink or smoke at all , i find that my mind is so much cleaner now . Drinking can be so overrated ..

This was an inspirational video mate. It’s so lovely to see how Damo has supported you through all your struggles. Now you have a beautiful family together. I lost my little sister due to Alcoholism. She was only 38 years old when she died. It broke my heart ♥️. I am also a fellow musician. Played in bands for many years. I also learned to play the saxophone 🎷. Very badly 😊. I wish you all the family all the best and happiness mate. I watch your videos on both channels. Love the content. Always interesting. Thanks for your willingness to share. I started drinking at age 13 and didn't stop until Covid put me out of business at age 64, lost my car, had no money and couldn't afford alcohol. Sobriety saved us!.. so grateful to find this peace in my life.. what I've gained in the last 22 years of sobriety is phenomenal.. it's huge.. it's a game changer.. I also did counseling and in the beginning I did 3 years of solid AA meetings which gave me so many tools to maintain my sobriety.. I also don't like the term 'recovering' as I think it keeps you in that low vibe.. grateful to be where we are right now.. happily married and living off grid in the mountains.. life is good.. love to you guys.. you're a dream team and it's a pleasure to share these experiences with you.. life is good🥰💜🦋🥀🐝

Thank you for your honesty. You truly are a beautiful couple.
I can relate totally as I have been struggling with alcohol for the last 40 years after being in the forces which is a great foundation to teach you how to drink! When I left the forces. I got into the double glazing industry in its infancy and money was abundant so the drinking carried on, I lost my wife and my children through alcohol which made me drink more. I am two weeks dry and I have had spells of it in the past but I know if I do not stop that it will kill me soon. I hope to be around to maybe come and spend my last days in Thailand with a big smile on my face. I did a month in Thailand last year totally dry and I had a fantastic time. I started again when I got home because I missed the place so much and was very depressed. I have to try and carve a future for myself without alcohol, every day is a big struggle but I am determined it will not beat me. Keep up the great work guys and I think I speak for all of us when I say we love following your journey.
    Take good care guys.
    Ade

I didn’t know you had this channel but was subscribed to (The Naked Guru) so I subscribed to this channel and this is the first video I’ve watched.
Alcohol and Muso’s go hand in hand.
Many famous musicians past and present are addicted to Alcohol.
You have nothing to be ashamed about.
I loved the old photos of both of you they were really cool.
The best thing that happened to you from what I can see is you met (A good Woman)
I reckon you’re a good bloke and would have loved to have a beer with you in your heyday.
I’m far from a greenie but I like your organic self meaning appearance how you live and where you’ve come from to where you are today.
Muso’s are different creatures from the rest of us anyway and that’s quite alright with me as I live music.
Look forward to the next vids from both channels.

This video on How a partner/siblings/parents etc are affected by substance misuse demonstrates really good insight into the varying ways to help the substance misuser. Damo comes across as empathetic and sincere whilst also juggling her own feelings on it. She is definitely not an enabler and didn't compromise on her own values and beliefs. Whilst she clearly loves you she had boundaries set and developed to ensure all those involved and affected didn't alter those boundaries and didn't become accepting of the alcohol and behaviours that ran alongside it. She made sure that there would be consequences if you had carried on drinking heavily. You have a lovely relationship based on openess and honesty. 🤗

I stated business travel rather young at age of 19. Enjoyed it very much. Working hard in installing machines and servicing them.
Part of it was having dinner with co-workers and of course drinking beer. Never saw it as a problem (for me).
Couple of years down the road I stated seeing negative effects of this live style on others.
This not being able to just have one beer with dinner, shaking hands in the morning till after they disappeared around the corner.
Senseless mumbling for themselves even though you are right next sitting to them. They still performed well but …
I started getting worried because back the days it was still much more acceptable drinking every day as part of socializing.
Many years later and I moved to Asia for extended period after having been working with clients in Asia for more than 15 years.
Interesting job to head an office and build a subsidiary of an European company. Loads of work hours and even more socializing drinking as part of the business. And smoking of course as well. After less than 6 years that period ended.
Went back with my wife to Europe. One day I felt bad next morning after only one beer. Did the same as I did to smoking.
It was too much for me and it did not feel good anymore. Fortunately I was able to stop drinking from one day to next, just like I stopped smoking a few years earlier. That was like 7 years ago. I don’t miss drinking but the socializing and party that came along with it I miss every now and then.
Now I have 1 whiskey every couple of months- just by myself. 2 cl over at least 90 minutes in quiet, just me and the good tasting whiskey.
Or a glass of wine with a very special dinner, but also no more than just twice a year. I get satisfaction on enjoying these special occasions much more than I enjoyed the nightlong parties. But from smoking I remain fully as thinking that I could smoke occasionally did end several of year long time periods where I did not smoke. So my Achilles heel is smoking. And yours is alcohol.
Just don’t do it. For you! For your wife! For your family.

Great personal episode Ryan and Damo. Good to be honest, yet as you say sometimes hard to look back at earlier times. As a young married couple with 2 young boys of course you don't want to be drinking every day. Well, you were both so young and obviously Ryan was "sowing his wild oats" as we boomers would say. 8 years sober, so really only an alcoholic for 6 or 7 years of your life? very brief IMO. Now about me...enough about your past lives as you guys are doing fine now! Haha My relationship with alcohol and ganja is the best thing for me in retirement, so mind your own business. 555 . I see alcohol as a way to deal with the world situation, young people who have little education or knowledge of books , the many social media addicts. etc...I worry less now and have a Mai pen rai attitude. Everyone is different, I am truly lucky to be alive as my mother smoked and drank in the 50's and had had 3 miscarriages. i was an unexpected son and the runt of the family. Yet here I am in beautiful Thailand, made a good living, worked a lot, and raised a son and really have no reason to not enjoy what time I have left on this earth in retirement. Peace and Love Y'all light up my Life You give me hope....

What makes people binge drink is that alcohol dehydrates, making one thirsty so wanting to drink more. I recommend to switch to soda

January 26th 2018 was my last drink. I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme pain. I suffer from kidney stones so I thought that was it. I went to the emergency room and was given various scans. The diagnosis was pancreatitis and enlarged gallbladder. Both of these were defined as alcohol induced. The next week spent in hospital connected to IV’s. Nothing by mouth not even ice chips. Not a sip of alcohol since. I do miss it primarily rum drinks and margaritas😊 while on vacations. I do feel healthy and know I’ll live longer because of clean living.

I grew up w/an alcoholic father and while he wasn't violent and always supported his family financially, the alcohol consumed his time, his focus and attention. It was a constant source of friction between him and my mother and completely destroyed their relationship. As an adult, I understand addiction and can forgive him and appreciate the opportunities I had in life due largely to my father...but, it made for a pretty shitty childhood. It's from experience that I can say that you have given Damo, and the kids a selfless gift that cannot be overstated. Good on ya mate. My fondest desire is that your story will help just one person overcome their addiction. And if it does that, it's a story well told.

Silly question, can I ask where you got your hat? Love it, and it is perfect for Thailand!

Folks are beginning to realize just how addictive alcohol is, and how incredibly hard it can be to quit. As a chef the drinking lifestyle was ingrained in young cooks. I am one of the lucky survivors - some of my buds were not.

I totally get how and what you got your self into. I started drinking at a very young age but for some reason, it was never an addictive thing. I was a social drunk. So when life, work and reality hits, it a easy to not be as social. Computer engineering vs owning a bar lol it's obvious where you feel into that. My wife is Thai and doesn't drink either. I'm still a social drinker but hardly ever get drunk. Just need to know your limit but that's hard for some
