I grew up knowing this locomotive from a photo freight it did in 2005 that was seen in the DVD steam in the spring where some other locomotives did photo freights such as well such as heslier 6 at cass scenic railroad
So to whom does that Beautiful Desoto belong.??? Someone on the Midwest Zephyr media staff.? I believe its a '48 Diplomat. PS I see the caboose is turned end for end this time. LOL BTW watching the valve gear 5:59 to 7:04, very slo mo, was fascinating Walschert is easy. This (Baker I think) I still dont really understand how valve action is reversed. OK at 10:41/42 I see the difference in the position of the levers. In closing Does the 57 Bird belong to the same guy or another club member.? GREAT video an old B&O machinist loves this stuff.. Keep up the good work.
This is fantastic! How did you get from place to place during the run? Did you ride the caboose or drive? Either way it looks like it was a very well planned photo charter.
+Train Wizard Productions Thank you very much for the feedback. What we did was we all drove from one location to the next like a caravan. Each of us paying participants were given maps on where the runby locations were going to be as well as a two day schedule covering when each runby was taking place.
The soo line always had a weird way of presenting their steam locomotives. It looks cool as hell with the headlight like that, but why would they do that?
I'd like to get to the museum and see her someday. After discovering how close her home is to Milwaukee, which is where I live, I can't believe I haven't seen 1003 yet! Do you know how often she runs?
Please see the second link found in the description as it leads to the website for SLHA, the curator and operator of 1003. Thank you and have a good day.

My 3 year old grandson will love this. He's been fascinated with trains for over a year. Great footage of a steam loco.

Midwest Zephyr Media Thanks! You too!
wish they would lower the headlamp. I don't like it so far up.
It was the basic practice with the SOO for their steam locomotives; prototypical accuracy for the 1003.
Still though. I don't know why but it bugs me.
I like it as it gives the engine a unique look.
