    35:00 “Mission Command” is still used today in militaries. Rather than an autocratic leadership style, it is where a Commander gives his intent to his subordinates and how they achieve that intent is upto them. It’s particularly useful when the Commander is inexperienced and the subordinates are subject matter experts who can use their own experience and knowledge to determine the best course of action (for example, a new junior Officer with old SNCOs).

    Evan tho this man was the enemy. There is absolutely no doubt that this man served his nation with huge distinction. To be a tank Driver and go through so many battles, be fired upon and wounded many many times. To see such horrors but keep on heading and following the orders given to him. He is a war hero that deserves his stories to be heard. He wasn’t SS he was just a soldier like many millions were. And they all suffered terribly on all sides. But he is a true survivor with an angel on his side.

      Agreed. Regardless of what politics happened and the atrocities, I can respect the honor in any man willing to take orders and fight for his homeland. On a man to man basis; I respect any man’s honor to give his life for his loved ones back home. Men in todays world lack integrity and honor. These guys back in WW2 on all sides were bad mf’s regardless of what happened. If you really open your eyes, history is slowly repeating itself, minus the Nazis of course lol. The hardened and tough, humble man is much needed in todays society.

    The ominous "background" music is so loud that the narration is very difficult to hear and/or understand. This is a common audio problem. I think sometimes the music people think their part is more important than understanding the spoken word.
    I know that combat is noisy and confusing; but we are not actually in combat here. We are attempting to understand what happened.

    At 14 minutes the video starts discussing the nature of the 5cm short barrel gun on the Mk III panzer. Only problem is they picture the short barrelled 7.5 cm gun which was designed to be a support weapon providing a modicum of mobile artillery. It fired HE and HEAT rounds which at a shorter range was very effective on most tanks. Shame their research for this show does not include technical accuracy.

    Rheinhard Gehlen in German intelligence said they grossly underestimated Soviet strength planning Barbarossa. They destroyed more than what they thought the Soviets had. Yet the Soviets kept coming with more. His book "The Service" is an interesting read.

    • @FreedomFox1
      @FreedomFox1 4 роки тому +3

      German logisticians predicted pretty much exactly what happened in Barbarossa. But the narrative we heard after the war was from defeated Generals still in cya mode. Their traditional narrative of primitive “asiatic hordes” met with a good reception among western allies at the beginning of the Cold War. The subtext was that the Soviets only had brute force of numbers on their side, which was a genuine threat but could be countered through western alliances. It was at best a half truth, but it was politically convenient for western allies to accept the narrative of the recently defeated German generals (in fact, you see the same narrative, in even more cartoonish form, in the memoirs of average German soldiers).

    • @depleteduraniumcowboy3516

    • @FreedomFox1
      @FreedomFox1 4 роки тому

      @F. Friedrich Kling Hauss You have to admit, 19-to-1 is one of the more outlandishly high casualty estimates out there. The fact that we are hearing it from the US Army also fits in with what I am saying... the US STILL sees Russia as a near-peer adversary and looks to disparage the nation at every opportunity. It’s still common for peace advocates in the US to be called Russian agents, particularly when opposing US actions against Syria and Venezuela, which are Russian allies. Putin of course plays the same games with historical interpretation.

    • @HaloFTW55

      The German military intelligence during WWII is so inept that they were filled with Soviet moles at the end, so don’t take their words highly.

    • @FreedomFox1
      @FreedomFox1 4 роки тому

      @F. Friedrich Kling Hauss You’re getting a very one-sided view if you think the Germans were always outnumbered. The axis wasn’t outnumbered on the eastern front until after Kursk (the UA-cam channel “TIK” has some good videos on the subject). And Hitler’s Wehrmacht was totally outmatched by the WWI German army... there’s absolutely no question about that.
