I am currently binging ALL your videos. Never developed a game and started a point and click using the software you suggested. Was literally just looking to sort my animations so this is great timing
If you look at the Guardian's website, there's a really good photo montage gallery thing today from the Olympics which does exactly this with competitors in different events.
I don't have a PC, so I can't play the game, but I have a steam account... so there's your wishlist. I find your sense of humour incredible, so hopefully I'll be able to watch a play through in the future.
Wishlisted! Your game looks fun and can't wait to play it! I have a lot of respect for you doing hand drawn frame-based animation. I do the same for my game and OMG, it's sooo painstakingly hard to animate. Run/Walk cycles without experience is.... ugh... like building the Sistine Chapel from scratch without a blueprint. Also, working in Artrage Vitae for my character art has no animation tools but looks great. I'm starting to use Photoshop to help sketch an animation before I take it into my art program to polish it up, but geez, it's tough, and I personally think the hand-drawn art styles and frame-based animation are so well worth the return of investment when it comes to appeal and aesthetics to any game, so I struggle on. Glad you were able to get your directional movement animation done. I'm sure that was tedious to redraw the same animation over and over again because it didn't look right.
It's really great to see the updates on your progress of your game. It's really inspiring to watch the struggles you encounter on. I've been learning Godot now for the past 6 months through a udemy course. right now I'm on the 6th game of the course and stuck on the platformer section on boss behaviour. so I'm glad I'm not alone on bumping into obscticles as well. So this is encouraging to keep on grinding. so this is perfect timing on the encouragement. :) Also trailer looks amazing.
Come on bro lets do this, I started my tech start-up the same year you started your game dev journey. I'm almost done with my apps. I'd feel more fulfilled if we managed to finish our projects this year!!! Lets get things done man!
yeah, 8 directions is a nice thing if you can spare the time... I'm using Blender with low poly models and some shenanigans to render in pixel art, so I can do just ONE animation and 'record it' in any direction I need it... And thanks for your videos! Your insights are very inspiring! 😊😊
Hey, nice improvement on the 'garden room' the dark vibe is really great, moody i like that! Edit: Super Glue might fix that shit, i snapped my camera stand also by mistake, but managed to fix it with it so give it a try perhaps
Honestly do whatever looks right. There was an issue with the Disney animators back in the 30's and 40's with Mickey Mouse's ears. The would ostensibly rotate his ears around his head, instead of doing a true 3-dimensional representation of mouse ears. (Something like you'd see on the costumed characters in Disneyland, or sculptures and things). They had trouble drawing him from the top down when they just decided never to draw him from the top down. So in most cases, it didn't matter that the ears weren't proportioned and rotated as they would be on a real 3d object, but just that it looked right. So you can show some of his nose and his eyes more or less regardless of how it would look in real life, as long as it looks right to you.
Two months into my GameMaker journey, I really enjoy your videos. I've never coded before, so it's been a learning curve (and still is hard work for me) but the progress you've made throughout the devlog helps me keep pushing on. Also, a question: was the title a happy coincidence (The //// ident)?
@@pcd It's genius. And to me it bodes well for the rest of the game's deviousness. I used to set cryptic crosswords for a while, and so also love a good pun.
if you would had a completly different camera you could do that aswell? So you go into a room which shows you in fisheye lense or from the top. How would you solve that? you change the character and all the animations with it?
I don't want to cause artistic drama, but there's one aspect of the graphics that sorta rub me the wrong way, and it's not on the diagonals. When in profile, there should be loads of space between the eye and the nose. The bridge of the nose is there, and the eyes are quite recessed back from it. In your art, the eyes are right against the edge of the face instead. It's acceptable in the diagonals instead. Source: professional cartoonist. Feel free to get in touch for advice if you wish!
How are you handling voice acting? i figure that would be a large roadblock / expense for an indie dev. Seems a lot of people who make a point n click get someone like wadjet eye to publish who probablly handle the voice work? might be an idea to talk about that for future vid!
Please consider giving my game a little wishlist? store.steampowered.com/app/2967630/The_Biggleboss_Incident/
First I though "it doesn't look that bad" but after seeing the 8-directional version, yeah, it looks much better now
Agree

Cheers dude! Your channel is ace, btw.
Nice one!
I do like that mirage of many Toms around the office, they look like downloadable wallpapers... ;)

It will on mobile too
@BadTunes. On iOS for sure!
@@pcd but porting it over android should be easyer than ios
The trailer looks amazing! So excited to play the game.
Great vid, might inspire me to add diagonal walks to ma boi
I think it looks awesome! You are a better artist that you probanly care to admit really.
Just wishlisted and will buy when released. Thank you for keeping one of my favorite genres alive.

Very cool, scratching out things from the list like a BiggleBoss 😎

Great work, this piece of polish will go a long way in the game!

Definitely shared and recommended the game to friends.
that Fr Ted reference 😂 also, if you will release it on consoles, I will buy it
I'm not sure about consoles, but it will be on iOS alongside PC/Mac
now imagine if you had a combat system with attack animations for several weapons and a character customization....
Gonna swat some bothersome flies

Thanks for watching! And the title was always planned like that. I love a pun.

Brilliant to see how awesome this character looks, especially in all the angles. Now you've done it, how much longer did it take to add them all?
Adding them in was super quick. Drawing/animating was by far the longest part of the process!
Wishlisted!
if you would had a completly different camera you could do that aswell? So you go into a room which shows you in fisheye lense or from the top. How would you solve that? you change the character and all the animations with it?
Yeah you would need to make new animations for that, and then use AC tools to change walk/talk etc for those specific rooms.
Do you have any tips on how you went about writing your game? I have a small idea for an adventure game but struggling with the story.
I don't think I have any concrete advice other than to say: once you have your premise, think of a good ending and work backwards from there.

My plan is to put out a casting call that nakedly apologises for having a tiny budget.
The music that you often use at the start of these videos, is that yours? Because I just heard a company called Aussie reveals use it on their add..
Nah, it's just stock music.
I might go ahead and buy it, but I would prefer some other way to buy it than steam.
It’ll be on iOS, but I’ll also look into an itch page at some point.
@@pcd - I think itch would be fairly easy, and also should still look at GoG, it couldn't hurt to submit to them.
