Wishlist: steampowered.com/app/2967630 There is NOTHING sinister happening at Biggleboss Inc. Or at least that’s what the company motto says. Tom Baron doesn’t have time to debate semantics, though; he’s dangerously late for work - and he hasn’t even started his big Project AGER pitch. …Or is that just what they want him to think?

    Hey there, thanks for your Devlogs - pretty inspiring so far. I'm quite interested if you had to script something aside you're using AC for your game. I ask you because I'm more of a Designer insteed of a Developer.

    You talk so dismissively, but you seem to have a similar standard of quality that I do. Though your work ethic seems superior since it took you far less time to finish this game than it's taking me to finish my book.

    I think part of the appeal in point & click games is being able to be a tourist in an imagined world. When I travel to other parts of the real world I want to be exposed to sights, sounds, smells, flavours, feelings, places and people that I can’t experience at home. I think good P&C games capture some of that feeling, and the more detailed and specific that experience can be, the more engaging it is.

    When creating adventure game backgrounds, my first instinct was to draw them in perspective, as one does when they're drawing anything really. But there quickly came a problem. Since I was working with 2d graphics and 2d characters, unless my rooms were very shallow (as yours seems to be here), the characters look wrong when walking into the background. I could scale them as they walked further away, but then I was losing detail in my nice animations and it became really difficult to line things up properly. I quickly started drawing backgrounds basically orthographic or isometric, but hinting at the presence of perspective in a way that was convincing enough. This way I wouldn't have to scale my characters at all. It largely required I keep the horizon line above the top of the screen, so in none of my rooms can you actually see the ceiling at all.

    Had another thought. You were always intending to have other people doing the voiceovers for the NPCs, right? And that didn't make it any less a game made by you. Sure, hiring out for sounds and art means there's more people putting work into this game than just you, but the *gameplay* itself, the design of the puzzles, and building it all out, that's still all you.

  • @octopus1613
    @octopus1613 2 місяці тому

    I like that the new backdrops are quite similar to the old ones, and it's very clearly still your original design, just with a bit more polish.

    I mean, it worked. I started watching your videos (beginning with the one on puzzle dependency charts) because I want to make a point and click game. And by this point I also want to play your game specifically, without even knowing much of the plot. (and also several of the others you've had on screen lol. they also look fun)

    I loved these games growing up because you aren’t in any hurry, in no rush. You can slow down, take your time. Enjoy the world, the art, the story, the writing. When these came out in their peak in the 90s, there was nothing quite like it for story telling.

    I agree with the cozy argument fully, I'd just like to add that these games also affected me emotionally exactly like a piece of art should. I mean the Broken Sword and The Longest Journey specifically. I don't get this from any other kind of game, it's just incomparable. What I remember the most about these games is emotion.

    OMG! The plant that is always dying is a Peace Lily and it's the most dramatic plant we've ever had. We can get away with watering our plants once a week (summer), twice a week (winter). But not with this guy. Oh no! If you put it in a direct sun and it's a sunny day it will be dramatic the next day. If you put it away from direct sun it will be dramatic after 3-4 days. Surprisingly it's being dramatic but it still hasn't died (our experience). So if you like a little drama in your dev game shed you can try to water it more frequently. I use my unfinished glass of water every now and then. If you are no drama plant people I would highly recommend Zamioculcas plant. It's very hardy and it's leaves look thick and healthy. It's likes having no space in the pot and does not like frequent watering. I,ve also noticed you have Sansevieria -also good choice. It's also hardy but needs more watering than Zamioculcas. Sansevieria comes with many different colors. You might find some that you will like. Anyway say "hi, drama queen" from me to your Peace Lily ❤.

    I agree with the overall sentiment, and of course we all have our own relationships with these games - but I disagree that you really only ever remember the overly difficult puzzles. I find that I remember the ones that give me a little trouble, but that I figured out myself. Like pirate insults in MI or finding a way out that hotel in BS. Or how about working out details about a scene in The Case of the Golden Idol - that one in particular connects the 'puzzles' directly into the story. Without those little reward nuggets the games wouldn't be enjoyable. So one thing can't really live without the other. The stories need the puzzles and the puzzles need the stories.

    How are you handling voice acting? i figure that would be a large roadblock / expense for an indie dev. Seems a lot of people who make a point n click get someone like wadjet eye to publish who probablly handle the voice work? might be an idea to talk about that for future vid!
