how did you cut through your mast? and I've got a lightning class with a keel based mast but I'm hoping to cut it right above the deck and add a tabernacle assembly because I can't really step the mast on my own. I'm going to put the cap you placed on the end of yours on both ends of my cut and attach them both to two sides of a tabernacle hinge.
I have a chop saw that I use to cut masts You can get an aluminum cutting blade for them that cuts fairly clean. I have cut them with regular miter box as well with a 40 tooth or more regular carbide saw blade. This works good too. A hack saw works but harder to keep a square cut and takes longer. I did what you are describing to an oday daysailer. It worked great. Cut the mast and used the short piece permanently mounted through the foredeck and added a mast hinge just like you described. Good luck and thanks for watching. Wear safety glasses when cutting
I bedded it in 5200 yes and on purpose And it is well fastened. There is tremendous sheer force when you first start to raise the mast until the angle is better. I have seen them rip out of the deck while the mast was being raised because of this force. Once the mast is up then it needs very little to hold it in place I don’t use 5200 much but sometimes it is warranted
Love the new music!
Thanks
