I've just collected several quarts of pine resin from the trees in my back yard. I haven't purified it yet, I'm waiting until the weekend. What I love about purifying the resin are the large deposites of debris left over. Before it cools I like to line several silicone ice cube trays with drier lint, then drop partial spoonfuls of the debris that would normally be discarded into the lint, allow it to cool until hard and when it's fully set, pop out little lint covered pine sap debris. The lint lights up with any means of fire starter you enjoy using. The pine debris catches fire quickly and will burn for several minutes, the length of time depending what kind of debris was in the pine resin you collected. If it has bark in it, you may get a five to ten minute burn time. That's enough to cut down a tree and still have enough time to start a fire. If it's just bugs and small twigs and pine needless, you may get two to five minutes of burn time. You can always add more wood chips to get a longer burn time. Regardless of how long it burns, you or anyone should be able to get a fire going if you've given yourself five minutes to prepare your wood piles beforehand. The smell of burning pine pitch is amazing but I don't recommend you light it in the house, as thick black smoke will fill every inch of your house. The local fire department has no sense of humor when it comes to black smoke billowing from every open window or door. Actually they have no sense of humor if its white or off colored smoke billowing from your house. I'm heading up to my Vermont hunting camp next week. Last spring I scarred a bunch of pine trees in order to collect a mess of resin this year. If I'm lucky I'll fill a big twenty pound cat food container. After watching this video, I may make my own skin care product, or pine resin soap. Use a little of that the morning of your hunt and the deer will never catch YOUR scent. But they may think they're sitting in the back of a NY City yellow cab that's overdosed on pine air freshner.
That is great Emelie that you waited with the video until you could give some feedback on the efficacy of the finished balm as that is good to know. Spruce pitch or "resin" is *very* medicinal. Looks like your balm turned out very good.
Always happy when I see you post a video. Enjoy the Swedish/English translations, the Swedish proverbs and the excitement in your voice when things work out, as well as your facial expressions. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your Resin Balm video , yes I will also try making this one day soon ! Love your genuine attitude to the great outdoors , thus making me a new subscriber today !
Very good job on the antibacterial resin. I'm glad it's helping. The skin on my hands get that dried out and cracked, too. I'm really enjoying your camera work and editing lately, too. Thanks for sharing it with us. It's just impossible not to smile after watching one of your videos.
I enjoy watching your videos from time to time, they're well produced, and you're so charming without being phony. I have been fooling with this sort of thing for decades, and I have to admit, the last couple I've watched with the pine resin I've been learning. You've gone from a beginner to someone who works from prior experience. Building a fire in the rain with what's available is not easy, and you progressed right through. I'd have done some things different, but you got there just the same. I may have to try some balm now too, as soon as I stop laughing of the image of you with your feet stuck to the sheets. Keep it up, you're a bright, positive, and most of all a charming lady.
Who knew? Enlightening to see what may be done with natural ingredients. Very well presented in an enchanting forest. I always appreciate hearing the Svenska words. Cheers!
I live here in Forest Grove Oregon in the US. I watched your video I went out and Collected my own pine sap made my salve and antiseptic ointments the work great.
Very good job Emilie, Even though I don't have much time watching your channel I already love it, it's really educational, I've learned a lot in the short time I've been watching it.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Well done.. I do enjoy all your videos. I am glad I am not the only one that has issues in the bush.. Keep it up.. Keep up the innuendos too. Very funny indeed..
Emelie, the most endearing thing about you are those facial expressions. Your command of the English language, along with that delighful swedish twang, and your interesting and entertaining outdoor adventures enhance a natural beauty and make you a very attractive young woman. Now you've added another element by using things taken from the natural world and combining them to produce an antiseptic balm. Suffering from similar problem with my hands in Winter I have long used Neutrogena Hand Cream, it works for me, and it works quickly. Thank you for all you do to inform and educate.
+Emilie, I meant every word, but please, no tears. I have enjoyed watching your videos from the start of your channel and for exactly the same reasons, you are very entertaining. You may recall though that I did thank you for not inviting me to join you for dinner - when you did that ant feast. The best laugh I've had so far from your videos was from "My Go Bag Revised" (no comments on it here) and I just loved your fight with that Orange thingy in "A Disaster Waiting to Happen!"
We can buy that ready-made here in Yellowknife. Works great! Might be more fun to make it, though. Your videos keep getting better and better. Take care.
That was great, and I'm glad you got that to work so well. I am so used to seeing you with your hair up, you surprised me with the hair down look at the end. You are quite beautiful and I apologize for even bringing it up. Happy hunting for more resin, thanks for taking us along.
Emilie, I always enjoy your videos and this was no exception. Keep up the great work. I enjoy when you include your proverbs. Since I have some resin, I might have to try this. That is a very stylish paracord choker you wear and love the ring for connecting a leash! ;) It must go well with your paracord handcuffs. Soft feet are more fun to tickle, so you are welcome to sleep with your socks on. :P
got a lot of Ponderosa pines and a few Scottish pine trees around and some Cedar trees, as well. I will see if I can combine some of all that stuff to make some nice resin-balm. Also going to try my hand at making some violin rosin with the resin or pitch.
My dad always insisted that we keep a small can of FRÖSÖSALVA at home. It sure smelled of resin. It was soft like hair wax and looked like fudge. Good for anything.
Awesome video Emilie!! Your videos are always awesome and much anticipated. Now that you've shown me what to do with the purified resin, I need to go collect some myself! I have a friend who gets the same dry cracked bleeding fingertips you get. This would be good for her hands too.
Thank you for this. I have been making and testing all kinds of variations of that for over 20 years. I like to add fresh medical plant flowers like woundwort juicy/watery medical plants add some moisture. Protects from all kinds of insects and toxic stuff. Very good as sun lotion even after sun burns. Keeps skin dry during wet weather. Keeps skin humid in dry air. Good for derad locks and hair. Can be eaten for desinfection inside. Good for teeth, best desinfection in combi with bicarbonate Repairs all kinds of stuff in the body. Smoking dry pine resin desinfects lungs in case of infections. Protects leather, clothes, to water proof stuff heals injured trees and plants. When pine resin is heated with very little oil only, you get a thik very sticky glue can be used to protect open wounds and other things. Dry pine resin crushed to powder can be blown on animals with fur and birds in case of wounds/skin diseases. Like any good medicament it is good for many things like giving the skin a beautiful gold brown colour.
I get eczema on the back of my hands, and have difficulty keeping it in check sometimes. Thank you for sharing this, I'm going to make some myself this weekend!
Hi. Even here in Florida the winters would dry out my hands much the same way you described. I was in construction most of my life and in the winter, even with lotion, I had to wrap my finger tips with band aids, which one time was good as I noticed one of my band aids getting tight and discovered that my finger was indeed swelling due to a pinch injury where a blood vessel had been damaged, But instead of getting and blood blister, the blood had pooled and got infected. I had to be rushed to the hospital because being a diabetic, anything blood related was an emergency. The infection was spread to a vein in my arm leading to my heart due to a physician's assistant who didn't know how to drain properly. Lost some use of my finger, but without the band aid getting tight, I may have not noticed it until it was too late as there was no initial pain or discomfort. As always, love your videos and wonder what your students think of their "pioneering" teacher. Thank you for posting and take care out there. God Bless from Florida.
Great video. BTW - sure you know this, but tree resin is called "sap" - at least in the states. That's just because there are many types of resin. Anyways, next time I have a chance I will make this balm.
Awesome video Emelie, I am adding it to my favorites for future reference. My only question was "how sticky was the end result?" and you pretty much answered that. COOL!
Emelie that good idea ..do you have balsam fir in your CONTRY that already liquid that I used a lots as it is for cut also you can get the spruce liquid some time ... I used coconut oil for all my bush food ....if you are interested let me know from a Canadian in the northern part of Bc
What she made probably isn't that flamable. Like wax it would need a wick to burn. When it's melted down it's very flamable. She has a really great set up. The double boiler, fire you can turn off, an being outdoors are great safty tips when dealing with hot wax an resin.

+Far North Bushcraft And Survival Thank you! Yes I really like that balm, I've even made some more at home :)
my grandmother used to treat all my cuts and scrapes with resin balm. Worked like a champ.
Always happy when I see you post a video. Enjoy the Swedish/English translations, the Swedish proverbs and the excitement in your voice when things work out, as well as your facial expressions. Keep up the good work.
Good job Emelie. We all need to go back to old remedies for healing.
+Tony Blackmon Yes I believe so too.
40% resin 40% beeswax 20% coconut oil but 100% charm... as always!

That was good. I did not know that about resin. Good job teacher. Keep it up!
Det er så gøy å se på det du gjør. Og ikke minst lærerikt! Har aldri prøvd dette, men vet at man kan lage myggmiddel på samme måte. Thumbs up!
awesome! I use the resin straight from the tree but i like this too :D
+yotagerlie Thank you :)
Great stuff! I use straight pine resin for band aides while I am in the forest. Thanks for sharing!

We can buy that ready-made here in Yellowknife. Works great! Might be more fun to make it, though. Your videos keep getting better and better. Take care.
I enjoy your video's and your personality. What you are doing there does not require exact measurements, lol Thanks for sharing.
Great tutorial Emelie, thanks so much!
I have sooooooo much resin and pitch saved up on standby and I have these cool torch rock bowls to burn for light, as my best creation so far!~
Excellent video. Try adding some chopped rosemary to the balm, it smells great! This balm is also great as a beard and hair balm for men.
What a good vibe!
Emelie's Balm......has a good sound to it.
That was great, and I'm glad you got that to work so well. I am so used to seeing you with your hair up, you surprised me with the hair down look at the end. You are quite beautiful and I apologize for even bringing it up. Happy hunting for more resin, thanks for taking us along.
+fumasterchu12 lol! Thanks! :)
Love your videos!! Keep making them!!
+Hiking & Survival in Japan Thank you :)
Emilie, it's great balm! I made it last weekend and used it during the week at night on my hands. Cracks on my hands almost disapeared.....
Emilie, I always enjoy your videos and this was no exception. Keep up the great work. I enjoy when you include your proverbs. Since I have some resin, I might have to try this.

I wonder what the "shelf life" would be ? I would think it would last indefinitely with the ingredients used.
Thanks again !!
Who else just melts when she says 'my beewax' :)
My dad always insisted that we keep a small can of FRÖSÖSALVA at home. It sure smelled of resin. It was soft like hair wax and looked like fudge. Good for anything.

i love watching your videos x
Awesome video Emelie, I am adding it to my favorites for future reference. My only question was "how sticky was the end result?" and you pretty much answered that. COOL!
+Steven Szabo lol! I added more coconut oil the second time and it became a lot less sticky!
Emelie that good idea ..do you have balsam fir in your CONTRY that already liquid that I used a lots as it is for cut also you can get the spruce liquid some time ...
I used coconut oil for all my bush food ....if you are interested let me know from a Canadian in the northern part of Bc
Neat recipe
And as always you look amazing 😍
Id probably keep that balm away from naked flames .. Something like napalm comes to mind : )
I love the smell of napalm in the morning. :)
What she made probably isn't that flamable. Like wax it would need a wick to burn.
When it's melted down it's very flamable. She has a really great set up. The double boiler, fire you can turn off, an being outdoors are great safty tips when dealing with hot wax an resin.

I only pointed out some safe methods used in this video, cause I imagined somone doing this in the kitchen.
Gus Look I agree with the cringy-ness. His hostility makes no sense based on your original comment. UA-cam is a very strange place.
Hej Emelie 😀, excellent video some vanligt 😀.
jag ska prova din baulm . Den ser effectivt ut ☺ och bra att ha i skogen 😀. Tack för det och kanske, vi ses i skogen 😊😊😊

i like your UHUUUUUUU amazing emelie !!!
I thinking sesame seed oil may work too. Love it thanks
Very cool. going to try this TY
Lovely to hear! Hope it goes well :)
cool video, Emelie👍
two parts each of resin and beeswax, to one part of oil. Ointment or Balm.
Almost the same as Sealing Wax, use Lindseed Oil.
Thank you great video! Beautiful country! Have you ever been to the Rocky Mountains in America?
very interesting. i wonder if it is also edible? it seems like it may work as a chapstick substitute. thanks for sharing.
Recording all that with phones? I am impressed.
+Boodieman72 I only use my phones. Its the sound that has been troubling me. But I'm working on it :)
Excellent Emelie. Can you confirm the tree resin can dissolve with hot Coconut oil and with even the resin hot ?
Haha your videos are so funny and cute that it always makes me happy to just watch your videos :)
I will totally buy you a cup of coffee if I ever meet you ;)
+Lionheart XVa Oh thars sweet, but I only drink tea ;)
How about beer then? ;D
Lionheart XVa White wine? ;)
As long as I can stick to beer :)
