    I have that same exact sansevieria. I bought a fernwood ALSO from IKEA. I’ve had it for a year now. Never once did I check the root ball. It just never occurred to me. Thank you for showing me how messed up their plants can be. Will definitely have to check up on that come spring time.

      Hopefully they stopped using those plastic net pots. They can really suffocate the plant. After I repotted…over 3 years ago, it’s been thriving. And just recently I’ve noticed it’s shooting out flowers. For the first time too!! So excited. Will try to post an update video on that fernwood soon. ☺️💚🌱

    I bought a sansevieria starfish because it looked cute. I had a "beach theme" happening in my bathroom, but now, as my sansevieria starfish grows, it looks like it's giving me the middle finger.
    I think because I repotted it, it's growing faster because the sansevieria starfish I bought my friend, which she kept in the same small pot is still small.
    I wonder if your snake plant, planted in the small/buried pot, was left there on purpose to prevent the plant from spreading out too wide. It looks more elegant standing straight.

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  5 років тому +1

      For sansevierias I feel like the more light you give it the faster and bigger it grows. Just make sure it’s not direct light. And repotting it would just give it more room to grow out and grow roots. Having it root bound might cause it to send out new growth (pups) and leaves in weird directions.
      And funny how you mentioned the middle finger...The one I separated looks like it’s giving me the finder too. LOL.

    I had the same problem with a few plants grown in net pots. Seemed to take forever to remove them because you have to cut small pieces around the root to minimize damaging the plant.

    • @GotPlants

      I was gonna repot mine next year but after receiving a comment from one of my viewer's...on how her plant got suffocated by these pots & nets I think I need to get mine out ASAP. I need to order something that can cut hard plastic now...ugh...and yeah I agree...it's gonna take me a while to take that pot off...

    • @peggylee5021
      @peggylee5021 6 років тому

      I had to do this on several plants - big and small net pots and used small garden snips and an old pair of sewing shears. The blades are easier to slide between the plastic & roots. Good luck!!

    @anaamaral3641 6 років тому +5

    This has happened to me with my sansevieria except it was rubber band. Previously it also happened with my money tree i never repotted and when it unexpectedly died i found the roots were suffocated by a rubber band at the base. So you probably want to remove it eventually.

    • @GotPlants

      I guess these large companies don't care about the plant....They just want to find an easy way to plant them and sell them off. So sad. I was thinking of repotting it next year...do you think it's gonna be too long of a wait?? Would it need to get out of that pot sooner? Ugh Gonna need to find some tools to cut the pot and free it out soon.

    Hi .can you tell what they need the food ? And what kind the the soil is best?😅

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  Рік тому

      Sansevierias prefer a mix that’s well draining. You don't want it to hold too much moisture because this will lead to root rot. I use a cactus succulent mix and add some perlite for better aeration. You don’t have to feed this plant much. Hmm maybe a light organic fertilizer once a month would be good. I don’t fertilizer mine much at all. 💚🌱

      Yeah, i tried both ways of propagating snake plants. Both ways were successful. Water rooting is much faster...i dunno...we'll see...i need to repot that plant because of that blue plastic pot. I will see if I wanna do the water method or not then.

    Is there a difference if Sanseveria Cylindrica is light green or dark green? Is one better or worse than the other?

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  4 роки тому +1

      Not really sure..but for some other plants it sometimes due to its environment. Too much light might make a plant lighter. Sun stressed.

    • @marjxowisno
      @marjxowisno 4 роки тому

      Yes they are both different species :) you can search in google what are the differences because I’m not good at explaining. The cylindrica you often see in the market are leaf cuttings being “propagated”

    What will happen if you dont repot?

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  5 років тому

      Repotting a plant just helps it to grow. It give it more space. As you can see in the video my starfish leaves we’re getting damaged by rubbing against the plastic nursery pot. And my fernwood was planted in a smaller basket inside which wasn’t good for the plant. Also don’t forget the medium it was in. If you purchase a plant that have no issues...big enough pot, good soil, and everything ...than it’s ok to just leave it in its original pot.
