Thank God I found you! Been wondering how to save the odd looking plant I found on our front yard. I pulled out a few stems and threw them away not knowing it's a relative of the snake plant I have indoors. Will try to save what's left first thing tomorrow. You have been an angel!
well wow - just chop them up and stick them in - amazing and simple - i watch mine little and let it be - I water mine once a month - thz for the info !
Hi Adela! Very informative video. 😍 Do you have update on this cylindrica, how it's doing now and how long it took to have pups. Do they look like mother plant or they have different leaf shape?
This plant is so weird. I snatched one, just one, from Walmart a couple of weeks ago. I didn't even know it was a sansevieria. I'm hoping that they will just root along new ones because it's still too small to cut and propagate. It looks so funny just one little stick standing out of my coffee mug planter ☺️
If my sanseveria come in cocos potting soil i should put them in cocos soil right ? i just repotted a new one into really strong clay pot while adding additional cocos soil with perlite added.
just known the name of this plant. since i found it weird.. just left it to live naturally. however, it flowered after three years maybe. the every year now, it flowers. can i put it inside the house? i was told, the flower can cause allergy and can be toxic. is this true? thank you if you can make a reply.
I always allowed the leaf cutting to dry and callous at the cut area. You planted soon after cutting and watered them imediately without letting them rot. How did you do that?
Hi, I didn't do any special thing for the snake plant to grow even when planting the cuttings immediately. Maybe the quality of the soil is good, I used pure cow dung manure as the soil for this propagation video. Here's a video on how I prepare the soil for propagation > ua-cam.com/video/lghQjCdDA2Q/v-deo.html
Hi Christmas Snow, does your cutting grow ok when you let the cut edge dry and callous? How many days do you let it dry before planting and how long does it take for the roots to appear? I just managed to get hold of a cylindrical leaf but it is winter time now.
Good work! Is it that easy to propagate? If I take one stem and cut it several times, as you did, will it propagate into multiple plants that easily? Thanks in advance! 🙂
Hi Justin, As you can see in this video, it is possible to propagate snake plants by leaf cuttings. You can cut the leaves about 3 to 5 inches long and grow new one from that leaf cuttings. Here's a more detailed video :) ua-cam.com/video/sMG_RvVx0P8/v-deo.html&t
My nana gave me one of these and it has rusty looking streaks everywhere :( The plant doesn’t seem to be suffering from the spots but they are so ugly. It’s a rather large clump. What is it if you know? Should I cut them as u are and try to grow fresh from there? The new growth isn’t affected. It almost looks like sunburn spots. She lives in Florida and these were always an outside plant in a pot. They got filtered light all day. One spike does have what appears to be dried areas where something chewed on it. Idk what to even use to treat for pests. I have it separated from my other succulents and cacti. Thoughts? Advice?
Hi Bama, in your case, there are several possible reasons why your snake plants are becoming unhealthy. First, are you watering properly the plant? This plant should be watered only when dried not too much but not too dried. It may also possible that the plant you have is too old to become look healthy so it is perfect to propagate them just what I did in this video to make a new one. you should place the plant in shaded area not direct sunlight.
Adela B I’ve only had the plant a week now but I’m sure she probably over watered it and I think it got too much sun. She lives in Florida where the tropical sun is harsh. I use the soak and dry method waiting til soil is actually pulling from the side of the pot. I re-potted this plant and I will probably do what u did here. Just propagate. I hate how those pieces look. It’s def. an old plant. The new shoots are very pretty. It it was pot bound so there wasn’t a ton of new growth possible. Nana is 80 and she loves her plants....she just didn’t have energy to keep up with them all. I took over half of her collection last week to ease the load. I will try your method. Thank you so much.
Hi dear adel...But some experts believe that ..overwatering can bend the senseviera...is that correct.??They told me that overwatering and root rot and cold situation may cause this situation..
Hi MS, in my experience, it depends on the level of bend of your Sansevieria Cylindrica. Maybe, it is bending because it is going to fall down because of root rot due to overwatering. But if it is bending and the plant seems very healthy, it maybe finding the best spot for it to gather some sunlight. That is only based on my experiences on my plants. :)
