Syrian baby born under rubble adopted by relatives

- The Syrian baby girl who made headlines globally after she was found alive under the rubble and still attached by the umbilical cord to her mother has been discharged from hospital and adopted by her uncle, Khalil al-Sawadi, who named her Afraa, after her late mother.
The infant's mother died in the rubble of her home after giving birth, along with her husband and four other children.
Sawadi and his wife will be raising Afraa with their four daughters and two sons. The family home was destroyed in the earthquake, and they are now living with relatives in the town of Jindayris in northern Syria.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Sawadi insisted that the best place for the infant to be raised is with family.
