- At the start of the rainy season, we met with ambient musician Chihei Hatakeyama, who let us in his home studio.
We looked at him research new sounds, he then improvised an original ambient composition, that gave our minds a little breeze of fresh air during these crazy times.

IMHO, Chihei is the greatest ambient composer alive today. Trying to create ambient music that isn't cliche (slowly opening filters, diatonic sequences, Star Treky vibe) is nearly impossible. Chihei is, for the, the clear successor to Eno's breakthrough ambient work of the late 70's, followed by the great Alio Die. I'm a professional musician, and after 40 years of it, I don't do a lot of listening anymore, I feel like I've heard it all. Not so with Mr Hatakeyama, I've probably spent 1000's pf hours immersed in his work Thank you Chihei!
f*ck brian eno hehehhehehe
100%, you are not exaggerating about it AT ALL
Hello, Im french 22 yo and I discover the ambiant gender after so long listen of electro and alternative song, Im am truly impressed by what kind of gender is, is so interesting, I know some classical (Aphex twins SAW2, Hammock, this masterclass) and I listen ambiant to sleep with this « weird ambiance » the this gender provide to me. So I would like know, by your experience, what is the BEST AMBIENT SONG of all Time ?
By far my fav. ambient artist of all time, so happy to have discovered him. 4 years in a row as my top spotify artist. I would love a vinyl or two 😭😭
took the words right out of my mouth! or from my fingers...

I just found out about this channel after the Playstation 25th anniversary documentary. I believe I have never seen better documentaries anywhere, and I am on youtube most of the day. Your documentaries are an absolute joy to watch.
Thank you for the kind word, more to come very soon!
I still listen to Mizar every few days. Love you Hatakeyama!
It is incredibly exciting for me to see the studio and equipment he uses. What a magician!
It's a pretty drab recording space, but the tones coming out if it... just beautiful. I discovered Chihei Hatakeyama for myself about two years ago. I find the music uplifting and somber at just the right balance. The craftsmanship is real and you lose yourself just watching him work his intruments in this video. I did not realise it was 20 minutes long.
Great composer, love his stuff

this is beautiful. I'd love to know what gear he uses! Chihei has become one of my all time favorite ambient musicians.
I think the list of all his gear is quite a long one :)
@@ArchipelDocumentaries and I'd still love to see it!!!
1. thumbs up. 2. watch. 3. get inspired
👍👀🤔
anyone knows that song he played in the begin?
Everything was an improvisation made on the day of the session.
Sometimes you give more "complex" titles to your videos, so I wasnt actually expecting a legit music session... Safe to say, I wasnt disappointed hehe
Sometimes it's best to keep it simple :)
What's the name of this track ?
It's an improvisation he made on the day we filmed, in the end he decided to name it "a long rainy season".
主さん。あなたなにもんですか
BUT ARE YOU SINGLE!? 👰🏻♂️
a very nice, chilled offering nuanced and inviting (but dude, don't take this the wrong way, but ...that lighting isn't working in your favour)
When shooting during Covid, we do with what we have...
Understood!
