I met Kevin Burke. Took a fiddle lesson from him. It was like Einstein trying to explain general relativity to a 1st grader. However, he did have a full archive of funny stories and great tips for the novice. He is a very gentlemanly and kind fellow. As for the cat, mine used to leave the room whenever I picked up the fiddle. Now they stick around for awhile. Its pipes that get them scattering now.
I looked at the insert to the tape of "Promenade" and sure enough it is also known as "Lafferty's Reel". I heard them do "Pigeon On the Gate" along with that tune.
A set including this tune by Kevin Burke with Ged Foley on guitar is on iTunes, search for it under "The Roscommon Reel/McGovern's/Fred Finn's" . It's called "McGovern's" in that set. Ged lived for a while in SE Ohio and played a fine fiddle (at least for our area) at many Columbus Ohio sessiuns in the 90's.
Very nice playing. This is before - I think - Michéal Ó Domhnaill got his terrific Lowden guitar. Burke has been one of my inspirations - along with Tommy Peoples - for my Irish fiddle playing. Neat and beautiful...
originally titled Glen of Aherlow by its composer Sean Ryan, PJ. Hayes and Paddy Canny temporarily named it 'Lafferty's' - after pianist Bridie Lafferty - on that early recording they did with her.

This is really lovely... Especially the perfect, gentle way it's played.
Used to see those two in Portland, before it went weird.. Thank you both..
Only Kevin can make the rear end of a horse scraped of the inside of a cat sound so sweet even cats don't mind.
Amazing play by Kevin and Micheal........will never fade away thank you
totally...
Hard to beat this combo of players. Two of the best there is. Great tune!
That's just so nice. I love the speed at which he played. It really allowed him to get the best out of the tune, and he sure knew how to do it.
Such a lovely man Micheal was ♥
How does he do that and make it look so effortless?
FANTASTIC !!! My favorite irish violonist.Musical thoughts, from France : Christian

même le chat à l'air d'apprécier.

I saw Michéal Ó Domhnaill play a Guild guitar in this UA-cam video.
@@ezekielsmukler2903 Michéal later played a Martin D-28 with Relativity and Nightnoise.
Sublime.
Simply lovely

Okay, that does it! First chance I get, I'm replacing my LPs of "Promenade" and "Portland" with CDs!

Great to see a few new vids of yours in my sub-box, and a few gems at that. :)
If I closed my eyes I would think that fiddle playing was from the Appalachian Mountains...
What are the chances of posting the guitar tab. I absolutely love the accompaniment and would love to learn it
if i ever meet kevin burke im going to ask him if that was actually his cat.

That cat reminds me of my father's dog who would sit casually while I revved my LOUD dirt bike- no sweat!
Bog music.
sounds slow, but I reckon it's pretty fast
Now known as The Cat's Reel!
You can really hear the origin for bluesgrass here
I blame the Irish for American Hip Hop.
