I just found your channel three hours ago. It's 3:06 a.m. and I can't drink in enough of it. I can't thank you enough for what you've done. It's a tremendous gift. God Bless you.
This was my introduction to Gregorian chant. A week in this monastery changed my life. I was Protestant upon my arrival and I left a Catholic that same week...in November of 1988
I converted to Christianity in Solesme after spending a week there in 1988 listening to these chants several times a day. True that the name of Dom Gajard remains a legend. The reason why Gregorian chant has such an impact when it comes from Solesme, is because historically speaking, it was the first abbot of Solesme who did the research to gather all the manuscripts of this genre of chant, lost since the period of the Renaissance. The Rennaissance was such a time not much different from ours with the advent of computers. Right after the French Revolution in the 1700s, these chants were even forbidden, so it took until the 19th century for Abbot Guéranger to succeed in his compilation. during the 20th century, all Benedictine monasteries in Europe would send a group of students to Solesme to learn the method and bring it back home. that is how the famous Monk of Silos of Spain gained their popularity during the 1990s and it is one of the reasons why the monks of Solesme do not accpet offers to make tours around the world with their chant, in order to avoid massive tourism as it has already happened in Silos.
Wow! Followed your channel after finding your post of the Nutcracker Suites...thanks for all the great music! I imagine in heaven Pope St. Gregory the Great is smiling down upon you. May the joy of the saints always be yours!
Your postings are always appreciated, davidhertzberg! Considering the era these cuts came out of, this is likely one of the most authentic representations out there of Gregorian chant as handed down through the centuries. Think of all the refined operatic voices we got over the years which developed with their singing of the Missa Cantata! Sadly these Masses are generally few and far between nowadays.
I am glad you posted this special disc. If I could find ways to bring people to listen and to understand what these men are singing, people would too eventually participate praising God through these Gregorian Songs of Praise. Thank you again for posting this beautiful Gregorian songs with only voices of men dedictated themselves to these praises for God Father Son Holy Spirit. Amen.
Their voices are so pure. It is a reminder of the great continuity of faith through beauty over the centuries. Thanks for providing the album information with the music.
God bless you, Mr. Hertzberg (what a meaningful name!) the 1930 recording is one of Dom Gajard's earliest - to my mind, and having listened and sung myself in a Schola, Dom Gajard is supreme over all, and so also the so-called "Solemnes Method. I truly believe that only the French voice and accents can make the holiest and most emotional of all sounds. Others follow with merit; but Solemnes OWNS Gregorian Chant. Thank you again and again!
I, too, am impressed with this early recording. The voices are masculine-sounding, not girly as are, IMO, the more recent recordings. The re-vitalization/reconstruction of Gregorian Chant happened in France, a Romance language country. Listen to some of the German monks' choirs.
Stunningly beautiful and humble. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing ANDREY NEMZER singing SAINT FRANCIS PRAYER. Such humility and inspiration!.
This is a best spiritual music for pray. Solesmes keeps the best style of gregorian . For the benedictines Solesmes is the Teacher of our Liturgy. Fr Francisco osb
I have never met a Catholic in my life who worshiped Mary. God honoured his mother, she is the queen mother because she is the queen of a King. So like the apostle John we take Mary as our mother and by respecting the Mother of our Christ we respect Him. Of all creatures she is the most perfect, and why shouldn't God make his mother beautiful? Sacred Icons/music/architecture and writings can help us humans (who happen to be sensual beings) to grow in understanding the sacred mysteries.
thanks for posting this, I so much love catholic faith. please how do i get these collections and many others? ........................ John from Nigeria
You can hear the like if you go to a Benedtictine Monastery. They're all over. You can stay at most if they aren't holding a retreat. You're welcome to attend the daily offices. Thanks, for posting this. I like my chant a cappella, not with a bunch of other background music, which makes it sound like that 90s group, Enema.
The Liber Usualis is a book of commonly used Gregorian chants in the Catholic tradition, compiled by the monks of the Abbey of Solesmes in France. According to Willi Apel, the Liber Usualis originated in the 11th century ... WIKI
Luce
Luke 1:42 The dictionary denfinition of "venerate" is "Regard with great respect; revere." I really fail to see how this verse does not fall under the above definition, or perhaps you missed that bit when reading your Bible? I also point out to you Luke 1:48, asking you, in particular, to note the words "for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed" God bless :)

There was three ships each with a different nation's flag. The first nation did not take care of its ships and the ship was in a bad state. The second nation took great care of its ships and the ship was in great state. The third nation did not fear anything but the Lord so it did not matter what state the ship was in.
Does playing this music, for my personal use, produce a moral obligation of mine to buy it or something affiliated? I would like to listen to chant but my conscience torments me. Thank you.
Yes, I accept that we have major differences here, and it is unlikely that either of us will change the other's viewpoint. However, as far as I can see, I have definitively disproven this statement you made - "ive never seen it in my Bible, veneration of mary" - so I would appreciate it if you would retract it, and perhaps make an apology for it. If you cannot do this, perhaps you could explain why the examples I gave you from Luke's Gospel do not qualify as "veneration"? God bless
Nope. I had the record, made in that era. There is a kind of muffling that penetrates the voices that, with all the technical expertise, doesn't exist on today's CDs.
I just found your channel three hours ago. It's 3:06 a.m. and I can't drink in enough of it. I can't thank you enough for what you've done. It's a tremendous gift. God Bless you.

That is really good question. I will post this question on a Traditional Catholic Forum and report back for results.
Of course not! This music is sacred. Money is not, it's just a man made construct, used for his own personal power over others.

I think Ghetto Cat might have called that 90's group Enema on purpose... it's probably what their music feels like to him... ;~)
Why not visit for a weekend retreat? They charge a very modest fee. Brings some books. Rest and relax!
I thinking that Christian Music is Roman Music from the classical age. Am I right?
The current Gregorian chant is more medieval. Christianity imposed itself after the classical age.
