Yes yes. It's all about routine for me. Work your shot out before doing anything, stand behind the line of the shot, chalk my cue, walk into the shot, pause while looking between the object ball and the pocket, then one, two, three and boom... completely miss and grumble back to my pint.
Hi, Im really do enjoy your enjoy your content. Ive found every video very helpful so far. I wonder if the yips at least in hendry case may have been a lot more severe though. That being said, Many of us me included dont have a pre shot routine, or a go to calm mental spot if the rack or racks are going against us. A mental reset button. I played a guy years ago and 8 balled him. He seemed really anxious when we played so i asked him why were u so nervous as it was only me and him in the room. He said the guy who taught him to play never let him win. This made me quite sad and angry as twas more like bullying than teaching. I just thought of him as i was watching your video, and oh. Thank u for the content and hope i haven't been too critical? . A video or even series on the games mental side would be manna from heaven though. Take care Will.
Hello Simon, just watched your video and this will help i try this technique tomorrow at practice but just from listening to you it will sure take the metal blockness i have in my head that its not letting me hit the ball. Thank you so much, ill reply tomorrow again. By the way my first comment was made after only listening to the video in the first minute.
I think Hendry in snooker suffered from the yips and I think I probably agree with your video. All cue sports have a very mental aspect regardless what level you’re at. Some players like myself struggle with controlling nerves and nervous energy something which I’m working on _ which can hinder matches etc
Yeah. Once you reach a certain level it is all mental. Only thing I can say to help is that everyone feels the nerves and it isn’t always a bad thing. Just focus on the shot and visit in hand and try not to think of the outcome at all.
Gday Simon, thanks for the tips ive been trying all day it has helped but its only practice, ill let you know in the next couple of days that ive got 2 pool comps to go to.
I have suffered for many years and couldn’t find a way to beat it to a point I’ve pretty much stopped and avoid playing in public, even just at a friends house it happens or alone. I don’t really have an issue hitting the ball but more I can’t feather the ball smoothly it’s jerky and snatchy, inevitability you don’t hit the middle of the white and miss. I would take any tips or advice to try overcome it
This method works for me most of the time. The times when you have a harder shot, you don't want to shoot as fast, are more of a problem. The only other thing that helps is that I start to raise my body before I shoot. Not the greatest technique, but sometimes, it's the only way I can get shot off. My yips started recently, so I'm trying to find a way to deal with them.
I find I pot better when I pull cue back and then go straight forward into the shot. I like the idea of the pause but I end up missing more then I pot?
Interesting, I find the sports physiology very interesting. I would say that a key for you is to work hard in practice and possibly some routines so that you feel confident and positive when you are in matches.
Simon you have hitted on the head, that is exactly what i suffer atm. I struggle to be able to hit the ball, so so much so, that my whole body tenses and i shake because im fighting within me to hit it but something inside me is not letting me. After a session i go home worst then if i had been to the gym from the amount of tense pushing or tensing my whole body by trying to hit the bloody ball.... I dont wish this upon anyone, its so so so hard, even my friends are in disbelief what im going through. Ive won state titles, represented my country and believe it or not, i cant do a simple thing of just striking the ball for a shot. I must admit, its not on every shot, in English 8 ball sometimes it could be 1 shot or all 8 balls. What i have notice the worst in when the cue ball in on the cushion or on the black.
Thank you for sharing. It sounds like it’s harder when there is more on the shot, like the 8ball. Trying to simplify things may help. Tell your self the basics of what you are doing on the shot. And forget what the shot means. Please let me know if you find anything that helps.

I would say take a look at my video on cueing tips, to see if it can help your technique

I am also suffering from Yips. I will definitely try this. But feathering there in this or not?
Thank you for sharing. Please let me know how you get on.

No need to change it, if it is working for you.
I suffer on an off, if my potting is on point I'm fine, if its not like my sighting for the angles is off then it's all in my own head then

Guess those are basically happening when you rush playing because you end up not deciding when to deliver shot... 🤔

@@SimonTWebb thank you for replying, I'll try and simplify things
Hope it helps
