    Or maybe just take the skill shot instead as it was lined up perfectly. This way, you dont give the oppoonent any shot

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb 2 дні тому

      You could take that option. But IMO the loss of turn is the best play.

  • @TheJestinator

    Pretty sure it doesnt have to be in the same pocket

      It doesn’t. Can be any pocket

  • @IainMcC-b5v

    Except in Blackball. That would be classified as a "deliberate foul" and would result in a "loss of game".

      True. But my videos will always be referring to international 8 ball rules.

    Sidespin is for reaction off the cushions. Not the bottom cloth.

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb 4 дні тому

      That’s a nice way of putting it. But point of the video is how much of the table you can get to without side spin.

    using side with top or bottom gives very accurate control.

    • @SimonTWebb

      It can. But isn’t alway needed. And for the majority of players can make things harder.

    2 questions 1 do you use stun to allow the black to follow in 2 is this allowed in international pool rules

      You can play this shot with any spin. But backspin can help. And yes it’s allowed in international 8 ball rules.

    Or simply, think of where the next ball gonna be, and think where cue ball wanna place next

    • @SimonTWebb

      It’s more about how you get there with more margin of error.

  • @drcolossus1

    Very interesting, not sure if it's something I've really thought about, perhaps subconsciously, but will try think about it next time I play for sure. I'd definitely just somehow end up behind that red near your watch though instead! :D

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb 8 днів тому

      See if this helps. Certainly gives you more room to play with. Means you don’t have to be perfect.

  • @CharlesB147
    @CharlesB147 8 днів тому

    "In line with your next shot" is how I've heard it described. You can't always do that, but it works a lot better if you can visualize the shot line you need to get to the next ball, and gives you a much larger margin for error.

      And when you know you need it for position.

  • @CharlesB147
    @CharlesB147 13 днів тому

    Man, that tight positional play is something I need to get down. Thanks for bringing that up, I'll have to incorporate that into my game more often. I always find I'm trying to stretch for position with sidespin and I'll run just a little bit past or a little short, but if I don't use side, does it really make that much of a difference? Thank you for that thoughtful insight, Simon. Love your UP commentary. Keep up the good work.

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb 13 днів тому

      It depends on the shot you are playing. There are times when side is needed. but point of the video is to highlight how much of the table you can get to without side. Biggest thing, is to learn your naturals and what you can do with the centre of the cueball, then you can add side when needed. Thank you. its a lot of fun working on the shows.

      That would be a foul. You have to hit a cushion or pot a ball after contact

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb Місяць тому

      What do you mean by that? Im not sure I fully agree. It is possible to make this shot hitting it a lot harder.

  • @snerbsnerb2454
    @snerbsnerb2454 Місяць тому

    It's not necessary when there's a decent gap between object balls. The first ball picks up forward roll before hitting the second one, at which point it stops but the roll serves as topspin. When the two OBs are too close together, plenty of backspin causes enough spin transfer to help the first ball follow the second in.

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb Місяць тому

      Spin will transfer, so agree, when they are closer then adding backspin will help and may be needed.

  • @waveyjones3347
    @waveyjones3347 Місяць тому

    Pace and distance matter more. The bigger the distance between the balls and the slower you play it the more the back ball of the plant grips the cloth and gains its own topspin. Backspin on the cue ball will maybe give a ball or twos roll maximum but if you hit the object ball too hard it will stun across the table. Hope this helps 👌

  • @mikewhitby2686
    @mikewhitby2686 Місяць тому

    The cloth has more bearing But on a shitty table it’s a whole lot easier with backspin On the one you playing on you can play what you like

    • @SimonTWebb
      @SimonTWebb Місяць тому

      the cloth can make a difference, but it would have to be very bad and heavy to stop the shots as I played them.

    • @mikewhitby2686
      @mikewhitby2686 Місяць тому

      @@SimonTWebb I agree but there’s plenty with next to no chance Quicker cloth means you can play the shots with the balls closer together too

      ua-cam.com/video/4PGXUld5A24/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared This, and several other of Dr Dave's videos prove that spin transfer to the object ball does occur. He has a lot of slomo clips too which show the effect. I think the effect is a bit more subtle with the lighter English pool balls but still present.
