I was really surprised to see that no one commented on this video! I really wanted to tell you that I completely relate to what you explain, this "creative depression". I watch a lot of videos by other writers on youtube and some sometimes talk about writing slump and how to get out of it but I haven't seen anybody go in so much depth before on what it feels like, when you are a creative person, to go into these periods where... you want to create, so bad! but you can't seem to be able to create anything good or good enough for you. And I think you are right in calling it "creative depression". Like you, I do not suffer from depression, but I know some people that do, and during these periods when I'm not creating, I'm not actually depressed, I continue to function normally, go out of bed in the morning and go to work and laugh with my friends, but I have this constant feeling that something is missing from my life. During these periods when I'm not creating it really feels like I lost some kind of balance I had in my life and everything suddently seems duller, and time is passing me by and I'm not doing anything with it. I don't know if I'm making any sense and I don't want to seem overdramatic but it's really what it feels like to me :) and I haven't seen anyone talk about that before so I really wanted to congratulate you on making such a personal and relatable video!
Also it's really touching to see you become so emotional when talking about your novel. If it means that much to you, I'm sure the words will come to you and you will do your story justice :)
Anyway, I wish you luck and courage in the new draft of your novel you are currently writing! I have also been in one of these "ceative depression" period ever since the beguinning of July but this week-end I'm finally forcing myself to get back into my novel to hopefully reach the end of this first draft soon!

Oh wow, thank you so much for commenting! That means a lot. Yeah, I felt sort of iffy calling it "creative depression", but that and how you described it is exactly what it feels like in the moment. Creating and productivity for me go hand in hand, and it's nice to see I'm not the only one who feels this way!

Syd!!!! I resonate so much with what you said about fear of disappointing your main character, and that attachment (relationship?) is beautiful and so unique to writers. I'm so so so proud of you for starting on your new draft and for conquering that anxiety about starting. Thanks for the reminder to get past the first push and fight through that pressure. I love seeing your passion.
Yeah, when I feel that way about writing I also find it helpful to push through. I also don't always write chronologically; this definitely doesn't work for all writers, but I skip to scenes I'm excited about. In fact I try not to write any scene until I become excited about it, so if I'm dreading writing it then I probably need to rethink it or add some kind of cool twist.

Tori Sharp Thank you so much for watching! I feel like my MC is my pen pal that I write instead writing to. And it's always important to have fun with/be passionate about the story you're writing, or else you might not be writing for the right reasons.
