I got the 2021 Leaf S Plus. And we are in Florida so not as hot as you but still very hot. I travel every weekend from Jacksonville to Orlando. 290 miles trip. And with one fast charge to 75% on the return is all that is needed. It is a really great car. Build quality is great better than most. Would recommend this one.
I loved my 2013 Leaf S but I finally had to update it for a Model Y. I have never taken it on a long trip in the 6 years I had it 😔 They had such a good lead, I feel like they really dropped the ball by keeping their lower trim to less than 200 miles and limiting fast charging.
I just took it on a trip to LA and back a couple of weeks ago. I DO NOT recommend it in a Leaf. With the hot climate, the constant driving and the DC charge, the battery was pretty much melting by the time I got to the grapevine. I had to throw it in neutral and hope the wind on the way down would cool the battery enough to get me to my endpoint. The trip back took 12 hours, compared to 5 hours in an ICE car because charging with a hot battery will cost you two hours compared to 45 mins.
I have 1 2018 in Florida with no difficulty, new battery chemistry makes the temperature thing not such a big deal. Also, the internal charger can only handle a maximum of 50 kw. I love my 2018 SL, no issues for me.
We love our 2 Leaf Plus models here in Chicago, and never have heat issues. I am not sure I would brave Phoenix with I though. That said there are many happy Leaf owners in Phoenix.
My wife & I love the 2021 Nissan LEAF SV Plus 🌿 I keep my LEAF in the garage and charge it every other day. I keep about 31 kWh in the battery. It has taken me to Utah & Colorado safely. I travel to Flagstaff & nearby cities within 150mi. I use ChadEmo charges so I can get back home. Loves this commuter car but probably would upgrade to the Ariya if given the chance ^.^ I am the first person in my area to get an EV ^o^ AZ clean air, clean skies License plate came in This weekend 😌👍😄
I had 2 LEAFS from 2015 till 2020 (2014 SL and then 2016 SV) never done any serious road trip excpet 2 times 60 miles one way trips where I had to charge to be able to reach back my starting point. Now on my second Bolt which is the EUV. Its not fastestest at DC charging but definitely capable for road trips. You should review Bolt EV and Bolt EUV
I know a lot of issues have been raised about the Chademo and battery cooler but most Leaf owners are likely charging at home. If you are using the Leaf as a commuter it's perfect. If you plan to do a lot of long haul road trips, it's not the best choice. I'd argue the a plug-in hybrid is better for people looking to do a lot of long haul drives.
Thank you for doing a review with the standard leaf and not the sv plus because people are most likely to to get the s and not the sv plus so it's nice to know what you'll get with the standard.
I miss my 2012 LEAF. It's range was very minimal, the battery had to be replaced under warranty, but it was actually more comfortable and practical than my current Model 3.
Just received my 2022 Nissan Leaf Plus SV which has most of the upgrades, after driving 2013 SV for a few years. The 2013 still has ten bars so battery degradation shouldn't be a huge issue here in Northern California. I plan to sell all my ICE vehicles next.
I have a 2018 Leaf and live in South Florida where the temperature this time of year is 120 Deg in the sun and the high 80’s in the shade. Never had a battery issue at all. I only drive with ePedal engaged as it is very smooth stopping and my breaks do not wear out. The 160 mile range does not bother me as I can fast charge it in 45 minutes from the eVGo station, though I usually charge it at home at level 1 using the 110 volt outlet on the outside of my house.
I have a leaf 40 KW. I love it. I just ordered a 2022 Leaf E+. In Europe the Leafs are much cheaper than the Teslas and in Sweden the leases are a downright steal for a new leaf. In the US I would choose the Model 3 though unless the top trim was around 30k.
I was originally going to get a Nissan Leaf SL Plus, because it's all I really needed. But, the dealership actually refused to sell the vehicle to me when I wanted to put more money down and finance less through my own bank, not through Nissan. I was surprised that they let a sale walk just because they had so many Leafs (previous year and current) on the lot just gathering dust. On the plus side, I eventually went with a Tesla Model 3 SR+. Thanks, Nissan! :) They really did me a solid.
Nice video, better than most of the professional test driver. But I wanted to know the mile range of this car on freeway, this is the only test that didn't cover on the video.
If only Nissan would switch to a liquid cooled battery and dump Chademo for CCS they might still be competitive. My wife and I test drove one about 2 years ago, and the legroom in the vehicle is very limited. Felt very cramped inside compared to the Bolt.
Wow 🤩 You are beautiful The blue dress is fire 🔥. That being said your reviews are honest and have depth with a side of witty commentary. I will be watching more videos from your channel. Thank you for being you.
I always recommend people get a portable level 2 charger for their car. Never know when you might need it. If you live somewhere where you can't charge I'd be sure to get this vehicle with the DC fast charger installed.
I really enjoy your channel and your presentations have been improving nicely. But I find it a bit funny that I know your dog’s name but not yours. No last names please!
I’m here because of the bolt fires. But the air cooled battery concerns me. I live in south central Texas. So what did the owner say about the leaf in the hot climate? Is it doing what you said it would do? Not charging fast etc.
If the battery is being used constantly, it does heat up especially if fast accelerate or get to 20% or below, yup. The ambient temperature is supposed to cool it done but if you are in 120+ degrees, your battery will be hot or hotter
Old and out dated... no battery management, Chadamo? where? Not here.... You can get a Kona EV with a 269 mile range and a better warranty for a lot less...

Any issues at all with battery cooling in summer? Considering buying one, but in the Midwest and it can get hot and humid at times.
This is one of the best reviews on this car. Good job!
She is such a doll! Some lucky dude out there.....

Used Leafs are a great value for temperate climates. I used to like driving mine, then I got a Y.
Hi, I have viewed several of your videos and they all have good accurate information.
Thanks for spreading the word about EV's.
We love our 2 Leaf Plus models here in Chicago, and never have heat issues. I am not sure I would brave Phoenix with I though. That said there are many happy Leaf owners in Phoenix.
Here in Chicago, my battery temp gauge never seem to go past the half way mark even after L1/L2 charging.
Sounds like you have to be a rocket scientist to own this car.
It is actually very user friendly even for non- tech people like me.
Always enjoy you EV videos. Learned a lot about the various available EV’s. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. You explained everything I needed to know. Some of the big youtube auto channels should learn from you.
I’m glad it was helpful! Thank you 😊

Crazy that they haven't updated the cooling system

Hola! thanks for the kind notes in my videos! Also my trip to Spain went well, I did get to check out many points of interest.
@@CallasEV ¡Me alegro!

i had good luck with my 2004 altima. 7500 federal credit makes this really tempting!
Another great video. I was also considering the Leaf Plus. But hard to beat Tesla model 3 right now with its technology and charging support system.
Yeah, but pricing is not exactly on par. Used to used, the Nissan is cheap for a basic city commuter where you can plug in at home during the night.

When these batteries are charged at the highest and quickest rate, the more the longevity is diminished.
Great video ... one petal driving is so great!,
Very informative video ... thanks

Would or wouldn't? Kinda makes a big difference what you're talking about.

This front of this Leaf is millions times better compared to the Leak sold in the UK.
I noticed you never drove the car in the "B" mode (battery regen). You can get more range in "B" mode!

GOOD REVIEW & GREAT CAR.
I got Nissan Leaf 2021 S plus. Do you recommend fast potable charger ? I can’t charge from my because I rent.
I always recommend people get a portable level 2 charger for their car. Never know when you might need it. If you live somewhere where you can't charge I'd be sure to get this vehicle with the DC fast charger installed.

thank you
Don’t worry about the MSRP. Huge discounts on these plus the 7500 tax credit.
Does it turn off after 2 hrs being on? Like once it on and in park I mean?

This should be a future used bargain with that chademo plug. For me that's worse than the passive air cooling.
Great video. Thank you for sharing, 👍🤩
👍👍👍👍👍THUMBS UP👍👍👍👍👍

First!
Nissan missed a trick, the car looks and far behind. Interior is inferior to cars around. The charger should be brought up std.
It's a nice looking car, too bad it's so outdated.
Yum.
Got dang 🥵
more like radiant cooled lol

You are like a Nissan Leaf, tiny. Lol😅😅😅😅
I wish people would stop shilling these pos disposable cars!
What a joke. Tesla ftw.
Looks bad
