The reason they put the arm on the dog was so the dog would keep roaming around leaving a blood trail so Bradley would waste more time trying to find them, which gave ling a bit more time to help ed and al fight and escape. Also cool to see that ed and al definitely have gotten stronger fighting scar. Before al didnt have the quickness with the alchemy cause he would still draw the transmutation circles and ed knowing exactly how scar would destroy his arm canceling out his alchemy. Last time they fought it was over in seconds
Al flexing his new alchemy skills, those stone hands were crazy, on top of another great speech by him. there's some interesting parallels going on between the two sets of brothers, Ed and al on one side, Scar and his brother on the other, both brothers gave up an arm to save the other. Same with Ling and his ninjas, and Roy and his crew, both have ambitions to be a leader, both have had their subordinates get hurt and refuse to give up on them. I feel for Winry, it's tough being on the side lines, especially when one feels like they can't contribute directly. It reminds me of disaster relief efforts, what everyone sees is the heroic work of those on the front line, be it fighting fires or providing aid to those effected by natural disasters. What one doesn't see is the incredible amount of work going on behind the scenes, from folks working on the logistics of supply distribution, to people working hot lines and information networks, allowing those on the front lines to succeeded. I feel Winry is a lot like that support network, she does so much, not just as the mechanic for Ed's automail, but as a life long friend that has helped both brothers grow into who they are now, and vice versa. On top every life she's changed for the better working in her home shop with granny and Rush Valley, that phone call was just what she needed.
Beautiful, the scene at the train station is beautiful in all aspects, the animation, the colors, the music... but above all the way in which Ed fills up with courage and tells Winry what he feels, and then Winry being one of the few characters to be honest with themselves and accept that she is in love with Ed, it's all so cute, tender and romantic. It's funny how May doesn't even realize that Ed is the Fullmetal Alchemist, since the image she has of him is very idealistic in her head: a talented young alchemist with a red coat and beautiful golden hair tied in a braid. She calls Sacar "servant" because Yoki told her when he met her that Scar was his servant (of course Scar didn't know this and later overlooked it). May is very young, she is around 12 years old, but considering that Xing is a country with many difficulties and that she is the daughter of the emperor, her skills in fighting and alchaestria are not so surprising. Finally Ling: he is one of my favorite characters, I love his carefree and interested way, but this is the real Ling, the one who wants to be emperor of Xing to save his clan and who cares about his subordinates, not to mention his extraordinary skill on the battlefield and surprising strength. So far he is the only one who has been able to face Bradley and not die in the attempt, although most of this victory belongs to LanFan. The determination with which she creates the trap for Bradley is amazing, let's say that cutting her arm with a kunai is not something, since a kunai is not a cutting weapon, it must have been something especially difficult. And I think Bradley's phrase captures LanFan's bravery very well: "Well played, girl." Great reaction, see you next time! P.S. In the manga it is mentioned in a comic strip that Al only allows women and cats into his armor, and XaoMai, being so small, Al thinks she is a cat.😂
Great video! I love how this ep is called Girl in the Battlefield, and we have May, Hawkeye and especially Lan Fan and Winry being important players in this ep, each showing their strengths. I also love the bravery of Ed with his declaration at the station, even as an impulsive, reckless and clumsy boy he still has a way with words when it matters (like comforting Winry at end of the last ep). And yeah, haha, I love my girl Winry but I was also happy to see her go back to Rush Valley and get away from the danger, I need her to be safe!
So, just a question, since I noticed this before, I'm not sure where you live (I don't want to just guess Australia or the UK or something because that would be presumptuous), but is the term 'illegal alien' considered a cultural faux pas where you're from? You seem to have had kind of a strong reaction to it both times they mentioned it. Honest question brought on by curiosity, nothing more.
Appreciate your curiosity! Yes I’m from Australia! I’m pretty sure ‘illegal alien’ isn’t considered a faux pas down here, but I could definitely grasp the meaning of it in the context of the show at the time.

Ahhh that'll do it, too much going on for me to pick up on that 😂
@AnimeJourneyOfMatt it happens 😂 if and when you ever watch it again, you'll be amazed at all the small details you'll pick up.

Some of my favourite scenes in the last few episodes, show really putting in some work on character development right now!

Love the titles in this series, always have some double or extra meaning that I don’t even realise until afterwards!
