Good review! This is a nice repaint that people have been waiting for! I am going to call out the elephant in the room here! Where are the extra hands Hasbro? Scorpion has one open hand and fist hand and that's it! - That is wack as hell especially considering you are charging more for these Marvel Legends figures now Hasbro! You have extra hands that are already sculpted & in Hasbro Marvel Legends inventory that could have repainted here to match Scorpion's costume deco and packed in with this figure! Weak sauce Hasbro!
I like the first costume much more and here are my arguments: First of all, I really like this shiny darker green that looks very interesting alongside the rest. His whole mask, which is already iconic and unique to him, resembles him and I bet it was based on the typical balaclavas that were worn by bandits with holes for the eyes and mouth and apparently the mask is also put on his mouth so that they stand out so tightly because it is tightly applied to the face XD. And it is an absolutely classic costume that appeared most often in comics even in newer series like Nick Spencer and later
I bought a previously owned version of the original Scorpion figure at my local vintage toy shop. It was a bit pricey, but something about it caught my eye, and it had been on my wish list for years. When I got it home, it appears I may have bought a REALLY good custom, or a variant, as the lower face and nose are not painted green as on the original. There is even a pink wash for the lips! Whatever it is, it's pretty awesome, and I feel NO need to get the new one...
I definitely see what you mean. The darker one is the more classic and overall more real design, but at the end of the day, the classic one just looks more clean
I don’t have a Scorpion in my Legends collection yet, so I’m glad they made this and for the retro card line which I love! Looking forward to getting this guy in and great review Dan!
I like this design better too, but it would’ve been nice if instead of a cheap easy repaint for Hasbro to do, they could’ve put him on a bigger body. Even comic Scorpion should be much bigger than Spider-Man. Also, I am hoping they re-do the 90’s Sabertooth on a bigger body at some point too.
This is a great figure - it does sadden me that I won’t be able to get Doc Ock in the retro packaging. I guess this is where I jump off collecting this range.
Its March 2024 & I just recently ordered Scorpion on eBay after getting a great deal..it had been going for OVER $50 on the aftermarket..so I'm watching some reviews..& of COURSE Dan Who Reviews was my 1st stop.. because of your EXCELLENT comparisons..I admit that I usually fast forward during the articulation portions of these reviews.. Btw I held out for this version.. even tho the mask covering the mouth IS the way Scorpion was drawn in Marvel Comics. Anyways..another great review brother👑
Thanks for the great review. I am super psyched to get this figure, because I missed the other version but this is also closer to my minds eye of scorpion as well.
This new one looks fun. The face print is an upgrade and the brighter green pops. I have the original release. I painted the green face flesh coloured, so I'm happy with that.
The mask on the 2019 version is comic accurate. Even the sculpted lines on cheeks appear in some comics. I did want two when the first one came out. The new one I will put in my Spider-Man display and I'll move the previous version to the Masters of Evil next to Radioactive Man, Tiger Shark, and Whirlwind.
Great review as always. Just a shame that Hasbro didn't update the articulation with pinless tech like they did with the Spider-Man TAS Retro Cell-Shaded Spider-Man figure.
I don't think hasbro said that they won't do retro cards any more. They'll probably do the the VHS packs for the pulse animated figs and retro packs for some fan channel figs.
Thanks for the review. My issue with this re-release is that he still doesn't come with alternate hands. How am I going pose him wall-crawling or choking Spider-Man?
The retro carded Spiderman wave messes with my figure collecting OCD...lol. Are they animated....or are they comic inspired? There are a few that look more animated than comic inspired....this Scorpion being one. Figures like Kingpin, one could argue comic as much as animated. Animated legends are not limited to figures with cell shading. The recently released retro carded Apocalypse is a prime example of this, as that figuee was a straight up animated Apocalypse. I try to section off my legends that are no doubt animated style figures....and figures like this will be making this difficult. LOL...damn OCD!!!
Hasbro did not paint it 100% accurate because they have to leave something for the next RePaint, that's what they've been doing over and over. Release some inaccuracies and correct some while squeezing the same mold. But like you said it is close enough and if I get this, that could be it for me too.
@@incognito4354 never used them before my friend so can’t really give any thoughts, but if you pay via PayPal you could be covered for 90 days incase of may issues, so may be worth a shot
Never knew Scorpion was as small as Spider-Man. No claws? He's too damn small. Watch the cartoon. The toybiz version is superior. I'm very disappointed and couldn't buy this.
I could be wrong, but didn't he at least once or twice wear this suit in the comics? Asking because I kind of like this suit more, and would like to add it to my comic display
I didn't have Scorpion so I'm really glad I'll be able to add this to my collection and in the form I am most familiar with. I am sad that this is probably the last of the retrocards though I plan to collect any remaining retro members of his rogues and supporting characters to be a completionist. Why couldn't this plastic free mess come more gradually... when prices go down then the plastic goes away... we know Hasbro doesn't really give a damn about the environment.
Why can't they give us bendy wire tentacles for Doctor Octopus then? I would've bought the Superior Octopus if not for that, don't know if they changed since then, but its still sad that a whole character and his gimmick accessory that are constantly reused are shafted in exchange for a character that isn't reused as much
Dang, when compared to the other retro carded figures, this new Scorpion seems kind of flat/plain. He probably would have benefitted from some of that cell shading they've been doing for the newer animation related stuff.
A basic wash or something like that could have done a lot for this, since there are such huge areas of lime green. Heck, they did a wash on the darker green animated Lizard.
You ask which I prefer? Neither. Both Scorpions are on an old body with poor diaphragm range of articulation and loaded with pins instead of the new pinless body. It's like Articulated Ninja said, the updated one is merely a repaint of a 2017 ML body. SO there is a 3rd option - I get neither.
Vice versa for me. I don't like that colour scheme at all. Looks like a character from MacDonalds. But on the other hand I never watched the animated series. Comic all the way,
Lol retro packaging isn't going anywhere. They can charge 10 more bucks for a repaint when it's on this card. Plastic free is only important when it saves them money.
It stinks that we didn’t get animated Ock in armor before this package change. I may just hunt down actually retro figure. This looks good!

They didn't raise the price so they could add more .
@@adams6473 Hasbro still could have packed in more hands with this figure! Having one fisted hand and one open hand is lame!
@@allthingstoys8163 and they could have charged more too
@@adams6473 I do agree!

No need for a vhs version of this one this one hits the spot.
No need for a VHS version of anything
I missed out on the last scorpion release I'm glad its colored liked the 90s cartoon. I hope we get a chameleon and kraven.
*MAFEX classic Spider-Man will be the one to pose with all these villains, so much hype!!*

Great figure, I prefer this color as well. Should be bigger though. But Hasbro, its a straight Repaint, at least through in alternate hands, jeez.
The animated is always so cool! They should make another one with a cloth trench coat for him
Killing it with all the new reviews! Dan, the hardest working man in town next to MCUCollector

Retro cards are absolutely 100% not going away.
Pretty sure they are, being replaced with the VHS figures for animated series figures.
@@bradnaeser8155 pretty sure they aren't, Hasbro never said Retro packaging was going away.
I remember this toy when I was a kid
This is a great figure - it does sadden me that I won’t be able to get Doc Ock in the retro packaging. I guess this is where I jump off collecting this range.
Maybe I should save up and wait for the Sinister 6 pack? That’ll be perfect if they do it in the future.
I'm a little pissed they thought he should be the same size or smaller than spider man, but I'm just ornery this morning. Thanks for the review!

I like the full mask better. Even if they like both. The unmasked looks like a sod😛
Thanks for the great review. I am super psyched to get this figure, because I missed the other version but this is also closer to my minds eye of scorpion as well.
I like how they actually painted part of the elbow joints dark green, they don't do that on some other figures
Handsome figure! If it weren’t for the latest round of Retro X-Men pre-orders, I would have grabbed him too. Thanks for the comparisons. 👍
This new one looks fun. The face print is an upgrade and the brighter green pops.
I have the original release. I painted the green face flesh coloured, so I'm happy with that.
Lime green for sure! I like the dark metallic green as well but the whole time I had that one I was wanting this version.
Going forward with the Spider-Man VHS, I hope they do a green goblin with the huge Goblin Wing in the way they did the retro Iron Man.
I’m so jealous of you guys that live in the UK. You guys get everything earlier than me in the United States.

Did the cel-shaded spider-man actually release already? My preorder still says December.
Thanks for the review. My issue with this re-release is that he still doesn't come with alternate hands. How am I going pose him wall-crawling or choking Spider-Man?
Hi! Great review, the darker Scorpion is comic accurate. Check out Todd Mc Farlane's Scorpion in Amazing Spider-Man #319!
I wish he looked more like the Series you know, with a bigger build, longer legs, etc.
I did the same with my electro. 👍🏾

Got the Renew your vows set yesterday the Spidey is amazing, but sadly my spinneret’s paint apps weren’t great. Other than that the set is great.

Hasbro never said this was the last Retro card release
It is very cool. But like the last version, it should be a little bigger.
I'm understanding that Hasbro won't release more of this retro line?
Wow you get him already so fast?
If Hasbro wanted to make easy money, they would repaint this guy in brown/tan and add Rattler to the Serpent Society. I know I did.
I like the retro one
definitely need this version!!
9:06 That scaling looks off. Spider-Man being taller than Scorpion just doesn’t look right.
Cool figure and great review however Scorpion should be a little bigger and taller . In the comics Scorpion looks to have more size than this figure .

Rektangular’s list leak has a bendy wire tentacles Doc Ock on it, separate from the alleged NWH w2 wave.
Im prefer the old one..becoz the old same mold..and the old green is matching most of the green villain spidey
From the cartoon spider man the animated series
I never understood why Scorpion isn't black or brown or even orange. Green makes zero sense. Still a great goon though.
I want one what's the link so I can get one

to me, this version looks more attractive.. but does not match with other Spiderman villains..
I Think The Hip Is Different
Its based off older comics, not the cartoon. The cartoon largely copied the comic designs.

The actual face sculpt is terrible, what's with the giant red lips? Mask is crooked on his face ,
