Would be cool to see you make a split-pin crankshaft and accompanying camshafts to turn it into a proper boxer engine, so it won't shake itself to death from the crazy rocking couple caused by the shared crankpins
@@allenl9031 Yeah not quite the same there, 'flat' is referring to crankshaft setup for horizontally opposed engines, flat engines use shared crank pins for opposed pairs like a V engine, Boxer refers to those being 180 degrees apart so the pistons move opposite to each other and cancel out more of the vibrations making it smoother, both setups are still flat plane.
I believe the reason the fan broke is bc if you look @6:18 you can see that as you rev the engine the fan belt starts expanding quite a lot, I'm sure the belt came off the pulley and got sucked into the fan and caught between the fan blade & shroud. I miss this kind of content, while I like seeing these different engines being run its nice to see them do some work rather than just a static run test. Hoping for more videos like this in the future! 👍👍
9:58 I think it's because that belt is stretching out and the slack is getting pulled into the fan. You can see it stretching the first time it runs during revs.
but you don't really see it getting pulled into the fan, I suppose its just because of the high rpm. the pulley ratio is rather big so that fan is spinning like twice the speed of the engine

Still wouldn't sound quite right unfortunately, Subaru and VW are specifically boxer 4's. Boxers are flat, but not all flat are boxers. Boxers have the opposing pistons synchronised to reach TDC/BDC at same time as each other whereas you can see on this crankshaft the piston on the left reaches TDC at the same time as the piston on the right reaching BDC
You mean that vomit inducing sound that makes me that accepts that people have different tastes in car culture than me and respects that fucking hates with a passion
It won‘t rumble, it‘s a flat 4, not a boxer. Flat 4 is basically a 180 degree V, two pistons share a crankshaft pin. Boxers have a pin for each piston, which means the movement is different.
@@Phrewthat literally has nothing to do with the rumble sound caused by the unequal length of the exhaust header. The Shelby gt350 is a flat plane v8, but it doesn't sound like a flat plane v8 because they use unequal length headers.
