    every 10,000Hi Alan, GREAT video on fuel filter replacement, now I know how to do it...BUT I have another long running problem. I have a 2008 Mk 5 Mondeo from new and gets oil and filter changed every 10,000 miles. If I go out on a very frosty morning and wait until the glow plug light goes out on the dashboard and move to start, it fires first time, every time. Great. However after say a 10 mile journey and the car sits for 20 minutes or so, when I go to start it again, it takes about ten attempts before it will start. The heater plug light goes out instantly and the engine turns over but just wont fire up. I keep doing this until it finally starts. In short..starts when cold, hard to start when warm....any advice would be welcome as otherwise it is a great going car.....thanks Joe

      could be a difficult one, might be worth replacing the fuel filter replaced and getting the ecu read for any codes which could point you in the right direction

    Hi Alan. I’ve got a question. If I remove the first pipe you removed in the video and then I start the engine can I drain some diesel that way and will be any warning light on the dashboard after that?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  2 роки тому +1

      the pump will push the diesel out of that pipe pretty fast...you may get a spanner symbol on your dash but when all is connected up again and engine is run it will go out by itself once the fuel pressure is back to normal

    Because of you, I was confident to do the filter change by myself. After the change of the fuel-filter the car needs 0,5 liter fuel per 100km more than before, is that normal? Or did i something wrong?

    For me changing that fuel filter was easyer when engine was hot after driving. When I first tried cold engine those fuel hoses were too stiff also I had wrong filter from mannfilter (be sure to have that small cylinder in other end of filter). Those white clips are shit. They got broken and removing them was painful. After I removed them I used 3.5mm zipties which worked great.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  4 роки тому

      if it won't come off sometimes you have to pry the pipe off but you must be careful not to break the pipe on the filter housing and yes if the filter does not get changed it will become clogged and cause fuel starvation etc

    Thanks for this clip. What I wanted to see was how the second fuel pipe, (timeline 2.22 in your clip), was removed. There is very little space to work with when it came to pulling the pipe back. I was patiently looking forward to see how you did it but that section of film is missing. I tried to lever it gently but broke the connecting tube on the filter housing. Had to buy a complete unit. Otherwise a very well presented, down to earth, step by step guide. Thank you.

    Hi Alan, Great video thanks. As a guy who really seems to know his stuff I wonder if you may be able to give me some advice regarding my 2.0l TDCI MK5...I've only just bought it and it seems to be slightly low on power (poor acceleration) and gives poor fuel economy. (Compared to my previously owned Mk4). I've taken it to a ford dealer and there were no faults showing, but they were pretty much as good as useless as to what it could be. Its has a full service history. I'm wondering if its turbo related, I don't think its the fuel filter as I cant see that making this much difference, but maybe i'm wrong. No smoke from rear. It just doesn't have that kick that my old MK4 had. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated..Cheers Glyn

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 років тому

      hi, you are not the only one to say this, the mk5 is a bigger heavier car and it is not as quick as a mk4 2l diesel the same as the mk4 is slow compared to a mk3 2l tdci...if there was something wrong with your car i am pretty sure it would be noticeable..there are so many sensors something would be picked up by the ecu.

      I have a 180 bhp mk5, it just didn't feel as quick as I would expect. This seems a common complaint of the mk5. I had mine remapped and it totally transformed it. It now goes as well as a 180bhp should do. It also improved my fuel economy. Mine's a powershift and I was getting 36mpg before which has now gone up to 43mpg which is around town. Was the best 200 quid I spent so really recommend it

      @@robertconnors2343 Thanks for the input Robert, I'm not really clued up much on remapping...how would this affect the emissions for an M O T . Is it legal etc?? Is it something you need to have done professionally?

    • @robertconnors2343
      @robertconnors2343 5 років тому +1

      @@glynparsons9403 I've had mine done for the last 6 months and had no reliability issues and it's passed an mot since. A remap basically changes the characteristics of the ecu and changes fueling etc. It's something that's been done for years, and shouldn't cause any issues as long as it's done by a reputable company. Just search engine remap and where ever you live in Google to find companies near you and check the reviews. Honestly it's the best thing I had done to my mondeo
