    Looks to me like you are using Cal Bird's Dubbing Tool, which is a great implement. There is no need to switch to hackle pliers to wrap the dubbing loop with that tool. Just turn the spinning head to the side to engage that lower V and then use the long handle to wrap the loop without hitting your bobbin. The handle flexes as you wrap so you can keep decent tension without breaking the loop. Nice to see you using that trap wrap on the tips of the feathers. That really keeps them from accidentally slipping out when you're tying and makes a more durable fly.

    I would have thought a fly called "spey" would have some spey hackle in it. That doesn't seem to be the case all the time I am noticing. All the best to you and thanks for sharing. Sean

      Spey hackle can be alot of different types of hackle: ostrich, rhea, stripped peacock, marabou, legal heron species, etc. Good observation though and I would encourage you to investigate all of these feathers because they all swim differently!
