Is that original motor with cam the 5.7 I’m looking to rebuild my motor I got a 1996 Chevy Silverado 5.7 wanted to put cam not sure if it was a good idea for stock
LS6 valve springs and the proper springs retainers If going to use 1.6 roller tip rocker arms then the push rod holes need to be drilled to 1/2 inch to avoid damage
nuncio8 not on subject , but i got a 96 1500 5.7 a month ago from a guy who owed me some cash. Truck has rebuilt engine and sounds decent. No smoke from exhaust when i turn it on or anything and seems kinda non stock. Headers mild bolt ons and tranny work. Had spike performance stickers from the rgv and im having only one problem with it. When i get on the highway if i go wot it revs really good but it doesnt seem to accelerate to match the sound. The weird thing is it seems to accelerate more speed wise when i do this only half throttle even when rolling from a stop. If it helps when i barely turn it on in the morning and try to go wot from a stop it seems to wanna bog down and turn off,but no rough idle at all. Might it be the fuel pump is not properly feeding a recently rebuilt bored .30 over maybe and bolt on engine?
go to tuning and pick your 96-00 truck pcm, once you buy it , it'll ask all specs of your truck, every mod that you have done to it, it's really simple
Of course it will it's an ls motor these 5.7s are reliable but tbi is eeeehhhhh. I put a carb on mine I kinda wish I woulda just bought a 5.3 and built the shit out of it I've got like 3k in my whole setup you can watch my channel and see it's nothing special
@@mariogonzalez7618 not a problem. You could also do a 0411 pcm swap (computers like the LS motors use) you will have more tunability but you would have to mate the old wire harness to the new one from the 0411 pcm. I was going todo it but I’ve never had the time being I traveled for work.
Depends on the cam. Mine turned on and stayed on with the two cams it’s been through already. The timing is what will cause it. Too big of a cam would through it off to the point it will shit it off.
my phone still giving me trouble but right now my trucks in the shop need to change some stuff over on the ignition system. plus one of my spark plugs died on me right as i got there :( lol
Here I had ebay midtube headers with 3” single exhaust with a magnaflow muffler. Heads are ported on the exhaust side too so that makes a big difference.
Nice truck man, what do you think about a 291/287 cam ? I have a 1997 5.7 vortec and I’m looking a baby upgrade nothing to exaggerated just b/c I’m going to daily drive her
Well I’ve never heard of a duration that large but the factory components wouldn’t handle anything large. Intake and fuel delivery is what hold this motor back a lot.
nuncio8 I just pulled my stock cam out today. Only my 2nd day working on it but I'm doing springs too. What tune do you have on this? I'm thinking I mgonna try black bear.
I also wanted to ask did you have to tune it for this cam.? And if you did how did you tune it.? Because someone told me you cant tune this type of trucks
Depends on that the goals are. For what it does it’s fine, if you want anything north of 400hp you might as well ls swap it. Especially if you have a ton of miles on it.
Can’t remember off the top of my head at the moment. But on these pcms you can’t get a lot out of them so either one is fine if you just have bolt on’s. 411 pcm is the way you want to go if you want serious tuning capabilities.
@@nuncio8 Ok. Thanks for the response. I'd do a 411 but I can't justify it. Only doing a small cam and headers, maybe port and polish someday. In about 200k more miles I'll do an ls swap 😂
Yeah I got the 411 pcm but never got around to swapping it. It’s beem at least 5 years too lol. I might swap it with a 5.3 and just keep it simple....... but then again not one of my trucks/car is stock lol
@@nuncio8 Oh ya. I'm suprised you even comment on this video anymore to be honest. My engine is stock atm. Guy replaced it 8k miles before I bought it. Only got 15k on it rn. So I can't justify a ls swap either. Lol. Someday tho. Plan on doing a 6.0, mines more of an offroad and hauler. Heck, someday if I got money might turbo it too, doubt that'll ever happen. But I can dream 😂 Anyways, thanks for the help man. And nice truck

So 210/220 duration and .480 lift, 112 centerline? I am running a comp xfi268 218/224 113lsa and it doesn't have this idle

Are these 5.7 vortec motors flat or roller tapet camshaft ???
Those blips are fucking crisp 🤌 could listen to it all day long
Love it! My dad just handed me his 96 step side and I so exited to do what you just did to yours. Thanks for the video
Congrats, there’s definitely a big aftermarket for these trucks to have fun with. These will be big classics in the years to come.

Sweet baby Jesus I love a cammed out vortec
This is an old video but pleease if you see this can you tell me what all you needed to get to make this work, cant find answers anywhere
As far as what? The cam?
Yes, all you needed to buy for the cam
LS2 LOU , What else you needed to do in order to swap the cam
LS6 valve springs and the proper springs retainers

Can we see a 0-60 vid with this mods, cause im trying to fix mine too
the truck is down at the moment, motor was taken out about 2 months ago.
Man that sound awesome brotha. Super nice truck
Sounds amazing can I get info
And what exactly muffler
Are you from Houston or Pasadena. Truck looks familiar
Im guessing that shop is in garland had my 350 done over there as well
This was done at my house.
Do you still have the truck if you do can you upload more videos on your truck love that sound you got
Got more videos of the process to cam a 5.7?
No, didn’t have a camera for recording back then.
Truck sounds great! What exhaust tips did you use?
Does it have cats ?
Part number please and can spec I can’t see them in comments I love the sound my man I just bought 97 sierra gt and swapped a 5,7 it had a 5.0
I gotta dig for it. I’m sure I’ve posted the information on one of these videos.
What did it have done at the time of this video
I'm useing corsa 3in tips

Is this truck still efi or carbed? If still efi who did the tuning?
Pcmforless.com did it.
what type carburetor
@bigwillauto no carburetor, it’s a 1997. Fuel injected, Has a ported throttle body though.
Does the magnaflow have a certain name ? or is it just a small magnaflow
Thanks
Quick question where did you get it tuned apparently this trucks can’t be tuned or you sent the Pcm to get tuned ?
Pcmforless did it
whats the whole exhaust/header setup? and what cam?
What are cam specs @.050 and intake centerline?
Did you have to do any head work to make the ls6 valve springs fit? And what pushrods did you use?
No, just a certain spring retainer which I can’t find the part number for. Stock pushrods

Factory rollers

Is it still the stock tune?? Just bolt on and go
Tuned by PCM FOR LESS, yes
Its a bullet type....... part #14159 from summit racing
Thanks for posting. Do u think this cam is good for a daily driver?
No, for the fact that it requires a stall. Trying to run this cam on a stock stall is a pain.
What’s the best cam for daily driver
What kind of cam is that
are you still using the blackbox or 411 swap? did pcmforless send you a blackbox?
black box, yes pcmforless did send me one, you just send yours if you dont mine the truck being down

LT4 hot cam
(You’ll need a higher stall)
What year is it and what tuned
1997, tuned by pcmforless.com

Yes, almost always you have to retune
How much was the cam by itself?

1.6 roller tip rocker arms on the intake side (no tune needed)
Yeah
