Ace's stay with the Straw Hats is a little bigger in the anime because of the fillers but apart from that, Oda likes to set things up waaaay before they happen so you'll eventually (it will take a while though) know what was the author's purpose of putting Ace right here at this moment. His very last moments with the crew will become relevant but will take a long while.
Ace pretty much stayed with the crew a little longer just to see how luffy was doing and to get to know his crew, since he really cares about his lil brother. He also needed to be sure black beard wasn't in Alabasta. Ace is going to be way more important in the future, and the paper he gave to luffy as well.
You have actually seen Chaka and Pell before, they just weren’t named or onscreen for more than a few seconds. These two are in charge of the army and guarding King Cobra.
i always enjoyed the little things in one piece. like fine details in a video game that dont need to be there but its nice that it exists sort of thing. like the slice of life kinda dialog between the characters.
Ace is one of those figures that will help viewers understand parts of the world of One Piece when the time comes-- this is just an intro to him existing. They tried to hint at how strong he is without spoiling much, and that, coupled with him just staring at Luffy and crew, gives off weird vibes. He really is nice. Luffy is an idiot, but he is perceptive and has high emotional intelligence, so his most important person can't be that bad.
So that's what I was thinking at the time. I knew that ace had to be alright, because of luffy, but his long serious looks the whole time had me confused. But with the comments I think it helps clear up things. Thanks!
Ace is part of Whitebeard's crew and he's looking for Blackbeard around the grand line. Those two are obviously big names in the world, given their reference to a real life pirate; but we'll get to see that side of the story eventually. The time we just spent together with Ace is a moment where the Strawhats' story and Ace's pursuit has them at the same place and the same time for a while so we can meet him :)) and get a taste of how powerful some characters and devilfruits can be in this world. We have all the details we need for the adventure we're already on right now, tho... Whenever something becomes relevant again, you'll already know what the characters talk about.
