Hello everyone! The original backer who created No Eyes recently made a Reddit post explaining her original backstory. It's a little different from what was shown here, so check out the link if you're interested! www.reddit.com/r/HollowKnight/comments/pawsyv/no_eyess_original_story/?context=3
Wanted to add that the "They are coming what's inside of you, strip it out" might be referencing the dreams coming and she wanting to become hollow as the Vessels were. Strip out what's inside of you... Eyes could possibly be a way of doing so, because without eyes, you achieve ultimate black.
I created galien, a few things, i was the only backer to specify my character used a weapon, all the others chose magic. Though they Changed the weapon style from a big cracked nail, to a scythe. I kinda dig it tbh. Another was i created a rather detailed background that was too long and ended being cut down. Originally his concept was basically in short, he went to slay all those affected by the curse and ended up overexerting and damaging his own body leading to his death. I gave them the go ahead to change the background to whatever they needed to fit better for thier game and lore. I drew a basic design and they mostly kept it that way, it was a awesome experience that i never thought id do.
Sorry to bother you over a whole year later, but I was wondering if you were ever able to find that original drawing of Galien? Maybe in an old email somewhere? I know the HK community would get a kick out of seeing it.
Hollow Knight: Hallownest is haunted by light: No Eyes exists Hollow Knight Silksong: Pharloom is haunted by music: No Ears must therefore exist. I rest my case.

I don't know why he changed the story. You can read the original post yourself. No Eyes gouged her eyes out herself because she couldn't see her precious children attack her and she sang them a lullaby while they killed her. "what's inside you... strip it out" - Take out your eyes before it's too late, we'll die but at least we won't turn into light moth zombies. That's how I read that quote after the re-contextualization given by the original backer lore.

I really like no eye's chamber. The architecture is all different from the rest of the game. Something I think is interesting about it is that it just doesn't have any lights. Even deepnest just has empty lights in it but in are there is just nothing.
I think Marmu could still become part of the moth tribe, as being a pile of sludge in a cocoon seems like a prime time for a ancient light god to contact you and give you a power point presentation on why you should serve her
It took me the intro to realise that gorb is literally shouting "GOOOOOOORRRRRBAH" how have i not realised this?? I have 112% and all achievements and i had no idea
No Eyes is dark as hell, and I love it. I also found Marmu’s dialogue rather sad- she died protecting the garden of a hidden queen, waiting for her to teach her to fly.
No Eyes’ song IS probably the bugnish version of her original song. The “1, 2, They’re coming for you... 3, 4, better watch the floor..” still lines up with her song in game
8:45 Theory: Markoth learned/suspected the truth about the Radience, how they turned their backs on her to serve the Pale King, and more than likely came to prove his suspicions by searching and finding the moulting shell of the Pale Wyrm.
I definitely think Gorb being a godseeker has more credit than was stated "The Beyond" could very well be the "Land beyond Hallownest" the term lifeform could also be related to how godseekers are a hivemind, although i dont think that holds much weight (still probably more than aliens lmaooo)
Well, I really think Gorb died when his head exploded due to his brain growing without a stop. I mean, just look at the monument, and think about the only normal thing he says; the pain.
Samuel Dixon: Ok, so he will stay in the corners and shoot projectiles and his shield at you. Team Cherry: Yes… Say, do you mind if we took out the floor later down the line? And also create a boss who’s difficulty can rival the superboss of the game?
I personally think the background info behind Marmu is really sweet! Here we have a mother supporting her son financially, and him putting a part of her into the game. While Marmu as a character does not tie too much into the game, I feel it could be the mother's favourite animal, and the carefree and happy character may reflect her. It's heartwarming to think of it this way, and I almost hope this theory is true.
Something about gorb: Maybe the beyond is just the surface. Hallownest seems to be completely underground, with no connection to the surface. Maybe, ascending with Gorb, is going to the place he came from, the surface. Edit: I made this comment yesterday and it has so many likes already! I guess my random thoughts are good sometimes...
Very interesting theory. I imagine the surface would be an alien environment for most of the bugs in Hallownest, so it ties in with the use of the term "lifeform". It _might_ also tie in with the theory that Gorb is a Godseeker. The Godseekers come from the Land of Storms, where they worshipped the Gods of Thunder and Rain. This area seems to be above the surface since, well, there's no storms underground.
I hope somone will see this, I alweys thought that Xeros line "Ah.. I can see now. Those who turn ageinst the King are doomed as soon as they raise their weapon" is interesting. It could mean that kinds knights are simply that compedent but.. i think there is something more, that Pale Kind could pretty much paralise of straight up kill his subjects wiht his will power. Its a bit of a streach but its based on the tablets on the end of Hollownest "Those foolish enough to traverse this void must pay the toll and relinquish the precious mind this kingdom grants". If its the Pale King who gives reason to the bugs, and without him they lose it, it is possible that he fills them wiht his light sorta like Radiance does, and that he can take it awey from his subjects. Its a bit of a streach but Xero line was too specific for me, i hope its worth consideration.
Xero I always took in two ways he was a elite captain of the hallownest military fallen to the radiance. Or Xero was a elite captain who sought to overthrow the caste structure of hallownest society both the grub confirm this caste system and the prejudice of it, so Xero attempts rebellion and is subsequently crushed due to the pale king predictions alerting him to Xero's treachery.
I've always thought Gorb was a Godseeker that took off his mask and went insane because he tried to attune without it. Maybe it's how he lost connection to the godseeker's one mind as well. And technically, just because the Godseekers are wrapped up like mummies doesn't mean they aren't sluglike. In my opinion, the godseeker sitting by the lake appears sluglike. Considering we never see one walk around, it's impossible to conclude. Additionally, "mysterious life form" matches up with Godseekers as well. They aren't native to Hollownest, they came from somewhere else. If one showed up before the infection, describing it as a "mysterious life form" checks out. On top of all that, "dreamborn god of the beyond" fits in with the very *existence* of godhome. It exists in the dream realm, but beyond any normal dream, as only those attuning or being attuned to can access it
A bit late to comment on the theory, but I was thinking the godseekers might be slug like until I realised you can the the god seeker in the junk pit very clearly has limbs and isn't slug like
The fact that you used THAT music from the movie "Annihilation" in the Gorb passage fills me with joy. (the fact that you criticize the only postlogy StarWars film that was actively trying to be actual cinema, less) But Annihilation is so gooood yes x)
Marmu Lore: The queen is teaching me to fly!!!!! Xero Lore: I didn't like the king so I died Elder Hu Lore: The mantises didn't like me so I died Galien Lore: I came to this dangerous place to train. But they overwhelmed me and killed me. Markoth Lore: I'm a moth... but *violent* No Eyes Lore: *They tore out my eyes and now I will do the same to you* Gorb Lore: *A S C E N D*
I think that Marmu getting taught how to fly from The White Lady means that: He would turn into a cocoon (since cocoons hang from trees) and he would come out as a moth. (which can fly) :)
I feel like we can all relate to Marmu She died waiting for the queens return We will die waiting for silksong Btw I can’t be the only one who though marmuu had her mouth open and has black eyes?
No eyes lore, ripped out her eyes to combat infection, got murdered by her children it's deep and stuff no one: Gorb: ASCEND WITH GORB ASCEND ASCEND GREAT MIND!
Mossbag you goof The beyond most likely refers to the lands outside of hallownest; and of pale king's influence (he is situated at the howling cliffs after all). I think gorb was a bug who, amidst the mindless bugs of the "beyond", somehow got access to knowledge, and thus claimed himself as a great mind.
I’ve always thought no eyes removed her kids eyes after seeing the other bugs orange eyes she was somehow consumed by the void and the place she is talking about free from the radiance was the abyss lake
There's a chance that Thislewind isn't referring to Markoth. He is a ghost, and cannot move from his grave. Perhaps Markoth is a younger generation than Thislewind, and was trying to explore what happened to the bug Thislewind is mentioning. Maybe we'll see this mysterious bug in Silksong, still searching for whatever truth they were looking for.
It does, but having such streaks doesn’t mean that you have any relation to the void. The traitor’s child and the lord fool have these streaks and they are completely unrelated to the substance
@@np_animation6319 The trick is, don't die Seriously though, try equipping some range charms and hit them only in between the sword slashes, try to recover hp whenever you kill one of them (when there's only one alive you can safely get one hp once you dodged its attack) and yeah that's all i can tell you It's a hard boss fight, you'll make it
i don't think all ghosts are inherently unaware of death, though some definitely are. cloth is aware she is dead after the traitor lord kills her and her ghost appears, saying she's going to nola or something like that, who I assume is probably also dead from her dream dialogue if you save her after defeating the traitor lord. the bugs' attitude towards evidence of their own death might (in some cases) just be like when something happens to you and time passes and it becomes nothing but just "something that happened", though it is hard to tell
16:50 I think that might be referring to dreams or the Radiance since thats what No Eyes feared so much and is probably the reason she stripped her eyes out to prevent herself from getting infected somehow. "What's inside of you" might be a way to describe dreams.
I think gorb's backstory is simple. He lied about being smart and Bs his way to getting a statue of him and then he died and was buried there and didn't accept his death because he isn't smart
A dude was smart enough to lie about selling the Eiffel Tower twice. Another dude was smart enough to lie about needing money to build an airport that isn't real. A puny statue is nothing.
@@ibraheemshuaib8954 EXACTLY He could have had a temple built or something else that describe who the heck he was but *NO* he just wanted a stupid little statue
@person good Isn't Grubfather going to be eaten by his children from the inside-out or something along those lines? I guess it's okay as long as it involves the parent's consent. Or vore.
12:55 when I first encountered Gorb, I, *somehow*, miraculously dodged his attacks without knowing, and him seeming like a joke character, I thought he didn't even deal any damage until he started spitting 2 waves of.....whatever his projectiles are
Actually, in Kickstarter pages and dev notes, the player was called the Hollow Knight, as well as the Vessels. It likely changed during development, like Tiso.
I remember when you uploaded your smash predictions video and every comment said 'this isn't hollow knight'. I just want you to know that I liked that video very much, that I support all your content, and that I think silhouette jokes are absolutely hilarious. Laughing out loud at 1:37.
"All dream warrior bosses were designed by Kickstarter backers..." So what you're telling me, is that relatively speaking, you could track down the guy who though Markoth was a good idea make him regret thinking that. Oh boi, what a mistake to reveal his name.
God I've been waiting for this video forever. I love the dream warriors especially no eyes. Also I have a theory regarding gorb. The Pale King's ability to ascend the minds of other bugs is something ypou touched on briefly but I think there is a chance Gorb was a creature who was "over ascended" if you will. "Ascend with gorb" could be about like the solitariness of being the smartest creature. I think after being over ascended Gorb got some level of a cult following him because of his knowledge of supposedly all things as seen by the statue "here lies Gorb, the great mind" The knowledge got to him and began to cloud gorb's mind, overflowing preventing him from remebering even basic things 'I am...am Gorb!"+"I... I am...". I think this would fit into his being god of the beyond maybe as in the world outside of hallownest. A bug from the outside given infinite knowledge and sentience would fit a god of the beyond.
I have been just chilling in my bed this whole day, watching your videos. Yesterday one of your videos was recomended to me and i love em. Great content and super interesting for me being a Hollow Knight lore newbie 😅👍 Great videos 🖐

Theory: Markoth learned/suspected the truth about the Radience, how they turned their backs on her to serve the Pale King, and more than likely came to prove his suspicions by searching and finding the moulting shell of the Pale Wyrm.
I definitely think Gorb being a godseeker has more credit than was stated

Destroying the infection inside a dream? I think Xero was onto something and we were none the wiser.
“What happened to the other backers you ask? Well, that’s a good question.”

Something about gorb:
Maybe the beyond is just the surface.
Aren't the Howling Cliffs above ground? I like this theory, but if Gorb is found above ground anyways, where does he ascend to?
@@SpitFyre37 i think howling cliffs is still in a cave

I hope somone will see this,
I alweys thought that Xeros line "Ah.. Its a bit of a streach but Xero line was too specific for me, i hope its worth consideration.
streach
You fool. The pale king is a mafioso.
English
Xero I always took in two ways he was a elite captain of the hallownest military fallen to the radiance.
Or
Xero was a elite captain who sought to overthrow the caste structure of hallownest society both the grub confirm this caste system and the prejudice of it, so Xero attempts rebellion and is subsequently crushed due to the pale king predictions alerting him to Xero's treachery.
It exists in the dream realm, but beyond any normal dream, as only those attuning or being attuned to can access it
This comment is already so old but damnn I like this theory a lot
A bit late to comment on the theory, but I was thinking the godseekers might be slug like until I realised you can the the god seeker in the junk pit very clearly has limbs and isn't slug like

Mossbag you goof
The beyond most likely refers to the lands outside of hallownest; and of pale king's influence (he is situated at the howling cliffs after all).
Thistlewind mentions that the bug was a moth and that they died in the kingdoms edge though so it's most likely there referring to Markoth.
It's definitely Markoth.
I reckon it is Markoth, and I think that links to the mystery of the Colosseum that was originally gonna be in the game if that makes sense?
A Guts-inspired bug makes sense for Hollow Knight. Even the music and some of the levels reminds me of Berserk.

i don't think all ghosts are inherently unaware of death, though some definitely are. cloth is aware she is dead after the traitor lord kills her and her ghost appears, saying she's going to nola or something like that, who I assume is probably also dead from her dream dialogue if you save her after defeating the traitor lord. the bugs' attitude towards evidence of their own death might (in some cases) just be like when something happens to you and time passes and it becomes nothing but just "something that happened", though it is hard to tell

You have team cherry to blame for godhome's no floor fight. That was all them
God I've been waiting for this video forever.
