Michelle Pfeiffer did all the whip stunts, put a real bird in her dang mouth and she had to be sewn into the catsuit every day and couldn't use the bathroom at all while filming. She's the GOAT of the entire Batman franchise.
And it’s one of her favorite roles to date. She wants to reprise the role
You can find BTS footage of her doing the whip routine in the store online. She did that routine in *one* take! You can hear the whole crew applauding after.
Michael Keaton,Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito will always be the best ❤🙂
@@danielallen3454 I hate that she did it and then they cut around it in the movie
@@danielallen3454 I literally just watched that clip just a few days ago of her hitting all her targets with her whip. So cool!
My favorite Batman movie of all time! Michelle ATE the role of Catwoman, no crumbs left!
Literally one of my favorite movies ever.
God. We grew up with some weird crazy shit back in the day. I love it. So glad we got to share this one with you, J. Awesome fucking editing, Blank. I think we'd all love to see a proper Batman 3 with Burton, Keaton, and Pfeiffer even after all these years. Hell it's the only reason I'll eventually rent the new Flash movie. I was so disappointed with the next two and Nolan's trilogy never vibed with me. Batfleck was a non-starter. The only live action Batman to really grab me since Returns was The Batman (2022).
Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman is the first celebrity crush growing up and the reason I have I thing for toxic women
this was fun to see you react to. i dont f*ck with burton anymore, i still enjoyed your first experience of it. especially your response to catwoman 😂😏
I was little when this came out. I remember my parents saying its “so dark.” I loved it. So goth and wonderfully dark. Its the last one like this. I tried a hundred times to get the catwoman make up down. Damned hooded eyelids. Never happened(lol)The tim burton era was fantastic. I still watched the other batman movies after. I liked them but they aren’t as good as these.IMO.
As bane said “you merely
adopted the dark” the following movies i feel force this fake dark facade. There is more colour more vibrance, more comedy. Better for younger audiences. But people(adults) grew tired. Kids got bored. Eventually batman was surpased by spiderman movies. Other comic superheros came out. Then the nolan movies. Finally batman was taken seriously again. Till affleck but thats another day.
The nxt one is good too we not gon talk about the last one tho
So.... I was 8 when this came out.... and I seen it in theater.
The scene in which Bruce and Selena both realise who the other really is at Shreck's party is my favourite scene out of all the Batman movies.
You notice their the only two without masks? Rather suggests that their costumed personas *are* their real selves, and the civilian persona is the disguise. I *LOVE* this movie!
There's just a beautiful saddness to it that wasn't played out long enough.
@@Warvvolf It is great that Bruce immediately accepts her.
No one beats Michelle as Catwoman, no one. She was perfect for the role
She was so meow. :)
It's wild too when there's been so many amazing actors to play the role, yet somehow Michelle stands above them all.
Eartha Kitt
She was prrrrrrrfect
She's the ONLY Catwoman. The only 1
"I think I need to stop watchin' this movie."
Many times I cannot express how funny and real J is. Oh man, Blank was right, J's reaction to Catwoman is totally priceless.
Somebody has to make a compilation video called "J's Greatest Reaction Moments".
We did a two hour long year one “best of” video back in March. Covered the first whole year.
HIGHLY recommend it. LoL
Your Catwoman rant had me in stitches! I'm sure many men have had your reaction; you're the one willing to tell the rest of us!!
Haha, "stitches"
me too, I couldn't stop laughing.
Christopher Walken's character's name, Max Shreck was taken from the name of the German actor Max Schreck, who played the vampire in the 1922 German silent movie "Nosferatu" - it's considered to the very first full length horror film.
It's fair to say that most of Hollywood's movies were inspired by the so called "German expressionism" of the 1920s (especially Star Wars, Blade Runner and most of Burton's movies) but Batman Returns is by far the most obvious case. Gotham even looks like Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" (1927)
"Nosferatu" almost disappeared. The movie was made without getting permission from the Stoker estate and they sued. A judge ruled in their favor and declared that all copies had to be destroyed. Most were, but a few copies here and there survived. Since they were on silver nitrate film, mit was lucky that any of those few survived at all.
How so with Blade Runner? Genuinely curious. Being well aware of Philip K Dick and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep... Cinematically or the story being inspired or derivative? I've never heard this so, any info is appreciated.
True. Just like Conrad Veidt's role as Gwynplaine in the 1928 film The Man Who Laughed was the inspiration for the joker in the 1940s Batman comics
Your reaction to Catwoman is so on point! Hell, I’m a gay guy, and she had me contemplating switching teams for a night or two. 🔥 🐈⬛ 🤣🤣🤣
I'm a straight woman and wouldn't mind a little flirt with Catwoman (played by Michelle Pfeifer)
Hey J, as much as you like Michelle Pfeiffer (and who doesn't!), you should watch her in Wolf with Jack Nicholson! It's a really cool movie that doesn't get many reactions, and I think you'd enjoy it. Peace! 👊🏻
GREAT MOVIE!
Yes..... Or "Tequlia Sunrise" with Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell.... Or "The Fabulos Baker Brothers" with Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges....
Or in What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford... but my all time fave is Grease 2 where she plays Stephanie and her singing is AMAAAAAAAAAZING!!!!
You've two men. Both from wealthy, prominent families. Both with their childhoods stolen from them. One by his parents, because he was a freak. One made into a freak because his parents were stolen. God, I love this movie! It's so much deeper than people ever gave it credit for. And you're absolutely right about Devito. His performance is *NOT* subtle. But he's also not overacting. The *Penguin* is overacting. But Devito never does. That takes talent. Only real problem I have? Max Shreck is not nearly a cool enough guy to have Siouxie Sioux playing during his party.
The Cobblepotts were wealthy & prominent family? Comparable to Waynes?
Depending on who's doing the writing at the time? Yes. Generally.@@LarrySwishamane
Bro… I was 12 when this came out… Michelle Pfeiffer as Cat Woman changed my entire world… 🤯 😍
I was of a similar age and I got really into collecting the trading cards from this movie. Got the full set and then never collected anything else again. It wasn't the cards I was interested in. lol
@@LordRae Funny I just put a comment up I got the same 100 set trading cards as a teen girl ha. I still have them perfect condition so sexy all the little images of her LOL got for the same reasons
At 12, you stopped being a kid and became a man...
I was the same age... This was the first movie I ever saw 3 times in the theater. There were so many magazines and merch out that summer. I had a cardboard cutout of Catwoman, Batman Returns poster, I made my own collage from movie stills in the magazines on a poster board, a tee shirt, my diary! It was ridiculous.
"Is that Pee-Wee Herman?!"
If JL hasn't seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure, we need that reaction. Tell him Large Marge recommends it 😉
I can picture his expression...🫨
STFU!!
I lost it with the Catwoman rant. OMG 😅🤣😆🤣😅
I consider this to be the best live-action Batman film ever made. There's a subversive edge, boldness, and sadness that Tim Burton brought to this that set it apart from all the others, even the '89 original. This is a true masterpiece.
Giving dark, almost horror movie level, takes on classic villains is where Returns shines. Sewer monster Penguin and undead/revenant Catwoman are fantasticly divergent from previous iterations.
Yo agreed! Absolutely ADORE this film!
I wish Michelle returned to Catwoman in the movie Catwoman. That's why Halle Berry got the role. Pfeiffer woulda been better
@@LordVolkov"sewer monster Penguin" and "undead/revenant Catwoman" are, oddly enough, the most impactful characters in the film.
They're written so beautifully, it's ridiculous.
@@reservoirdude92 "You're just jealous, because I'm a genuine freak and you have to wear a mask!
You might be right".
I've had those lines rattling in my soul since 1992. Why am I the only one who finds them *so* impactful?
The darkest and most controversial Batman movie ever made.
It was considered to be so dark and violent, some McDonald's restaurants refused to sell any of their toys regarding a PG-13 rating.
I saw this in the theater when it came out, and the movie immediately got a reputation for being extremely dark for a Batman movie. But the one thing EVERYONE was talking about was Michelle Pfeiffer in that Catwoman suit. She was the main draw after the opening weekend. Of course I was in the Army at the time, and watching this movie in a military theater was…. entertaining.
This Penguin really could scare kids. Very disturbing. As an adult the character is very interesting, as a kid, freaky stuff.
Somewhere on the DVD commentary, one of the producers says something to the effect of "When the film ends, when you are seeing it with a real audience, as you come out, you had adults lookin' like they'd been punched in the stomach, kids crying, etc." And that he is, too this day, kinda PROUD of that. Always makes me glad.
I’m never disappointed here. I’m on an emotional rollercoaster every video. I laughed the whole time for this one.
I was laughing all the way through this reaction. Loved it.
Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Paul "Pee-Wee" Reubens also played the Penguin's father in the Gotham TV show. But he was a lot nicer there.
Hands down, no debate, best Batman movie ever. We got robbed when Burton didnt do a 3rd.
He was technically locked out of doing the third one by the producers and studio refusing to allow him to continue the story in the same style.
Which is a damn shame, and why they NEED to bring Tim Burton in to direct a live action Batman Beyond with Keaton as old man Bruce.
From admitting how terrified and turned on he was to “Blank might’ve been right”.
I scream laughed so loud I’m sure 8 houses around could hear me.
Yes, Billy Dee Williams as Two Face would have been amazing. And even though the next two Batman movies aren't as well received, they're still definitely worth a watch, and I'm sure your reactions will elevate the experience even more, so I'll be looking forward to those👍
Over the years Returns has become my favorite Keaton Batman movie, because of Pfeiffer's performance.
EOM, your reaction to the mistletoe scene was probably the funniest thing I've seen on this channel. Thanks for that and all that you do.
It was a privilege to have worked on this film. So much fun. Although the entire set was refrigerated and we all got sick from it. I saw Michelle Pfeiffer up close and I was without words. One of the future villains showed up on set set one day. That was a surprise. Amazing reaction my friend.
Thank you and that’s amazing that you got to work on the set of this movie. I know you got to see all kinds of cool stuff - J
What did u do?
What other credits uWorked on?
Was it Liam Neeson? Arnold?
Arnold dropped by. I've worked on many, many films and TV shows.
The tear after she asks "Does this mean we have to start fighting?"
i haven’t watched this movie in years so i’d forgotten a lot of it, but you are always so damn entertaining ❤ also i love it when y’all miss a bleep-out moment!
6:30 - 7:30 😂😂 Rom scratching around and making his nest in the blankets is the cutest thing ever! Kinda distracting but very cute ❤❤ Also, I don't care.. Michelle Pfeiffer is THE Catwoman.. ❤
This is the only Batman movie I had never seen start to finish. I checked it out tonight just so I watch your reaction. I always heard how great Michelle Pfeiffer was but man she was even better than everyone said 😩
Michelle will be my favorite Catwoman there is no one better then her and I've watch this movie like 20 times
I fell in love with Michelle Pfeiffer when I saw this as a young man and now at 50+ years of age I'm still in love with this woman🤣
Michelle Pfeiffer makes us all feel like that, she s definitely the sexiest Catwoman ever put to screen and awesome reaction man.
I loved how Batman and the Penguin were looking at each other when Catwoman showed up like " you seeing this right?"
Danny Devito really killed this role, he was so good they thought he was too scary. lol
Edit- Also no one has been able to come close to Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman, best version imo.
Tim Burton & Danny Elfman make such a perfect combination. Catwoman was my first screen crush too bc, well, obviously. These movies felt like an actual comic book & it's still awesome. Thx for the video, thx for the edit, & thx for hanging out Co-Pilots 😎
Such a goddamn shame that they didn't have Batman spinning-heal kick a few of those penguins. Imagine that scene playing out. I would have laughed so hard.
"I didn't know Catwoman was a zombie".
Bro. I have been laughing at that for five whole minutes!
I just met one of Michelle Pfeiffer's younger sisters DeeDee (Dorothy) last Saturday July 1st. She's really pretty like her sister. When i was a kid, Michelle was a cashier at the only supermarket in my hometown before she was famous. She was always really hot.
You at 27:24 was absolutely priceless.
"Well at least she pushed the button." @ 30:43 OMG. LOL!!!!!
Michelle Pfeiffer was beautiful in this movie. I watched this with my mom. My dad took my brother to see Rambo
your brother missed out on this one 😂 no shade intended for rambo

Great Batman theme music!
Eartha Kit is one of a kind...I used to practice sounding like her, rolling my tongue and gutteral purring!😂
Michelle Pfeiffer honored her(E.K.) and made it her own....soooo amazing!
still gotta watch the OG batman with Eartha Kitt. you reminded me to! thank you!
@@subtlesraf My pleasure...she is legendary. Hope you enjoy the show.☺
The OG Penguin played by Burgess Meredith(Mickey in the Rocky movies) I always loved when I was a kid, he was so well dressed but Ms. Kitt with the rolling r’s, I also spent hours practicing trying to sound like her 😂
@@dianedavid3052 I totally forgot about Mick being the Penguin! Thank you☺ He was fantastic too!!!
She really used that whip too, the cleaning the heads off the mannequins scene was legit. There’s behind the scene footage you can look up of her practicing the scene and getting it first try
If you had Batman Returns on the Super Nintendo your childhood was awesome!
burn baby burn
“He look like Humpty Dumpty.” 😂😂😂 still my favourite Batman movie to this day ❤
Michelle Pfeiffer was absolutely singular in this role.
A good reaction with Christopher Walken would be 'Dead zone' 1983. It's from a Stephen King book. There's no 🐮🛎 though.😁
Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars: “This hit, that ice cold, Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold”
Riptide by Vance Joy: “I swear she's destined for the screen, Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you've ever seen”
Yeah, Michelle Pfeiffer is something special. And I’m a straight woman! 🤣💙💙💙
Definitely a different kind of Batman movie but Phiffer makes it. "The Pork-Chop Express" T-shirt is legit!
LISTEN... lol... y'now, the surreal part about watching first time movie reactors is when they watch someone older either playing someones mom (Pfeiffer as Wasp's mama in AntMan) or comic relief (Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin) or just as a secretary (Paltrow in all the Iron Man flicks) and that's that, not realizing the massive ton of work they already did. I mean, to see them in their 'prime'. Long-story-short(ish), while I go look up what knuckle babies means, lol, I'll just say amongst her insane body of work like Scarface, Ladyhawke, Witches of Eastwick, Married to the Mob (a personal guilty pleasure)... I hope you try her 1989's The Fabulous Baker Boys. Even if you didn't have a slot left to do an official posting, just something o yer own time, close the curtains, lol, and enjoy some great performances with a big ole grin on yer face the whole time. Please!
Michelle Pfeiffer deserved an Oscar for her performance!
Can't wait to see what J thinks of Val kilmer and George Clooney's rolls as Batman!!!
Teenage mutant ninja penguins ??!? ok I'm here for it.
Don't know if you're going to watch the whole Marvel series but you definitely need to watch ALL the Antman movies.
“Oh, she’s dead! Her stunt double’s about to come back and be Catwoman!” 🤣🤣🤣 GREAT reaction, as always!
Funniest $#@& ever on this channel. 😂
I haven’t seen this movie in YEARS. Great reaction!
Danny Devito told Tim Burton about changing his saliva into black.
The black saliva was a concoction that the makeup and special effects people made. Basically, it's kind of like mild mouthwash with food colouring in it. Looks dope. Look at it closey dont be a wimp. Lol
Return of the living dead 1985. I’ve forgotten how many videos I’ve left this on now lmao.
Already 6 months pregnant....im dead 😅
"That's why he different, PeeWee Herman his daddy" 🤣
omg whenever they toss the crib over now I can't not hear the PeeWee laugh
Saw this in theaters when I was eight. Pretty sure it was around Christmas…
Btw, probably laughed at this more than any other reaction to date. Thanks, J. Great editing, Blank. Cheers.
Me too!
Batman Returns was released in the Summer. You probably just associated it with Christmas because the setting is Christmas.
@@Osprey850 - mine was a small theater market. In those days, they'd extend their theatrical runs

26:10 what is the rating on this? This movie had an effing happy meal. Let's just say that McDonalds and some early 90s Karens were upset enough that when it came time to do a Batman 3 they asked Tim Burton if we wanted to make a different movie instead.
We've seen one of the "Funeral Penguins" before. One of them was Debbie Lee Carrington who played "Thumbelina" in the bar in the original "Total Recall".
"knuckle babies everywhere" totally slayed me LoL
I deadass forgot Pee Wee Herman is Penguins daddy.
Great reaction as always big bro 👍
both Tim Burton Batman movies are incredible and hold a special place in my heart forever
My man, this was the film that birthed my bisexual ass. Oh my god, that catsuit…
My boy had to stop the whole movie to talk about how bad Michelle Pfeiffer was lol.
I nearly choked when you gave that look to the camera after Michelle Pfeiffer licked her own arm 😅😭😭
Listen…I couldn’t have been there next to that. The rating of the movie would have changed 🤣🤣🤣 - J
She'd have been walking around like Penguin after that ..... Mate, you can't say shit like that it's 6am here I nearly choked on my breakfast. I laughed so much 😂😂😂😂 best reviewer on you tube by a mile ❤❤
Lol I promise you she would have been waddling - J
Awesome Movie and Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
Michelle as Catwoman is best and Michael as always killed it. In this movie I am surprised they didn't make a litter of babies the way the chemistry was going. I love both of Tim Burton's Batman movies so much.
The penguin was nightmare fuel when i was a little kid.
All I gotta and need to say about this movie... Michelle Pfeiffer.
I believe you would love THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI ACROSS THE 8th DIMENSION.
This really puts the character "Frank" from "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" into perspective. "Frank" is just as filthy as "The Penguin" lol
I think you should do a collaboration with Ashleigh Burton (Awkward Ashleigh/Millennial Movie Mondays). I think you guys would have a blast reacting together
I agree. I follow her as well and just watched her to a video with another reviewer watching troy.Troy.. I would soooooo watch that. I love JL regardless though lol. Always a good time to pass my work time.
" he looks like he kills people for real"
Well he certainly has Natalie Woods spirit hanging over him to some degree. Not saying he did it but he was there 😂
Michelle pffiefer is the best Catwoman ever
@JL Glad you saw this, I was so happy to get more Keaton Batman in the Flash. An yes we all can appreciate how good Pfeiffer was as Catwoman
“Babies everywhere”
Make it a t shirt or I quit
Best Batman movie out there. Yep, I said it. Heath Ledger was outstanding, but one performance does not a good movie make.
I was 13 years old when this came out. Parent made so much noise about how dark and violent this was which plummeted Batman and Comic Book Movies in general back then. But as a kid, this movie was absolutely AWESOME! And I still love it to this day
If you think Michelle Pfeiffer was sexy in this, you HAVE to watch Tequilla Sunrise!!!! I fell in lust with her in that one! Damn, now I'm going to have to stay up late and watch Tequilla Sunrise for the hundredth time.
This is my favorite Batman “movie”. Though, my favorite “Batman” is Val Kilmer. And he is up next in Batman Forever. Which would have been a far cooler title if it was the fourth Batman film.
Tim Burtons Batman movies are top tier. Theres something extra creepy about them. Love Tims style. ❤
10:34 comment. #movierelated "Balls Of Fury"-Ernie Moore Jr.
This one's my favorite 🙂 I was 12 when I saw this. Batman Forever is next with Jim Carrey,Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones as Two Face. And we get Robin.
I honestly really disliked the Penguin in this one. Too nasty looking, too much of everything. But I grew up on Burgess Meredith's Penguin.
Fuck yeah! Michelle Pfeiffer looked mighty super duper fine in that cat suit. And nobody has topped it off. She was simply so beautiful!
Every time you had to stop and rationalize how Catwoman is so hot I was just sitting here like "LET HIM COOK"
crying laughing at this and your reaction to cat woman =). Catwoman posters probably sold like hotcakes after this movie!
I had the biggest crush on Julie Newmar when I was younger watching classic reruns of the TV show😍, but Michelle owned the role
37:14 comment There's an old thing for early theater performers and might be street performers in Europe, like England, like Showtime At The Apollo booing, they would be in the market place or it was there lunch perhaps in the theater, and it's like stoning but legal because these break-up on impact perhaps A kinder form of stoning where food is plenty and a market was near and fun for mean kids because it's messy. -EMJ
But Stereotypically it was a thing people did when they did not like a performer's performance. It used to be a thing.-Ernie Moore Jr.
Man, if you wanna see a young, crazy Chris Walken, The Deer Hunter will blow your mind in multiple ways.
I was 11 years old when I saw this and my thoughts about Michelle Pfeiffer mirrored yours! lol
Love that t-shirt you're wearing btw. 😎
