I'm not the smartest in smash because I havent played it since being a kid but why do people even discredit him for using jigg? If the character is that strong shouldn't other pros be picking it up also? If anything it credits his skill for being able to play a character that no one else can to that point
lol Something like this happened on alex's stream. Alex19: I wouldn't cry if I won something like that. Twitch chat: Yeah you're right, You'd fucking kill someone because you can't contain your excitement/strength. Alex:...ok you're not wrong.
I'm just so happy that he made this huge run. it's always so exciting when someone makes a glorious comeback like his. very proud of HungryBox. Favorite smash god lol
remember his interview after dreamhack last year? His dad told him that he'll never be the best, he might be one of the greats but never the best. Ever since then he's been a man possessed to be number 1. Fuck dude, solo-maining puff for 10 years he's finally proved that its his time to be the number 1 guy.
Yesterday was the first time in my life that I was hyped AF for a puff, lol I still can't believe It. Hbox played perfectly, he uses all the advantages and covers all the weaknesses of puff, and also he wasn't camping or jumpin in the ledge like past year, he played offensively, with a genius defense at the same time. He made it, he win like a god.
While I don't disagree, it's not like Hungrybox won the matchup entirely on his own. There were multiple occasions where Armada could've easily closed the set but failed to capitalize. Clutchbox is clutchbox though.
That singular side b offstage ended up costing him the tourney. Which is porbably one of the reasons he was so devastated. Still good shit to hbox, not discrediting him.
I know, sometimes I get scared, fighting the puff lord. But I think eventually Armada just accepted 666XX and it actually helped him play better near the end (also hbox missed some obv punishes so I'm like 'eh')
What's funny about this is that his path to this was really straightforward. He went to college and got a job as a normal person would, while still playing this game and getting top spots. Then he got a coach to guide him the rest of the way, like any sports team. It's so... Traditional. Goes to show there's a reason why there's been a coach for sports for this long. And it won't change even in the esports scene.
Although I don't find Hungrybox entertaining to watch all the time, he does have the charisma, courage, and personality on stage to make him one of my favorite players.
+Allmageddon343 he won last years but he is really sad about it his family asked him if he won and he started to tear up that's what he said on his Twitter he wanted the second title so badly just to tie with mangos win but this year he couldn't
If you don't know his backstory of his step father telling him he'll never be the best then it probably is cringy. Having known that and watching this live I thought it was a pretty great moment.
"with jiggs as she is" you mean an amazing character that fits hungrybox AND has the objective tools to be one of the best characters in the game? yeah man
ShortBusGangster Yea, but still winning grand finals at EVO while working 40 hours a week and still having the power to take on both mango and armada, well, it shows that he is the only one that can do that. Plus he mastered Puff a long time ago, so the only thing I'm impressed about is how he wasn't worn out during the tournament. He showed minimal mistakes out of everyone after working his (probably) 5-day job duties! If I were en engineer, there would be no way in high hell I could accomplish what he just did if I had his level of skill.
Hbox w/Jacket = Loss Hbox w/o Jacket = EVO 2016 CHAMP I'm glad that hbox won, but now I'm hoping that Armada just bulldozes through every tournament and destroys everyone at EVO 2017.
The most beautiful thing about Hbox, is how grateful and humble he is. I don't think I've ever seen a player so ecstatic to win, nor as graceful in defeat. I don't always enjoy Hbox's matches, because I lack the patience to properly enjoy the tension of his slower sets, but if there's a single person that exemplifies just how much heart goes into playing a game like Melee, it's Hbox every day and every time. Every time he wins, you feel it. Good on you, Hbox. The race for the 3vo begins.
+DaJuan "Energy" McDaniel Yeah I want to know how much people were watching on ESPN2, cuz srkevo1 stream got up to 165k viewers for SFV,if we add the 2 up, then we will know how much people were watching, but at the same time, Melee got up to 220k viewers, and were also people watching Melee on TopangaTV so those need to be added up as well, I know for fact that TopangaTV reached up 20k viewers during Melee so it is still very possible that Melee was the most watched event at EVO, in other words Melee reached almost 240k viewers overall, that imo is really saying something

Hbox could probably tell Armada was really upset and didn't want to seem patronizing or whatever. I'm sure they're cool IRL, it's just that high-level competition like that gets really intense emotionally.
One of the best sets of all time, this grand finals. Crazy comebacks on both sides and went all the way to game 10. Both played so well but hbox is the master of clutch and found the openings when he needed them most, every time. What a time to be a melee fan.
Man, watching this again just made me happy. After the gut wrenching tension of that whole set yesterday, Hbox deserved that win. He played so out of his mind amazing, and got one of the best and most important clutches in his tournament career to reset the bracket. Hbox has always been my favorite smasher, and to see him win this tournament gets me almost as emotional as it got him. Well made video GR, made this moment even better.
+ThatDudePraXis lol armada may have 2 big tourney wins but hbox has CEO and EVO plus all the other summer wins he has on top of second place finishes all around. He was number one before evo but this just solidified it.
Huge respect to Hungrybox, my forever favorite player he really deserves that title. Also great job on the video, made me cry because I was so happy watching it a second time.
+TheTintedHalo I was there live and I think the people next to me might have thought I was fucking crazy because I popped off like 5 times and lost my voice!
Most diehard Melee fans I know bitch about anything that isn't Fox/ Shiek/ Marth/ or C. Falcon. If it don't go fast it is booooooring. Luckily, I'm not an uncultured swine, and can appreciate footsies.
I was so disappointed when mang0 got knocked out, I thought this set would be nothing special and it turned out to be the most hype set of the whole tournament. Mang0's 3 stock comeback on zhu and westballz vs nintendude are up there as well. Still happy for hbox, he got his long deserved evo win, and just barely bested armada. You can tell he absolutely played his heart out and you gotta respect that
probably the greatest edit of a players run at a event ever. I loved the calm music with the announcers to keep the emotion of the event. so with the commentators. the editing style was perfect for this type of montages.
Bruh. Melee is not scripted. If everyone intentionally lost it would be obvious. I like Mango as much as the next guy but his rabid fans are pretty cancerous
it was so easy to see. as soon as it got to hbox vs mango scar seemed very sad almost as if he knew what was going to happen. armada didnt shake hbox's hand because hbox went off script like a fucker. mango and armada were supposed to be in grands. thankfully the melee back room will punish hbox for this and we will have mango armada grands to show the world truly how great this game is at the next evo.
Hbox played, better, faster, and cooler than ever. I like how he's trying to speed up his game unlike last year where he tried slowing it down. I can think of very few sets as hype as this GFs
Personally I consider this one of your best videos. The music combined with the fantastic work of Hungrybox and his emotional outbreak at the end is just amazing.
Mango said: "Remember to lose to Armada in Grand Finals! We'll keep you on payroll to stick to the script." But in defiance Hbox said: "No! I'm winning Evo! I'm going off script!"
Once again, like the m2k video, an amazing choice of music. Really captures the mystical atmosphere surrounding a man who was worked tirelessly for the past months and years, following him to his pinnacle of achieving his ultimate goal of winning the largest tournament held. His tears after victory were genuinely filled with joy, disbelief, and awe of what great power that he contains. Cheers and congrats to you HBox
So I am a "Hbox hater" I don't enjoy watching him play. Don't like the constant use of bairs and don't like constantly similar ways of killing. BUT I will never discredit the fact that he has skill
Same. Don't like Juan, don't like his Jigglypuff. But man if he isn't the most clutch fucking player out there. It's unbelievable the shit he pulls off in last stock/last game scenarios.
Bair is arguably the best aerial in the game. Lag less start and one hell of a fucking hitbox. Nah dur he would use the best move in the game a lot. Also, he likes to take his characters to the blast zone with the infamous walls of pain.
to see someone's hard work and incredible passion finally pay off in such a spectactular fashion... now that's really something. you can feel his emotion. amazing
"Welp, Evo is done with, but because I couldn't watch all the events because I was busy, I'll just have fun checking out all the archives this week! And I'll save the best, mah Melee, for last. Man, I can't wait to check it out and see who won!" **Sees this thumbnail in the recommendeds of a Caddicarus video** "....siiiiiggh.... Lesson learned. Never log into UA-cam during EVO season...."
That said, my annoyance was immediately followed by excitement. Hungrybox taking Evo is fantastic. I love watching that dude's Jiggs and I enjoy his passion. Nice to see he brought home the big one once again. ...wish I could've seen it first hand, but oh well.
This is one of the best sets I've ever watched, so glad I got to be at Evo this year. It really represents how far Melee has come, too. The game has gone from underground communities to a full stadium of fans at the biggest tournament of all time. I think Hbox's win really emphasized how overwhelming the whole experience is, and I think he was the perfect candidate to represent that feeling.
Say what you want, but I love Hungrybox, and knowing how much he wanted and deserved this win, made me actually tear up when he won. The chills during those sets were insane. This video brings them back. His face is priceless after each win. It doesn't get more genuine than that.
i cried. Thats how powerful and great this community is. Hungrybox definetley showed why he is one of the 5 Gods of Ssbm. Very good run. The best ive seen in years.
There's a reason why you don't quit, Hungrybox has shown this time and time again. Nothing feels better than watching a guy go through hell, not quitting and coming out on top. This is one of my favorite moments in Sports as a whole. I put this up there, in my personal book, with Darren Elkins vs Mirsad Bektic, this man was getting his ass kicked for three rounds and he came out on top he didn't give up even though his face looked so beaten. Apply these lessons and turn it into motivation whether it be an MMA fight, a melee tournament or generally in your life. He had the want to just walk away, but he didn't and he clutched out the tournament. This was the biggest stage melee had in the last time we would see a game on this scale, walking away with the W must have been a dream come true for him.
Armada vs Hbox was hands down the most hype set I've ever seen.
smashladder chat, twitch chat, etc were all like RIP tourney over Armada will beat hbox in a boring set, then it became the most hype set of top 8
Definitely hyped me up, even though I don't usually watch Melee.
Hungrybox was incredible.
I feel he definitely rewatched his game last year and decided to push his aerial combos a lot harder
Zenith Tempest Crunch's coaching probably helped
Unfathomable
Frustrates me to see people discrediting Hbox because of using Jiggs. He played beautifully with that character and won
+Nope Plus same here, man. People that don't understand Jiggs say that she takes no skill. Hbox is an example of the opposite of that statement.
I would rather have Armanda win but ehh congrats to Hbox
I usually feel frustrated on his opponents behalf trying to fight jiggs. He super deserves a win at last though.
It's getting old hearing people hate. This man has skill. Got the crowd super hyped and displayed some of the best melee. Best in the world hands down
I'm not the smartest in smash because I havent played it since being a kid but why do people even discredit him for using jigg? If the character is that strong shouldn't other pros be picking it up also? If anything it credits his skill for being able to play a character that no one else can to that point
His entire run proves that even if you're down, you're not out.
You couldn't have said it any better, Alax. This was the single most greatest run I have ever seen.

Ikr at smash 4 I could barely see them play and couldn't even get seats in the front to watch the projector
+Pone Aples why? Because smash 4 was treated badly.
Smash 4 had more entrants and a bigger community but the venue and schedule was total shit. 2nd biggest game at evo .
Eventhough Smash 4 had 2600 and was the second biggest game but EVO treated Smash 4 like shit!
Fuck Evo
Melee was great tho
+alejandro aguilar Yeah but melee got a lot more viewers. like it was crazy.
Every single fucking time I see Hungrybox’s reaction and the crowd cheering for him, I want to cry man. So fucking awesome and emotional.

I thought the same, Hbox hugged Armada last Evo when he lost. But Armada just felt too crushed after losing I assume.

Armada was salty af but I'm pretty sure he congratulated him via Twitter.
One of the best sets of all time, this grand finals. Crazy comebacks on both sides and went all the way to game 10. Both played so well but hbox is the master of clutch and found the openings when he needed them most, every time. What a time to be a melee fan.

Yea you right, Peach a pretty thicc bih.
@@polarbits well they ARE both girls...

Hbox is the god damn best, man. Infinitely fun to watch, and I've always loved players who wear their hearts on their sleeves.
He is not fun to watch. It is boring as shit. I liked the s2j vs westballz match better than any match with Hbox.
+Dragyn are you saying...these sets weren't hype for you?
+Dragyn salt
Most diehard Melee fans I know bitch about anything that isn't Fox/ Shiek/ Marth/ or C. Falcon. If it don't go fast it is booooooring. Luckily, I'm not an uncultured swine, and can appreciate footsies.
Maury: “Juan, you ARE the father!”
Hungrybox: 5:10
Probably the most clutch performance in all of gaming
I’m glad that this popped up in my recommended, such a great time
I was so disappointed when mang0 got knocked out, I thought this set would be nothing special and it turned out to be the most hype set of the whole tournament. Mang0's 3 stock comeback on zhu and westballz vs nintendude are up there as well.
Still happy for hbox, he got his long deserved evo win, and just barely bested armada. You can tell he absolutely played his heart out and you gotta respect that
0:01 who is that man and why does he exist
That was beautiful tho, congratz Hbox!
probably the greatest edit of a players run at a event ever. I loved the calm music with the announcers to keep the emotion of the event. so with the commentators. the editing style was perfect for this type of montages.
4 years later, and this is one of the most inspirational and historical runs of all time!
this was still emotional and climactic even though i knew the result
ever since Mango revealed that Melee was Scripted I have never seen it the same again
Yet he said Armada was supposed to win Evo
Bruh. Melee is not scripted. If everyone intentionally lost it would be obvious. I like Mango as much as the next guy but his rabid fans are pretty cancerous
same haha . it kinda felt like they had top 8 scripted
hungrybox got tired of losing went against the script and will now be suspended
it was so easy to see. as soon as it got to hbox vs mango scar seemed very sad almost as if he knew what was going to happen. armada didnt shake hbox's hand because hbox went off script like a fucker. mango and armada were supposed to be in grands. thankfully the melee back room will punish hbox for this and we will have mango armada grands to show the world truly how great this game is at the next evo.
Hbox played, better, faster, and cooler than ever. I like how he's trying to speed up his game unlike last year where he tried slowing it down. I can think of very few sets as hype as this GFs
Thank you GR. The community, the game, and the world needed this video.
Personally I consider this one of your best videos. The music combined with the fantastic work of Hungrybox and his emotional outbreak at the end is just amazing.
I love watching HBox win :3 And yes I am a HBox fan :3.
Press 3 if you felt bad for Armada.
3... I felt like I was going to cry
2:18 can anyone, who can read lips, tell me what Hbox said to Mango?
I want to know as well lol
So sorry man. From the looks of it.
Mango said: "Remember to lose to Armada in Grand Finals! We'll keep you on payroll to stick to the script."
But in defiance Hbox said: "No! I'm winning Evo! I'm going off script!"
He said " im so sorry."
"Is Wal-Mart still open?"
Hands down this is my favorite video of 2016.
I'm just happy to see that fox didnt win evo
We didn't need to see anymore furries in the top 8, so happy Jiggs and Hbox made it as champs!
Armada clapping like the losing player on the match results screen lol but good shit to everyone in top 8 at Evo
this just made puff look better than fox. gg hbox
It didn't. It just goes to show that hbox is good at getting rest setups. Puff will never be better than Fox.
+Haru I'd trust those words more if, you know, HBox's puff hadn't prevailed against the foxes he faced.
***** Hbox is undeniably good at the Fox v Puff match up. That being said, Puff will still never be better than Fox.
Whenever I'm feeling down I'm just gonna come back and watch this.
If I'm ever successful at anything, I'm probably gonna thank hungrybox and you for this video.
Seriously, This was hbox's version of a mang0 losers run.
...like it matters, people will always find the littlest thing to not give props to Hbox :/
So I am a "Hbox hater" I don't enjoy watching him play. Don't like the constant use of bairs and don't like constantly similar ways of killing. BUT I will never discredit the fact that he has skill
Hold this W bro
keep your ring
I feel so bad for mango
Melee is scripted
don't. He played awful and deserved the loss. Rarely uptilted, rarely side smashed.
don't. He played awful and deserved the loss. Rarely uptilted, rarely side smashed.
>side smashed
>fox
stfu. you dont know shit about this game.
Dude is a bum I feel bad for him too
to see someone's hard work and incredible passion finally pay off in such a spectactular fashion... now that's really something. you can feel his emotion. amazing
"Welp, Evo is done with, but because I couldn't watch all the events because I was busy, I'll just have fun checking out all the archives this week! And I'll save the best, mah Melee, for last. Man, I can't wait to check it out and see who won!"
**Sees this thumbnail in the recommendeds of a Caddicarus video**
"....siiiiiggh....
The pop-off at the end is beautiful.
Gratz to Hbox for his amazing victory!
I love the atmosphere of this video. You did a great job with this GRSMASH!
I watched this live and this recap almost made my cry. Very well put together video, great music!
I didn't know I wanted Hbox to win... But then I saw that clutch bracket reset and I got so hyped. GG Hbox, you absolutely deserve it.
Say what you want, but I love Hungrybox, and knowing how much he wanted and deserved this win, made me actually tear up when he won. The chills during those sets were insane. This video brings them back. His face is priceless after each win. It doesn't get more genuine than that.
Hbox's passion for the game never ceases to amaze.
What an incredible video for an epic story
I think this is when people changed their opinions on hbox, they respected him from the long way he went. Always the underdog until that day.
This man has so much heart. I love seeing HBox come so alive, it's really fitting for such a great game.
You can't re-emulate the feeling of seeing this all live.
Man... I've long since quit Smash to play Marvel Vs. Capcom and Street Fighter yet this still puts a wide smile on my face
I don't know why everyone feels bad for anyone. I feel good for HBox the same way HBox was happy every other year for the people who won those EVOs.
