Stephen makes a very strong argument. I've witnessed KOs in white collar boxing that left me shaken they were so brutal. My first thought was "This should not be happening at this level." The biggest reason for that is that some competitors I suspect have some formal boxing training/experience and are competing against another with very limited skills and experience. Furthermore, I also think the matchmaking is not always the best.
This is a highly responsible piece of journalism. Really important message from Stephen Castle. Boxing is not a joke and anyone who steps in the ring needs to be protected in all aspects. White Collar boxing is a great way to get the general public interested in the sport, and to give them an experience of what actual professionals go through to prepare for a fight, and the fight itself. If it’s not regulated and done responsibly, then it will be outlawed. Say goodbye to the increase fan base and sponsorship as a result. Thanks for sharing this and hope it resonates within the community
Agreed!!!!! It's disrespectful to the fighters and the coaches who work hard!!! There is no health & safety toward the fighters or protection. I saw a white collar, referee didnt even have certification, no head gear. Guys falling out the ring because ropes is not correct. Its sad and its damaging our industry.
ive been trying to establish a boxing club at the uni I train at. How could one go about having this established? it (the club) is nothing short of talent
Man if I show you videos of the last whiteC fight in bloem. No shirts no headgear and full contact and bad Knockouts. I have seen Boxers who are still professionals boxers but take a year off and take 2 whiteC fights n then come back to professional. It's crazy Something must be Done some1 is going die in the Ring
Sadly at least 3 have already died, I was down to do two events but I’ve pulled out. Even though I’m a competitive kick-boxer and karate second brown belt. Finding me a match up would be hard as I’m 44kg and 5ft. Despite my experience I was more than happy to go light as I just wanted to use my skills and make money for charity. It’s just meant to be a bit of fun but when I found out I out the event was full of wannabe Mike Tyson’s lacking the ability just swinging and bad refereeing, I was out!
