Omg thank you so much I've been talking to my husband about wanting to do this and not knowing how and I'm sitting here looking for one to teach me how to do it that's easy and I come across doors and washed it and I it was so easy thank you so much
Thanks! I've been crocheting for almost 15 years and just recently saw this on Pinterest. I make a lot of baby blankets so this will really be an incredible way to personalize each one! Thanks again!
This was such a HUGE help to me. I'm working on a blanket for my stepdad and he wants his initials on the finished piece and this stitch was so easy to do and your directions were easy to follow.
Just wanted to thank ya for posting this video. I am making a baby blanket for my photo teacher and still need to work on my crocheting so decided to just make a baby blanket with the single crochet but wanted to personalize it, this will be the perfect way to do so. So, THANKS! ☺☺☺
Will definatly try this method for sure. Trying to wreck my brain on how to put a name on a hat. Now I found an easier way to do it thanks. I hope it turns out good 😁
this is awesome..thanks so much. I had a request to put numbers/letters for a beanie…so, this works. I really wasn't sure how to do this. >…. and I LOVE your accent. I'm originally from TN/ the south…I recognize that southern twang… excellent .
Ah! Thank you! I'm gonna do lettering for a blanket & I was gonna switch back & forth with the colors (like crochet one color, cut, do other color, cut...) but this is SO much easier! i will save this for when i get to the lettering!
Thank you for uploading this video, it's a much more easy (and forgiving) solution to adding letters than trying to work them into the base. My question is, what do you do with the strings at the end of the letter lines?
You can use this method on double crochet or any other flat crocheted surface. However, I think it's easier to form the letters on a single crocheted fabric.
The slanted shell patterns looks like it would work. Try working the stitches only into the loops along the fronts of the stitches instead of through the entire fabric. Just work in the direction you need to in order to form your letters.
You can use any type of yarn, thread or floss. Keep in mind that thicker strands tend to show up better. If you want to use thinner materials... try using multiple strands and experiment to get the look you want.
I believe this method will work on any crocheted fabric. Plan ahead... (1) count the number of letters you need to add and allow spaces between words; (2) count how many stitches are in the space you plan to write in and plan accordingly.
Thank you, I have been looking for a video like this and finally found one. I have one question, how do you know how much yarn you will need per letter? I know it depends on size
huskergirl1980 You're welcome. These letters shouldn't take very much yarn at all. Letter size, as well as how many letters you need to make, will definitely be a factor in determining how much yarn you will need. Sorry, but there's no way for me to determine each person's individual yarn amounts.
Ends are weaved in as with any crochet project... working/sewing the yarn ends back into the same color stitches. You can weave in the ends using your crochet hook or a yarn needle.
+Erica Hamilton Since this is a "freeform" style of crochet, everyone will make their letters differently. A fairly simple way to add the letter "R" would be to make a stencil. Pin the stencil in the position where you want the letter and crochet inside the stencil as I did on the video.

Amber Tilton You're very welcome.
Thank you so much!!! Could you please post a video as to how to do it? I'm a visual learner. It's pretty much how I learned to crochet.
I'm british, and I love your accent!
This has helped me so much! Thank you!
You're very welcome.
This is such a great tutorial and I can't wait to try it! Thanks for posting!
You're very welcome. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!
Yes, you could use a half double crochet... I just tried it.
The writing is more raised and thicker/wider.
Thank you.. i just want to ask about it💞
This video is just amazing. Your helpings get an A on my project!!! Thank you
You're very welcome. Feel free to share a photo of your project... you can post it to our Facebook page or email it to me... lisacro@kih.net

You're welcome. Work or sew the yarn ends back into the same color stitches. I weave them throughout the letters using a yarn needle.
Echo von Echo i was gonna work mine into my base but this is so much easier!
Amber Tilton Hope you enjoy this method!
Thank you so much for this!! It’s exactly what I needed! :D
I really appreciate your help please continue.

+camron meads You're very welcome.
Thank you for your video. I'm going to try this with STARS and HEART shapes!
+Adgurl Oone You're very welcome.
Thanks, that is great. Now I have three ways to add letters. I just chose the best method for the project.
Thanks, you made this so easy for me!
That's great thanks so much for sharing. I have 15 names to do on Christmas stockings should be easy to do!
You're very welcome.
AMAZING!! exactly what I needed.
Thank you so much! I love it! 😊😊😊
Thanks for actually TEACHING it and SHOWING 😉
You're very welcome.
thank you for the video, it's very useful. How about crocheting curve? I want to crochet a letter "A" & "J"
Great tutorial
Can this be done on a double crochet project ?

It works well on a single crochet fabric... if the afghan is solid (no holes) you may be able to incorporate this method.
Thank you! This is a great tutorial, it helped me a lot!😊
You're very welcome... Glad you enjoyed it.
Would this method work on a slanted shell stitch blanket? How would I go about doing T's
i agree with jean roeth do you have a video of the rest of the alphabet A - Z it would be a very helpful. thanks norma thornton
Sorry, I do not have videos for each of the alphabet at this time. I will add that to my list of future video ideas... thank you.
nice do you have a lefthanded video
can you go at angles too. for example the letter A. will it look like the A that i just typed, or will it look like a block letter A?
Could you do this on Half Double Crochet too?
Keep practicing.. you will get better at it.
lovely!
You're very welcome.
Ok thank you..I will try that
+Erica Hamilton You're welcome.
do you have a video on the rest of the alphabet? i'm trying to make a "b" and i'm having a problem with the curves?
No, this method is a "free hand" type of crochet. Letters will vary from one crocheter to another.
I love your southern accent
Thanks :o)
I know this was made a while ago, but could you make a video on how to add a lower case t?
@BJ7481 You're very welcome.
Can you use floss thread to do letters.
You can use any type of yarn, thread or floss. Keep in mind that thicker strands tend to show up better. If you want to use thinner materials... try using multiple strands and experiment to get the look you want.
Ok. Going to try a swatch today.

This is very helpful thanks
could this work on the double crochet blanket I am making? I want to add a phrase. Cross stitching it seems too messy.
I believe this method will work on any crocheted fabric. Plan ahead... (1) count the number of letters you need to add and allow spaces between words; (2) count how many stitches are in the space you plan to write in and plan accordingly.
Okay. Thank you so much! Appreciate it :)
So did you make this blanket by doing a single crochet? And what if you wanted to make the letters thicker?
Yes... you could use multiple strands of yarn to make thicker letters.
can you do this in a double crochet blanket?
This method should work on any solid crochet fabric.
Just work in the direction to form the letter. Any letter or shape can be made.
Thank you this really helped
You're welcome.
Thanks for sharing! could this work on double crochet or does it need to be single crochet?
You're very welcome.
I believe you could use this technique on any solid crochet fabric but I feel the single crochet fabric works best.
Lisa
crochetnmore I am a double crochet blanket, Does this video apply to that also ?
You're welcome.
I'm going to practise this it's basically a foundation chain isn't it?
It is worked the same as a foundation chain... you just insert the hook into the fabric each time as you make each chain.

+Angela.maria Miranda Thank you!

thus really helped me thank you
this
You're welcome.
Love your accent
Jade Jenkins Thank you.
Problem I'm having is how to secure the end of the work. None of the videos show how to do that.
I love that accent! Will this method work on DC and hdc as well?
Thanks. This method would work on any solid crochet fabric.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Thank you!!!
You're very welcome.
Thank u very much!
Good video, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't show how to finish it, i.e. Show us how to handle the ends. . .
Ends are weaved in as with any crochet project... working/sewing the yarn ends back into the same color stitches.
You can weave in the ends using your crochet hook or a yarn needle.
Not T's, but G's & B's? Or lower case letters?
Can you help me make an R plz
+Erica Hamilton Since this is a "freeform" style of crochet, everyone will make their letters differently. A fairly simple way to add the letter "R" would be to make a stencil. Pin the stencil in the position where you want the letter and crochet inside the stencil as I did on the video.
It's the slanted shell pattern
Thank uuuuu!!!!
Thank you. :o)
great video!! but my first letter is horrible is an I so sad :(,, but thanks anyway
