I hate this chord I really struggle with barring 2 or more strings - I'm left handed and would have thought it would be easier but no such luck. Thanks so much for the tips - I will keep on trying
My first finger is short on the 1st joint and my middle finger on the C string is wide (so muffles the A string) and if I roll it to its tip on the C, the tip of it my first finger can’t hold down the A/E bar as tightly, so then they mute. But if my middle finger is on the tip, I can reach the third fret on the G okay. So it’s a teeter totter on those first two fingers. Then my thumb is almost behind the a/e and I push my elbow out but strains my wrist. I don’t have a callus on my first finger and it won’t roll over like you show. Maybe this chord takes a long time to be strong enough in my hand and wrist with short fingers. I don’t know. But thanks for the step by step.
Hi Katie. :) I bought fluorocarbons for my tenor because the same type of strings are on my Enya Nova and they are easier to play. I have been practising AED chord transition patterns, E chords have been my nemesis. I prefer to play E without barring, by using the 1/2/4 frets on three strings. Brian May has been doing a lot of little isolation guitar videos lately, much to everyone’s happiness. My tenor has a through body bridge... not sure your video covered that type (?) Take care and stay healthy :):)❤️
I know what you mean about the E chord. Whenever I teach my students the E chord in my large group classes, I hear a couple of expletives 😂. I did make a video about how to play E 5 different ways, so let me n ow if you’d like to to link it for you. I didn’t know Brian was making isolation videos!!!! Oh my gosh! I need to see those 😀. We’re doing well. We’re not going anywhere and we don’t plan to. I hope things are well with you.
One Music School I’ll see if I can find that E chord video. :) I find the way I am currently playing it is a good stretch for the fingers but not too bad, especially on a concert scale ukulele. I play it on the second section ( chord change ) to Why Did It Have To Be Me... a fun ABBA song. Yes, Check out Brian May’s UA-cam channel ... he is as humble as he is talented. :) Kind of like you, actually. :)

Was hoping to get my colleague’s grade 4/5 class playing their ukuleles while our school choir sings to the rest of the school. Would be a perfect song for these times.👍🏻❤️
Hey @onemusicschool, I was thinking about getting a ukelele... do you have a specific brand or one that I could get that’s not too expensive but not too cheap. THANK YOU!!! 😊❤️
Such a great question. It truly is a buyers market, so you will have lots to choose from that won’t break the bank. I have a couple of videos that might help. One is a buyers guide for beginners and the other is how to upgrade. The upgrade video you might find interesting to find out why some ukes are more expensive than others. Not that you’d be looking for a uke that’s $500, but it might be insightful or find it interesting. Grab a snack. They’re a bit long 😂😂.
The buyers guides contain sound samples of over 30 ukes from a variety different brands that range from $80 and beyond. I hope it helps you find the tone that you prefer as well.
Yes, absolutely. Some of my guitar students have a hard time with the F chord as well, and it’s always good to beak it down. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
Thanks, Katie! Do you have any advise on property holding the ukulele? I have both a soprano and concert size and they both feel like they could jump out of my arms at any given moment if I’m not wearing a strap (which is uncomfortable and hurts my neck). Thanks! 💙
Thank you for this. I'm a new beginner (1 month of practising almost daily), and you mentioned the strings. I had heard about putting Low G strings on; wondering if you know that would be a good idea. I have a very low singing voice and maybe it would sound "deeper" and sound nice together? I have a Concert size. Much thanks for any advice.
I love teaching that song to my students. I just had a baby last week, so I don’t know when I’ll find time to film again. It may be a while, but I have been getting requests for it. Thanks for wand for leaving a request.
One Music School I am trying to teach myself how to play... and these videos are really helping me.. thanks for making Christian tutorials! Also, can you sometime, make a video on how to strum and sing at the same time? Thx so much
You are showing that we don't have to keep the thumb on the back of the neck! And as for chords like D, I run out of room using the first 3 fingers, I can use the M, R,and pinky, or the M on on the 4th and 3rd and R on the 2nd, which would you suggest? Thanks. Ted.
Hi! Thanks for watching. I think you may find this video helpful. I made a video about how to find some difficult chords on the ukulele fretboard, and I’ll link it below. ua-cam.com/video/9k1t4N3UuSc/v-deo.html
Bb and E are two of my least favourite chords. I like the Bb variant that uses the "G" shape. If the Bb is coming after a G as I am already there. I just have to move it up to the 5th fret depending on the song.
When I play the 3rd and 4th string alone it sounds great. As soon as the third finger comes in, the bottom two strings sound mute again. I've put more/less pressure on and nothing solves it. Placement on the fret is good. Do you please have a suggestion for this?
Good question. Try to move your finger closer to the fret or move your thumb closer to the center of the neck to make more a clamp. I'll link a video about the "push pull motion" and "squeezing too hard" and see if that helps.
I still can't do it cuz of my thumb While i hold the neck of the ukulele my thumb bends weirdly and hurts when i try to do Bb cuz of the pressure i have to put it. When i only do the two strings its fine but i put it all together and add the other fingers? Im in pain.
Hmmmm. That’s a tough one because I physically can’t see how you’re holding your instrument to help you tweak things here and there. I would try the push/pull motion to take the pressure off of your fingers more and use your larger muscles and try to move your fingers as close to the frets as possible. If you find yourself playing and you hear muffled strings, try to figure out which string it is exactly and make small adjustments from there. You have to lift a part of your finger out of the way or move a finger closer to the fret. Another way to work on the Bb in the meantime without the barre is to place your fingers in the normal Bb position but lightly touch the A string with the pad of your index finger. That will mute the string, and you’ll be playing X123 instead of 1123. It still forms the Bb triad, but it just doesn’t have the A string Bb note. I hope that helps. You can do it! I believe in you!
Bb can be frustrating, and you’re not alone. I hear so many of my subscribers, in person students, and online students how frustrating the Bb is for them. Keep focusing on progress and not perfection, and celebrate every little win. You can do this!
Actually, that's how people usually pronounce ukelele. My music teacher himself pronounces it that way. He thought us about the history of the ukelele and how it was originally pronounced as which is how she pronounces ukelele.
Nope, not at all. That’s actually a great way to practice movable barre chords. A lot of my beginner students to are intimidated by barring, so I don’t introduce barring I’m the entire fret until I tech them the Bm chord. The closer you are to the nut, the more string tension there is 😀.
I still can't do it because as soon as I've barred those strings, when I go to press the other strings my fingers which barr the chords slip and I can't press them down because they turn at an angle until the slide off That makes no sense but yh 😔
Don’t give up. I know you can do it. Sometimes, these things take time. Barre chords can be really frustrating at first, but just focus on your progress and not perfection. Keep trying, keep playing, and keep growing. It’s ok if it doesn’t come easily. For most people, this chord doesn’t come easily, so you’re not alone.
Bendición me encanta gracias guapísima eres súper linda temazo genial ukulele eres la mejor VOZ genial amiga temazo genial está muy guapa Dios te bendiga
So I have fat fingers I will admit and my last string is always mutated for some reason and every time I try I press to hard and get blisters. My fringes where bleeding at one point, thank you for the alternative god bless
As soon as I barr the two strings with my index, the other fingers go flat down as well and muffle the strings below. Thanks for your advices but here's my limit. Arthrosis doesn't help much either....
I am baffled at how easy you made this. I no longer want to burn my ukulele. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
I still want to smash it into the wall.... And pamper my poor tortured fingers after multiple attempts.
If I knew how to replace strings I would file down the nut a little...

How do you play the key of F# B F# C# and Ebm
Bb and E are two of my least favourite chords. I like the Bb variant that uses the "G" shape. If the Bb is coming after a G as I am already there. I just have to move it up to the 5th fret depending on the song.
Glad this helped and it was good to see you in the comments today 😀.
@@OneMusicSchool Thank you. Happy Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Passover. 😀
When I play the 3rd and 4th string alone it sounds great. As soon as the third finger comes in, the bottom two strings sound mute again. I've put more/less pressure on and nothing solves it. Placement on the fret is good. Do you please have a suggestion for this?
What do you do when the A string is buzzing whenever you strum a Bb chord?
Good question. Try to move your finger closer to the fret or move your thumb closer to the center of the neck to make more a clamp. I'll link a video about the "push pull motion" and "squeezing too hard" and see if that helps.

does it work for left hand users like me?
I still can't do it cuz of my thumb
While i hold the neck of the ukulele my thumb bends weirdly and hurts when i try to do Bb cuz of the pressure i have to put it.
@@OneMusicSchool thank you for the advice!! I’ll try again and see if its better :D
Bb can be frustrating, and you’re not alone. I hear so many of my subscribers, in person students, and online students how frustrating the Bb is for them. Keep focusing on progress and not perfection, and celebrate every little win. You can do this!
@@OneMusicSchool You’re so nice helping people out like this.. i’ll deffinetly check out more of your content!!
I like the way she says ukulele LOL😂😂
Actually, that's how people usually pronounce ukelele. My music teacher himself pronounces it that way. He thought us about the history of the ukelele and how it was originally pronounced as which is how she pronounces ukelele.
This really helped thanks
So happy that this helped 😀.
Gracias bonita eres una bendición guapísima temazo Saludos desde Marbella España Málaga me encanta tú vidios eres una bendición genial
Hi I know some players (including myself) just barre the whole fret instead of just barring the 2 strings? Is it a bad habit?
Nope, not at all. That’s actually a great way to practice movable barre chords. A lot of my beginner students to are intimidated by barring, so I don’t introduce barring I’m the entire fret until I tech them the Bm chord. The closer you are to the nut, the more string tension there is 😀.
@@OneMusicSchool Oh ok thanks!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you my
So we can mute the 4th string and still get the same sound?
Sí
I still can't do it because as soon as I've barred those strings, when I go to press the other strings my fingers which barr the chords slip and I can't press them down because they turn at an angle until the slide off
That makes no sense but yh 😔
Don’t give up. I know you can do it. Sometimes, these things take time. Barre chords can be really frustrating at first, but just focus on your progress and not perfection. Keep trying, keep playing, and keep growing. It’s ok if it doesn’t come easily. For most people, this chord doesn’t come easily, so you’re not alone.
@@OneMusicSchool awhh🥺🥺
Thank you so much
I'm going to keep trying!! 🥺💛

Wow u r awesome
As soon as I barr the two strings with my index, the other fingers go flat down as well and muffle the strings below.
Thanks for your advices but here's my limit. Arthrosis doesn't help much either....
