I get just as irritated at people saying not everyone speaks/understands English or the notices should be pictorial. How many people grab the reins only for them to be jerked out of their hands by the guard which I would think is making it perfectly clear yet they go back for another try at touching the reins. Nothing to do with not speaking English or not enough clear notices. Just stupid and ignorant people.
It seems to have become a bad habit now.

I love how the guard moves the horse backwards, kicking the water bottle further into the box. He knew if he didnt some fool would get in between horses legs to pick it up, yet the idiots still tried to retrieve it.

Husband was obviously more than happy for his wife to retrieve the bottle......he's not stupid.

These tourists are so lucky. They have the privilege to be the first humans to touch this newly discovered animal species, scientists have called it “Horse” I think. One Day I’ll buy me a ticket to London just to take a photo and maybe touch it. I can’t wait.
Why on earth would anyone want to retrieve something that’s been laying in horse poop or any kind of poop? Never mind that you can clean it the fact of the matter is why would you want to pick it up and handle that?
The only sane reason is to stop the horse from spooking if it steps on it or kicks it.

I once saw an Asian woman bend down to retrieve a bottle from under the horses' hooves. A kind but very dangerous (to her) act. I think the guard was correct to yell at her. Edit : this is a repeated extract! Same woman!
Kind? How is that kind? She could have been killed, the horse could have been injured, and the guard could have been seriously hurt. That was a stupid act! I haven't been around horses much but I know that a horse weighs a heck of a lot and can easily hurt somebody. The bottle is plastic and isn't even full!

Well done to all the guards that shouted. That man knew he shouldn't touch the reins but still did what a D head. Why did he think it didn't apply to him? then that utter idiot standing in the way of the horse getting ready to go in. Are these people from another planet, lost their marbles or are they just plain thick. Easily fixed don't allow them the freedom to be near the horses, they should have a permanent full barrier no spaces except to allow the police horses though I think most cars go in the back way , Also the visits should be ticket only and only one side gate open they would be able to witness the horses going in , changing of the ground sentries, then they exit through the back way. This should have been sorted out years ago a one way system for tourists would have stopped the need for herding people behind bollard and stop the holding of the reins and mauling of those poor horses. Perhaps not as entertaining for videos but at least these hardworking men , women and horses would be able to do their jobs properly and the horses would not be in an anxious state all the time either .

@annbeirne0583 . As has been stated many many times any form of barrier is not possible , they are on a public footpath in Whitehall under control of Westminster council not MOD . The bollards are there for security reasons to restrict access to unauthorised vehicles in case any suspected terrorism . The bollards are used during changing of the guards for the publics safety . Through the courtyard is the Household Cavalry Museum and Horseguards Parade leading to St James and Buckingham Palace , that is MOD property . Also any form of barrier would be potentially dangerous for both horse and Trooper if the horse became unsettled and ran forward .

Is a water bottle worth being stomped on by a huge, iron shod horse? Attempting to crawl under a horse has to be certifiable. If a horse rears it has to come back down again at some point. Not too smart to be in the way when it does.
You can replace a water bottle - replacement body parts are a bit more difficult to come by.
That could have been a glass bottle what damage could that do to the horses feet

It beggars belief that someone would walk up to a large horse holding a baby or very small child in their arms. Horses by nature can be very unpredictable. If it shook its head, like they often do, The child could be knocked out of its parents arms with devastating results.
